Just a heads up. I should have mentioned it in my video. I tested using max fans because I noticed that more power went to the GPU compared to auto fan, with negligible increase in thermals.
@@azorelnero5568 it performs great in both. The CPU maintains a good boost clock, even better when undervolted. The best I have seen for an 8750h. The GPU runs cool and fast. With max fans it allows it to use upto 101w and perform close to the regular 2070 or 2080 max Q.
Great video! It's actually one of the videos that helped me lean into my purchase of the y740. I will say that I just picked one up in March of 2020 and I got a unit that had practically NO backlight bleed, only a very small cloud in the lower mid right, and it really only becomes visible when you have the brightness turned up past 80 percent or so, so that definitely varies from unit to unit. I love this computer and I'm so glad I picked it up over the Dell, which I have heard so many negative things about.
The g7 is good for a foot warmer if your rich you can buy it just for that.put it under a heavyload, block the heat intake vents and there you go.nice 100 degree foot warmer for cold nights.
hi, is the screen color, Brightness and the build quality good? I was hoping to get one. But reviews only said the screen is bad and the build quality is bad.
@@SamrattVerma I bought Dell G7 17 7790 and and the build quality is quite good. It does not flex, no crackling sounds at all. However I got the wrong version with just 60hrz panel which is quite bad with backlight bleed in the bottom corners of the screen. I am about to exchange this model to the one with 144hrz panel (covered by warranty) that is better according to reviews, however it may warry. Regarding heat, I noticed that on turbo boost it throttles at around 90C on max setting in DOOM eternal, but it does not effect gaming. At least in my case. I did undervolting to minus 115.2 in throttlestop app and it works well, but this is something to keep in mind. Other that that, it works quiet and cool enough (around 40C- sometimes 50C I believe, per info from throttlestop app) when working with chrome, blender, watching 4k movies. I hope this helps. Additionally I was thinking about Lenovo Y740.
Great, comprehensive review. I’ve been loving my Y740. The power brick is identical in size to the Alienware I was using previously so I’m quite used to the size now but it‘d be perfect if it was more compact
Thanks! I know what you mean. I am so used to carting my 330w brick and 10 lbs Clevo than anything feels light weight by comparison, lol. Thanks for watching my video 😀
Just got the y540 with an i7-9750H and RTX 2060(Mobile). Similar experience with the cooling. Even out of the box performance is solid and it never gets uncomfortable to touch. Highly recommend.
Excellent video comparison and review! Very informative. I have a question in regards to the longevity of the Y740. Firstly, I apologize for my English as it isn't my first language. The Y740 is perfect to me in almost every way (I want to use it with my Wacom Cintiq 16 and occasional gaming) but, a lot of people have valid concerns about the heat issue it has and they worry if that will cause bigger problems with the laptop's lifespan, and I share that worry. I need a laptop that can last at least 5 years as I unfortunately cannot afford to buy another one so soon if this laptop breaks. So longevity is important to me. However, I've also seen people complain about other laptops and how they break after a year of usage due to the unmanageable heat and then say that the Legion Y740 is much more preferred... despite the latter also having heat issues. Does this mean that Y740 heat issues aren't as bad as with others laptops and that it could possibly have a better lifespan down the road? I admit I'm not that tech savvy haha, so I hope this question wasn't taxing to read. Thank you in advance, hope you have a good week!
Interesting that you mention that because Lisa's videos actually persuaded me to start my channel. She was the first person I subscribed too. I will be doing a collab with her soon.
Unfortunately, my G7 died just over a year used. I missed it, but it did got very hot, fan was loud we playing demanding games. The power went out on mines I thinks it have something to do with the motherboard because I tried everything to fix it. I wouldn't recommend it because how hot it gets and dell is known for having overheating gaming laptop such as the xps ones. Get the Lenovo instead, a pricey lesson I had to learn. Keep up the good work.
Unfortunately it looks like Dell still hasn't figured out how to apply thermal paste from the factory. Seem's to be a consistent issue especially on the Alienware models. A shame because the cooling hardware looks better than the Lenovo's. Great review as always!
My G7 seems to have had a proficient person apply the paste. .125 on the undervolt and throttle be gone (although it only happened on stress tests). However, I do have a tube of Grizzly on hand....
