One of my favorite things about Chico is how friendly people are. It’s easy to make friends and before long you are constantly running into people you know.
Totally agree. It's big enough to have a lot to do, and small enough where you run into people you know constantly. Love the friendly community here in town!
Grew up here and still love it. Will always feel like home base, I think. Pretty ideal in a lot of ways. Definitely not the Big City...but a nice place to call home.
I’ve lived here now for 3years. It is a really beautiful town!! I love all the trees and flowers! No traffic and super easy to get around and parking is easy!
QUESTION: Does Chico benefit from the weather phenomenon in the evenings known as "the Delta breeze" that Sacramento gets? Thanks for this great (and honest) evaluation!
Summers are hot. Not going to lie. What I've found is pretty cool is living next to Bidwell Park and going swimming. My kids and I are in there all the time in the Summer. Or have a home with a pool or access to a pool like In motion fitness.
My wife and I have been in Chico for five years now. You hit all of my same points, both pro and con, except that you didn't mention the potholes on so many of the smaller streets. It is annoying.
@@BrentSilberbauer The highlights for me are the tree lined streets, Bidwell Park and the Sycamore Pool. My wife and I, and my parents, all agree that we have found a Gem of a Town here in Chico. See you at the Thursday Night Market :-)
I always loved south chico. Old humboldt road was a great place to park and stargaze, as long as you could avoid occasional weirdos driving by looking for someone named “peanut.” Seriously. That happened several times to me in my 20’s up there while i was smoking a joint looking at stars. Who or what is peanut??
How bad was the fire on Upper Bidwell over earlier this year? Any chance of getting Bidwell Mansion rebuilt after it got burned? Also… is City of Chico still working on the homelessness out there? I would like to move back to the general area eventually, but I was shocked when I saw Bidwell Mansion. 😳🥺😢
@@ianfranklin2216 I have a video on homeless in Chico. Let’s just say it’s complicated but we have a city council doing whatever they can to have a safe and clean chico. The fire primarily burned wild land and not too many homes burned.
They’re trying to get the airport back going. No commercial flights at this time. And traffic isn’t too bad really 15 minute max gets you anywhere in town.
@@BrentSilberbauer then traffic has improved in the last 20 years or so. Hopefully you at least have the fire service planes working at the airport. Has Enloe hospital improved? You know its bad when even the doctors prefer Community hospital.
You forgot the homeless camps everywhere, heavy traffic on esplanade when the schools get out, all the shootings and crime that happens on Columbus Ave. And it doesn't take you weeks to explore upper park. I've hiked from lower park to upper park in a few hours.
@BrentSilberbauer you're welcome. I did like your video, and I do love chico. I've been living here for almost 30 years. But it's not the same as it used to be. I do love hiking here and love visiting the caves that us locals can't talk about or show others. Still love this place.
I’ve lived in Palm Springs CA and Phoenix AZ and I have to laugh at folks complaining about hot summers getting into 100 degrees. Chico summers are small potatoes if you’ve lived in these other places.
@@thomaskn1012 yep. We’re kind of babies. When I was in college I lived in a two story old Victorian home in downtown chico. No AC. Not going to lie, that was rough! But with some AC, a few trips to the creek or a pool and you’re good. 😀😀
It’s changed a lot since I graduated in 1992 from Chico State. We want to retire there, but are worried about the homeless and wildfire insurance, since we want some acreage. Can you help?
Yes. Of course. Homelessness is not that bad of an issue anymore. Fire insurance is normal if you’re not on the outskirts of town towards the east. Otherwise it’s fine.
@@BrentSilberbauer thank you Brent. I miss Chico all the time. I raised my daughter there as a single mom while going to college. I met my husband in my computer science class. @@BrentSilberbauer I will. My husband and I are both from CA. He’s from Castro Valley and I’m from San Diego. Coming home would be nice. We live on 2.5 acres now and it would be nice to have that, but as I said we don’t want to pay extra wildfire insurance.
No traffic in Chico? I guess it depends on where you live in Chico and what other town you're comparing Chico to. Compared to large cities, Chico is pretty good. Compared to what the traffic used to be in Chico years ago, there's a lot of traffic now. We've been here in Chico since 1978. Chico has changed a lot since then. I like your video!
The city is corrupt. The roads are awful. The city imports homeless. The amazing parks are now dirty, dangerous and full of criminals. There is a gang problem. It was however great in the 90's.
I think every California city is not as clean and safe as the 90’s. Chico was pretty rough in 2020, but we went from a 5-2 city council to a 1-6 city council. They immediately cleaned up the parks and downtown and currently I think it is very nice. But there was a rough spot when we had a terrible city council.
@@Daron125 it was 5-2 meaning the city council was a total of 7. 5 of them supported giving out needles to heroin attics in public parks, allowing people to camp anywhere they liked including water ways, supported “defund the police” measures which were popular at the time. True. Some are some aren’t. Getting the budget up so I can pay people to get shots all over. My latest video was 100% Chico. About Chico and homelessness. Well at least 95% 😎
Personal Pro and Con: Pro- They're continuing to expand and adding a lot more businesses, restaurants, homes, etc. (currently living in Meriam Park and enjoying the new developments on this side) Con- A lot of places do close fairly early. I'm from a bigger city so I'm used to businesses closing at midnight/after midnight. We're limited as to what we can do/where we can eat late at night. Other than that, Chico has really grown on me and I could definitely see myself living here long term IF they can get an airline to come back!! *crossing fingers*
Excellent point. Meriam Park is a big addition. I’ve noticed even in bigger cities the 24 hour pharmacy and other late night restaurants are closing early. I feel it may be a bit of post covid hours or something. Seems things changed then and haven’t come back full circle. And yes, airline needs to come in! Totally agree

So what do you think about this
You really have to look at your budget. Rent will be around $1600/mo for a nicer two bedroom apartment. Plus $120 in utilities. If you want to rent a house it’ll be about $2500/mo.
Chico is a very bad place......too many people want to keep it as a small town....ok.....and then life keeps evolving......People in Chico think they can stop progress......every modern city is evolving. The population is growing. People want Chico to become modern with the latest technologies, but they don't welcome industrial nor residential growth.. So sad that Chico is not going to progress
Why can't some places be like that? That is more my preference and is others too. I don't drive by choice, and to find a walkable city is fantastic! I like the relational aspect Brent noted in another vid - people keep running into each other, evoking that small town feeling. Fewer cars, more conversation! Tech has its limits. Nature rules.
