    Part of the reason a lot of depression glass is gone - TONS of it was made - is that to people of the time, it represented being poor. My mother used to talk about how ashamed she was when people came to her house to eat and all they had was pink depression they got from the movies and in detergent and flour packages. She couldn't wait to be able to afford real dishes and then throw away all the depression glass, which I imagine they did with extreme prejudice. She always hated it!

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  2 роки тому +10

      Interesting! At the time, it was the current thing and was quite the rage, IF you could afford the serving pieces. The folks who just got the premiums felt more like your mom

    • @persiphonehellecat
      @persiphonehellecat Рік тому

      I totally get it. Actually it was my grandmother who taught me about it when I bught my first box full. Most people didn't have the fancy stuff - just the stuff they got at movie theatres and in soap and flour packages. It represents bad times - hard times - to many people. @@Moekristie

  • @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS
    @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS 2 роки тому +3

    Good evening, George! That Gerado piece was fantastic. It would be able to stand alone as a statue. I would buy and use the Wagner Gem pan. I'm loving the 1850s iron kettle I got from you! There have been a lot of compliments on it, too. I like wall pockets, but I'm extremely picky with them. The Weller one did suit me. Wasn't that cup next to the early English, no-handle cup a shaving mug? Mustache cups have an opening for the liquid to pass through. Shaving mugs have the "cradle" for the shaving brush, with the holes for the soap to drip through. That girandole would've come home with me! That seemed a really good price for that piece. I have a "Cherry Blossom" beverage set in the pink. That's a nice pattern. Purple Pig is a super-nice shop!!! Fantastic that you found it open!!! Thanks for the take-along!!!

    • @TheAntiqueNomad
      @TheAntiqueNomad  2 роки тому +2

      I am so glad the kettle is getting noticed! I really loved the Gerado piece, we have one in my family. I think you're right about the shaving mug as opposed to a mustache cup, I'll have to do a comparison sometime to show the difference to everyone. The girandole was cheap I thought! Thank you for coming along!

    • @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS
      @CONSTELLATION_PEGASUS 2 роки тому +1

      @@TheAntiqueNomad The kettle is on the table in the kitchen, and it does get noticed and complimented a lot. I have a left-handed mustache cup and saucer, and I have an R S Prussia shaving mug, with the perforated cradle. I've seen people get the two confused, so a comparison of the two, showing the differences, would be helpful to people. Oh, that girandole was at a "you can't leave me" price. Even with no more space to put anything, it would've come home with me.