I got my Y740 2070 Max-Q a couple weeks ago and love it. Excellent design and build quality, cooling, and performance, pretty thin and light and at one of the best prices for the hardware it has. I have an 8 year old Lenovo Y470P (550m) I'm typing this on that's still going strong. It runs pretty much 24/7 hooked up to my TV as my streaming/entertainment device.
It won't survive a mite(Bug) and the sound is really weak...Ray tracing don't work... But if you like it the it fine.... I still rocking my old rog zephyrus... waiting for better one... that ray tracing don't make the game to lag..
A clear example of how shared heatpipes will ruin the thermal performance despite more heatpipes I believe that the Y740 has a hidden BIOS that includes advanced power settings
@@OWNORDISOWN once entered BIOS, press the following accordingly: 1. Fn+Tab (+ sign means press at the same time) 2. Fn+ASDFGH 3. Fn+O Then press F10, press yes. The system will reboot to advanced BIOS. Not sure whether it will work in Y740 but it works in Y530 (I believe they both uses insyde BIOS)
Hey there Martin ! Yes, its a great laptop. If I could make any changes it would be to get a second m.2 slot instead of the 2.5" bay and have a larger battery, plus have the webcam at the top.
Unfortunately, had a very bad experience with a Legion that was custom manufactured in China. Screen was replaced and there's faulty wiring or something else going on - SO SAD SINCE IT WAS UNDER $1300, So I just decided to spend more money on the G7, hoping I'll have no technical issues.
Love what you do here on this channel. Not much of a gamer (more 4K video editing+music editing+Plex serving on my systems) but I often buy tech with features and capabilities I don't always end up using later on (and it's the plan from the gitgo). Better to have and not use (within reason). So, quick Q: spending $1K-$1.3K seems a sweet spot in 11/2019. Go Y545, Y740 or GE75 (both with 1660 ti or 2060 & 9750H)? Thanks! (and yes, I did post this to BOAT, too)
Great to see you cover the lenovo y740! Looking for the review of the more budget friendly y540 with numpad 😉 One nitpick with your review - as an editor I noticed a couple of black frames in your video. Watch out for them and keep on doing a great job!
Thanks ! Yes, the Y540 looks like a great one to review. I am going to ask them for one. Thanks also for the pointer on the editing. I'll make sure to keep an eye out for them !
i just bought this laptop on ebay for $1200 arriving in 3 days tho its th 1660ti version your comment make me feel at peace and im so excited about it..
Couple of other things on the G7 17 inch models that buyers should be aware of. (mine is the 7790 with the 8750h) 1) The spacebar is a bit lazy. You need to select it closer to the middle or it won't register. Now, this is probably due to my being used to a mechanical keyboard, so it's a training issue. Thought my spacebar was broke at first! 2) The new Dell design, with the aft lip extending past the display. This added depth creates a real PITA finding a TSA approved laptop backpack to accommodate it. I managed to locate a Swiss one from Amazon (barely fits). One could probably buy the rectangular box looking types, but it more looks like you're a starship trooper radio man on patrol ! Plus it's a dead giveaway you're carrying an expensive lappy! But a question for you. Mine of course came with single channel memory. Dell has a part number for an additional model albeit a horribly expensive price. Amazon has the part number, 1 Module for Dell, the other for Alienware. Both with the exact same part number but 2 totally different prices. My theory is that they have the huge markup due to their price on their site, and that the alienware module would pair nicely with my dell module. Thoughts?
Yep on the spacebar I thought mine was broken too, I actually had a Dell tech reach out to me on Reddit wanting to assist but as I tested the spacebar more I just realized I think it's just built crappy as it works fine in mid sections just left or right too far and you have to hit it harder so don't think they could fix it with a support ticket. I also had bought a 2nd 16GB stick to put into mine before I even had the laptop in hand, not sure why they and seemingly many other vendors are selling these with single sticks when it's so detrimental to performance. *edit - crap they put the new 9th gen CPUs in them now, and they come with dual channel ram, and Ebates is giving 15% cashback on them today, omfg I'm so fuming now. My return period just expired too like last week, grrrrrrr!!!!!
