- I took a trip to Italy and compared Hitman to some very similar looking places in the Cinque-Terre region, and almost certainly NOT to look at all the disgusting statues they have out there.

Fun fact: just under the golf ball in Sapienza theres a hidden mine bugged underground and if you shoot it just the right way it explodes! Killing one of the characters you need to assassinate.
That actually isn't a bug! It's a trigger for when you use the explosive golf ball found in the safe room in order to detonate!

reminds me of the story of cs_italy where the original map makers were asked wether they were inspired by a specific city and people went to look for real lifes places. but one of the makers said: "it was just from the american point of view." so completely out of imagination, what an italian city could look like

When I was there in real life at that church, there was a freak wave that wiped out 20 people on the pier sending them into the water, one person had to be driven off in an ambulance.
Your final sentence about the mountains carries a really strange, melancholic and almost depressing undertone. It's great.

Sapienza is an amazing level. One of the things that I think sets it apart from a lot of the other (still very good) labyrinthian levels is that it manages to be both confusing and directed at the same time. All the narrow, winding streets and stacked terraces create the impression of a labyrinth and can confusing the first time you're exploring them, but the way the whole level slopes towards the sea means that you quickly become able to orient yourself, long before you've played the level enough to start memorizing all the little landmarks. Compare that to something like Mumbai, which also deliberately creates the impression of a labyrinth but doesn't give you the same easy way to orientate yourself. Still a good level, but not as smooth to get used to or fall in love with.
This is one of the funniest commentaries you made so far and most informative! I love videos that made me choke my drink a bit. Keep at it !!

the tiny streets, underground tunnels & ruins remind me of a town near where I live. It's more medival than antique and not in Italy, the church is bigger than ingame, but there is a spooky bone chamber
A friend of mine's family lives in a mansion there that is maybe a bit smaller than the Caruso mansion. only they make wine underground and not viruses

I love Hitman and Sapienza is my happy place. Everything in this video is great except the way he pronounces Cinque Terre, which is kind of criminal.
Fun fact (and I'm just sharing a fact i think other people will find interesting here, no negativity, love the video ok bye): Sapienza is my least favorite level of hitman 1. And I'm thinking, maybe it's because I'm mediteranean and already way too used to that style of houses and streets that it doesn't feel like an exploration at all?
In my opinion this level was set on the "costiera amalfitana" location in italy near Naples, like Poistano, go look for yourself the drone view of that place, it's stunning how it's similar to that place