@@DarkOneXOfficial Yeah. I thought also ROFL. I got big hands so pretty much all lappys I have to train myself. As with memory, I discovered Samsung manufactured it with a part number, so I went and ordered one. Dell just wants way too much to put a Dell sticker on it. In the old days Dells memory had an extra chip which meant you could only use Dell memory! (no comment)
@@DarkOneXOfficial Yeah, same thing here. I ordered from overseas and when I arrived back they had already changed it to 9th Gen. They don't even sell our model anymore, and it was just released 3 months ago!!! Thanks Dell. But here's how Dell does pricing. They offer 10%, 15% and specials all the time. The catch is that one is always going to pay the same price regardless of the "special". They muck with the base price just before they give the special. But hey, I'm extremely pleased with mine as it does everything I want.
Hey buddy I wanted to let you know I ended up buying a Y740 because of this video. I ended up with the 17 inch 2070 9750 variant. So far things have been great, I lucked out and got a great monitor with very little bleed and temps have been wonderful Also one of the most silent laptops I've had. Thanks to all the forums and advice I made sure I didn't upgrade my bios so I could take advantage of the max fans. After all the discounts and ebates it ended up about 1550 for everything. Great imo for the price I'm quite happy. Thanks for these videos! You do a fantastic job at giving people an idea of what they can expect. Cheers and have a great day!
You should have pointed out that the Y740 17" has a 76Wh battery, while the 15" model has the smaller one, although I do not know if the battery life is any better considering it's likely meant to compensate for the larger screen. However, customer service has confirmed that the batteries are interchangeable despite the size difference; you can buy a battery by itself and install the larger one from the 17" into the 15".
Thanks for the review. Thinking of getting the maxed out G7 over the m15 R2. The design choices for RAM not soldered on, WiFi not soldered on, ports on the back, larger battery option, number pad keys, and the G7 now has similar specs options as the m15 R2 and seems like the way to go. Thoughts and thanks.
I really like the laptop but I hate the bottom part.but I’m still buying it.i don’t care.is too much power for the price.i can get work done like video editing, gaming, develop games on Godot, blender and music creation, all that power on the go.great video.
Well, I wanted to take the Y740, but I decided to go for the Y540 instead, which will be released at the end of may if I'm not mistaken. I'm not sure for the webcam on top of the screen however it's confirmed it will have the latest Intel 9th gen and a numeric keypad. I hope that it will be as thermal efficient as the Y740 despite the lack of the aluminium chassis. Thanks for the "VS" test BTW, I was waiting for this one to confirm my choices.
@@morethanplanet Lenovo have now removed the max fan option. The GPU still boosts using 90w so that will help in frame rates but it needs some tweaking to keep cool . I like that you have Gsync which the G7 doesnt have.
Just a heads up, many G5 and G7 models can now be configured with GSync-enabled panels as well. It MUST explicitly state "GSYNC" in the panel name-- the 144hz panel alone doesn't have GSync. It has to say GSYNC.
Thanks for the heads up. When they first launched the G5 and G7 they we're $1800 and $2200 respectively, and at that price the G5 only had a 60hz panel and no RGB keyboard. I bought both. Thank God for competition as that is what made Dell lower their prices and add features to match others.

Hi Stephen! As far as I see, at least on our market (Russia), Y740 is the only notebook model which you can choose with i5 8300 and RTX 2070. It would be interesting to see if a weaker CPU (than i7 8750) can destroy the benefit in the performance of the powerful GPU and if such a combo (obviously cheaper) makes sense. Do you plan to test some i5 8300/RTX machines?

Great review! I actually went with the alienware 17r5 with the 1070 and 8750h. Got it for 1200 open box (like new). Very happy with it except the hybrid battery functionality which causes it to drain while gaming. I guess I'll be having to get the 330watt power brick!
It’s a good laptop. I got the 15 r4 with 2070 literally brand new for £900. Sold it for £1250 2 months later. Was never meant to buy one as I was planning on the y740. But because i I DID want one before, the price was too good to skip and I had no laptop.
@@OWNORDISOWN Thanks...I was tempted to purchase the Area51m with the 2060 but when I saw the deal on the R5 I couldn't pass it up. I already have the amplifier and I know that the 8750h wont bottleneck me anytime soon. I'll wait until the next update for the area51m then maybe pull the trigger. Hopefully they add desktop ram instead of laptop ram next time.
GGs you bought yours either missing the sale or you were an early adopter. The prices was far cheaper than this in USA for about $1500 for a 2070 version. The 2060 was as low as $1280. I got mine for £1580 coming down from £2000+ because I waited for a sale and it was 15% and I ordered with out OS saving more money. Only thing is it took 2 months to arrive.
At 07:41 I show my settings. The only other things I did was undervolt the cache by 130 mv and set the turbo time limit to 96. I did experiment with undervolting the GPU but it had negligable effect on the CPU temperature. The GPU was running really cool already. Setting the GPU clock rate at 1515 MHz got rid of the power Throttle but performance was the same.
I guess it depends in which country you're in. Here in Germany for example the 17 inch y740 start at 1999€ and 15 inch at 1699€. Dell is a bit cheaper then and they just did a sale.
How much did you undervolt the cpu by and overclock the GPU Memory and Cores by? Also in my y740 I’m unable to max out fan speeds with the keyboard shortcut. Thanks for the fantastic video!
Very nice review. You made it pretty clear on how much more powerful the lenovo laptop was compared to the g7. I do prefer lenovos design but I really wish it had a bigger battery. I understand that it's cheaper to have a hard drive but I would still be willing to pay more for a bigger battery and bigger nvme m.2 ssd storage, I'm sure others feel the same way. Hopefully they move the camera back up too. This really shows the consequences of manufacturers making thin and light laptops. Laptops like the legion outperform something like the razer blade 15 for a much cheaper price. Its only a matter of time that companies like lenovo start to catch up
The CPU and PU can take quite a bit of heat- the GOU will throttle down at 87 degrees anyway. The CPU is supposed to be OK for about 105 Deg C but I don't think anyone has done a long term test. Personally I like to keep things below 90, ensure there is no throttling. The odd spike here or there is fine. The fans will only have so many revolutions in them but I have had laptops that have been on every day for at least 5 years and they kept chugging along. Its going to take some serious gaming sessions to burn out a fan I suspect...
The G-sync really helps to increase the performance of the RTX GPU by 8-10% as it bypasses the Intel integrated GPU and projects directly onto the screen. I am not sure why there are a lot of manufacturers that they do not have G-sync on their $2000 gaming laptop. As such the performance of the RTX GPU is being compromised. In this video you can see clearly that a 100% G-sync RTX2070 maxq can match a 90% non-G-sync RTX2080 maxq.
@@OWNORDISOWN From what I have read online. G-sync in laptop requires some additional hardware modules in the display screen that is produced by Nvidia. Therefore, Nvidia is charging the manufacturers for these additional modules.
Any recommendations I feel like the 1660 ti is the sweetspot for "budget" oriented laptops. ive seen an HP omen with a 9750 and 1660ti, 256 gb 2x 8gb. for 1099.99. Im really considering returning my asus fx505, bc its connection to wifi is lacking, though my connection in general may be insufficient. I now want to consider a 6 core intel instead of the ryzen 7 as well as you've proven its 10% increase via the acer benchmark. though id like to run some lesser games while I stream shows/movies via hdmi. so im thinking the ryzen 7 could possibly be better for this scenario. Which is hard to test/compare I guess. Granted windows crawl to support ryzen thoroughly as well. 144hz screens also support g-sync which sounds like a better panel as well
You can actually get the Omen 15 with RTX 2060 and 9750h plus 1 TB storage for $1200 from Micro Center, that is a great deal. Also the 2019 Helios 300 I am testing is very good, that's $1200 on Amazon
@@OWNORDISOWNyeah im definitely eying that omen 15 with the rtx and 512 nvme for 1200, With the return/exchange of my fx505. Going to download the 1903 update to test if its any improvement, bc the wifi keeps dropping as well. Theres also an MSI GL63 with 1 full tb of ssd, I hope its a single nvme instead of 2x 512. But only time will tell. For 1099....and a 1660ti. I find that if I can lower the voltage of the intel cpu I can slightly OC the 1660 ti, to perform at rtx levels. Though the 2060. v 1660ti prompts interesting comparison at 1080p exclusively. Esp since rtx on is a huge performance drop.
Wondering if I can apply those same OC settings to the 2060 variant I have and get good results. Thanks for the video man. Not regretting my purchase whatsoever.

@@ML-fg4jv Yeah I agree, but this laptop seems like a good value for a 120hz panel, 1660ti and pretty thin and light. Plus better thermals and battery life from the 4 core cpu.
It also charges via USB C, can you do any testing with Lenovo's refinanced power brick vs after market ones for run time/performance?. Great video, my only hang up was threads saying it might take 5-6 weeks to receive one and now other manufactures have went to 9th gen processors
Good review. I'm still shopping for a laptop, and the Y740 is in my top five. If it had a QHD or better display option it would be in my top three. The lid and hinge design (I prefer the aesthetic of the Dell G-series), the awful webcam, and lack of a fingerprint scanner are a few other drawbacks to the Y740. But other than that the Y740 is great, and it's definitely one of the best buys for the money, especially when Lenovo does one of its hourly sales. I hear that the Y740 is going to be updated with 9th gen Intel and GTX 1660 ti graphics soon, so one may wish to hold out buying if those features are of interest.
What are your other choices? After a few days of searching, I'm considering buying an aero 15x or something from msi cause I've heard the 15x had bad speakers.
Leo Le I'm looking for a laptop for both personal and professional use (I'm planning on taking CAD courses online) with very light gaming thrown in. So based on my wants/needs, my first choice would be the HP Zbook Studio X360. Unfortunately the specs I want aren't available in Canada (HP sucks here), and importing one would be more trouble than it's worth, not to mention making an already costly laptop insanely, stupidly expensive. Really breaks my geek heart to pass on the Zbook. So my second choice is the Lenovo P1 with the Quadro P2000 gpu and a 4K display. I'm indifferent about the i7-8850H and Xeon cpu options, but I would probably take the Xeon just for the brand recognition should I go to sell the laptop later on. I do jump back and forth between the P1 and the X1 Extreme, but I think the P1 would serve my long term needs better. But that might change if Lenovo offers the X1 Extreme with a 9th gen cpu and 1660 ti gpu - here's hoping they do. I really like the Gigabyte Aero series, but I prefer my laptop not have a numpad, so I would take the Lenovo Y740 over it. For the same reason I'm passing on most of Dell's offerings, although I love Dell's aesthetics - their laptops remind me of what people in the 60's/70's thought cars would look like in the future. Other than that, I'm looking forward to checking out the upcoming 9th gen cpu - 1660ti gpu combos that are coming soon. MSI has some interesting prospects coming up in that area. I'm waiting to see some more reviews (or another Lenovo sale) before taking the plunge.
I saw other reviews about the Y740 that mentioned the speed sync not working right and the CPU running full load even while idle. Can you confirm these issues?
Greetings, I was wondering if the G7 with RTX 2080 graphics and 144hz display has G-sync? Also, does the Dell G7 have an option to disable Optimus? If these features are present, how are they controlled (turning G sync on/disabling optimus)?
Nice video, thanks for the comparison, wich of the 2 would you recomand to buy? Or neither of those 2, and recomand an other one? Build quality speaking , performance I saw that the y740 is better, and your thoughts about the laptops. And I have a question, in some websites is said about the G7 that is 20mm thin, and on Dell website's is 25mm advertised.
The G7 is 20mm thick and the G5 is about 23mm, same as the Y740. From a performance per $ the Y740 is the clear winner in my book. It runs cooler too. The main things going for the G7 is thunderbolt 3 and bigger battery, but it has no Gsync. If the Y740 had a bigger battery and perhaps an SD card reader that would be great. Out of all the RTX laptops I have tried I think the Y740 makes the most sense unless you really need a longer run time, in which case the G7 is a great option. I have always liked the Razer laptops and if you can find an Aero 15 with RTX at a decent price I think that is the most well rounded laptop because of its big battery, decent performance, 2 x m.2 slots x UHS 2 SD card reader and light weight.
@@OWNORDISOWN I understand, thank you very much for your answer, I will try to find the Aero 15, for my budget the Razer laptops are wayyy too expensive, maybe in the summer the prices will drop a bit, I hope so :)), here in Europe the prices are way higher, for exemple the G7 17 " with 8gb ram, 256gb ssd, 1tb hdd and rtx2060, is +/-1700€ about 1900$. And in my country (Romania) are even higher, here Dell doesn't have their own distribution network, only by third party, this stands for almost all brands :))
Did you activate the ''turbo cooling'' mode on the y740 when benchmarking ? The card is slowed down by a good 5-10% when it's not enabled, like on the Triton performance mode.
If that’s the case then it shows why mine is way behind about 10% because my laptop came without os and the software won’t install giving me a much lower score
Any idea why the dell G7 performs so badly in some test ? I'm in the market for a laptop and unfortunately the lenovo Y740 is not available here nor do they provide international warranty leaving the G7 as my only choice. Also does the performance of the G7 improve after the UV you applied in its review ?
It's because the G7 uses the 80w GPU whilst the Y740 pushes up to 101 W on its 2070 MQ when max fan is enabled. This allows the GPU to maintain a higher boost clock as its not as power limited. You can overclock the G7 GPU a bit and that helps but its still restrained with less power. Increasing the CPU clock by reducing its power and thermal throttle helps mainly in CPU crunching tasks, not so much in games.
Is the 15 inches screen in Y740 also have bad quality in dark as the 17 inches? or they fixed? maybe it's because of light in the logo on the back of screen?
The new 500 nit 15" Y740 is very dim below 50% brightness but has less backlight bleed than the 300 nit model. I have yet to try the 17", but would like to.
I really like your reviews, they are unbiased and highly informative. I have been trying to find the best laptop for gaming and programming within $2000 but it's an ocean out there. 1) Y740 Lenovo 2) Dell G7 3) HP Omen 4) Acer Helios 300 I'd be eternally grateful to you if you c8uld share your thoughts on these.
Im waiting for the Legion Y540 to arrive in my country though it has some delays but I can wait. Is the little bro somewhat good like Y740 or should I consider getting other laptops instead? The Y540 Im waiting for has i7 9750h, gtx 1650, 60hz screen for ~1200$ (the gtx and screen only have that one option, no better gtx or 144hz yet)
@@OWNORDISOWN well not only that, gtx 1650 is the only graphic card option. Id love to get my hands on gtx 1660ti or 144hz but lenovo US, UK or AU doesn't support international delivery and neither does Amazon sadly ~~
I noticed that recently when dell updated their G5 from 8th gen i7 to 9th gen, they removed the option for 90whr battery that was available in 15" models. My question is, is that option possibly gonna come back?
If you want a bigger battery on your laptop, just get an external one, you can easily double, triple or even quadruple your capacity for 100-200 bucks, and you won`t need to mess with the internals, as well as having the option of leaving the bulk at home :)
Lenovo is not using an off board DC jack, and replacement, if damaged isn't possible do to the part not being available. Manufactures quit with this poor design back in early 2000. Soldering a DC jack to the motherboard is bad! Never buy one!
Please review the 17" rtx 2060 for these models, I'm planning to buy real soon and I can't decide between the two, because there no comparisons of the 17"s
Hey Steven great video :) could you give the Y740 2080 a review Because if the 2070mq is close to 2080mq in terms of performance then I’d want to see the 2080 version Also currently the 2080mq is 1600$ (in the us)
I wish reviewers would tell/show us what the price of reviewed items are in other regions, namely the UK and Europe. It's all well and good saying a piece of tech is good value, but that's no good to a large chunk of your audience if they find it's not such good value in their region. I often find 'good value' items end up actually being very expensive here in the UK, and I know it's a similar story in Australia.
The Lenovo Y740 seems to be the winner in this comparison but the function keys on the left side are awkward. I can s myself hitting them by accident when trying to hit the ESC key. I'm hoping the next generation (Y750?) fixes this issue.
Just a heads up. I should have mentioned it in my video. I tested using max fans because I noticed that more power went to the GPU compared to auto fan, with negligible increase in thermals.
The #Lenovo Y740 performs well in video #editing or 3D #rendering ?

That's great news ! Yes, Its a great laptop. Glad you liked it and found my video useful :)

How's the noise of the fans when gaming?

Unfortunately, my G7 died just over a year used. I missed it, but it did got very hot, fan was loud we playing demanding games.

Exciting ! Good deal :)
Couple of other things on the G7 17 inch models that buyers should be aware of. (mine is the 7790 with the 8750h)
1) The spacebar is a bit lazy.
If the other module has the same speed and timings it should work just fine.

Stephen isn't 90C too much for a brand new laptop on max fans?and isn't it destructive to the hardware?
Yes, I wish more manufacturers had a mux switch so you can switch between dGPU and iGPU manually like my Triton 500
All things being equal what accounts for the better performance of the Y740?

@@HandsomeGamer6194 Thanks alot man! I appreciate it. I'm hoping AMD releases a CPU with more cores and threads.
Glad you liked my video. I'm afraid its all reset and boxed up ready to shop back to them tonight, it is a review unit.
@@OWNORDISOWN you should have put my address instead 🤣
it is very nice and cool comparison Sir
i liked that
Thanks, appreciate it 😀
2:39 that Y740 screen at night looks like my Dell 5576 at night sooooooo
My Triton 500 is bad too 😥
Greetings everyone. I'm excited for this video.
Hi there !
You can get the G7 battery on the Lenovo by choosing the battery option of 4cell +6cell pack
Does that do away with the 2.5" drive then?
@@OWNORDISOWN Yo Steven babi salai, waviuwa verosavol.
Leo Le
I'm looking for a laptop for both personal and professional use (I'm planning on taking CAD courses online) with very light gaming thrown in.
This video answered my questions/. Tq
Thanks!
I saw other reviews about the Y740 that mentioned the speed sync not working right and the CPU running full load even while idle. Can you confirm these issues?
Mine was fine, at idle running around the 800 Mhz mark.
Greetings, I was wondering if the G7 with RTX 2080 graphics and 144hz display has G-sync? Also, does the Dell G7 have an option to disable Optimus? If these features are present, how are they controlled (turning G sync on/disabling optimus)?
No G-sync, I have the laptop with 2080 max
@@trumpm.v.b540 that is expensive. I must admit, I think we have it very easy in the USA. Good luck with your search 👍
@@OWNORDISOWNThank you!
@@KING0SISQO you can get lenovo vantage software via microsoft store ;) They made it a microsoft app so it's easy to install and use.
Yes indeed. I used max fan. What you say is very true, I should have mentioned that in my video
Awesome and well detailed comparison! Thank you
Thanks, appreciate it 👍
Any idea why the dell G7 performs so badly in some test ?
@@OWNORDISOWN Thanks.
I fell asleep and now I’m watching this 😂
Got my y740 three weeks, it’s really a good laptop, have a nice price and very light
how is the keyboard is it as bad as they say? also what model u got 2060 or 2070
Is the 15 inches screen in Y740 also have bad quality in dark as the 17 inches? or they fixed? maybe it's because of light in the logo on the back of screen?
The new 500 nit 15" Y740 is very dim below 50% brightness but has less backlight bleed than the 300 nit model.
I have yet to try the 17", but would like to.
I really like your reviews, they are unbiased and highly informative. I have been trying to find the best laptop for gaming and programming within $2000 but it's an ocean out there.
1) Y740 Lenovo
2) Dell G7
3) HP Omen
4) Acer Helios 300

Im waiting for the Legion Y540 to arrive in my country though it has some delays but I can wait. Is the little bro somewhat good like Y740 or should I consider getting other laptops instead?
The Y540 Im waiting for has i7 9750h, gtx 1650, 60hz screen for ~1200$ (the gtx and screen only have that one option, no better gtx or 144hz yet)
From what I heard the Y540 is just as good. Shame the 144 hz panel isn't available for you.
Stephen,
What is your idle cpu frequency? Is your stepping down on idle?
In my battery test it was around the 800-1000 MHz mark. I had no issues on mine.
If you want a bigger battery on your laptop, just get an external one, you can easily double, triple or even quadruple your capacity for 100-200 bucks, and you won`t need to mess with the internals, as well as having the option of leaving the bulk at home :)
what battery are you talking about ? can I get some names/links pls ?
Lenovo is not using an off board DC jack, and replacement, if damaged isn't possible do to the part not being available. Manufactures quit with this poor design back in early 2000. Soldering a DC jack to the motherboard is bad! Never buy one!
Dont worry it will be outdated before then
Please review the 17" rtx 2060 for these models, I'm planning to buy real soon and I can't decide between the two, because there no comparisons of the 17"s
I do need to check out the 17" Y740. It may be a while though as I have 4 laptops to do and a VR headset.
Hey Steven great video :) could you give the Y740 2080 a review
Because if the 2070mq is close to 2080mq in terms of performance then I’d want to see the 2080 version
Also currently the 2080mq is 1600$ (in the us)
I would love to test their 2080 MQ one. If they release a 9th gen one with that GPU that would be ideal 👍
Which would you recommend
Great video
Thanks, appreciate it !
*speechless fyi
The Lenovo Y740 seems to be the winner in this comparison but the function keys on the left side are awkward. I can s myself hitting them by accident when trying to hit the ESC key. I'm hoping the next generation (Y750?) fixes this issue.
Yes, it takes some getting used to for sure :(
