  • If you watched our recent Mojave Desert Modular Experiment videos with Zachary Paul ( • The Mojave Desert Modu... ) or Patrick Shiroishi ( • The Mojave Desert Modu... ) and are curious how these modular effects systems work this video explains some of the basics.
    This video explains why you might want to use a eurorack system as an effects unit for an instrument, what you will need and the basics of patching the system together.

    this is such an _ABSURDLY_ well made video. it should be the new standard for synth related videos.

    This should be THE video for guitarists getting into eurorack! Loved that you tried to compare everything to pedals to make guitar players feel at home

      Such a shame it took so long to land in my feed! I got bit by the Eurorack bug last Sept (it's been a super exxy quarter!) and, coming from a sort of "folk music" background, talking to people about buying all this 'acid techno' gear to record with gets tricky. F*ck it- I'll just send them a link to this vid instead! Good job.

      Yeah and he said one thing that I had never considered since getting into this stuff. If I’m using the synth for a guitar or with another keyboard, I don’t need modules that produce sound. Just typing that out makes me feel dumb but it’s the truth. I think I’ve just been looking at it as “get the best of everything and all of it”.

      One of the things I immediately loved about the modular synth world is that I recognize so many terms from guitar world

    This is one of the clearest overviews and explanations of how modulars work that I've heard. Also was cool how you made compairisons to guitar pedals and spoke about the differences. Nice work man! Thx for the informative video on the art of eurorack...very helpful 👍

    I love the idea of having a massive modular rig hooked up to a large matrix switcher that’s converted into a pedal and made to work with a midi pedalboard for presets. You can use it for guitar and if you also do keys or synth work you can go straight to that.

    This was a great follow up to the Mojave series. I just put together an effects system with an Erica Synths Dual Drive, a Kamieniec, Qi-bit Prism, a 4ms DLD and a 2hp Verb. These are helped out by a Doepfer A-119 and 177-2 for input and control. So much fun.

    I'm very interested and the power and space management are the main reasons. My suggestions is a switching bar with 1. a full stereo path 2. a scene switcher 3. a per pedal by-passable stereoizer that can at stereo character (subtle differential eq?). All these elements may already be on the shelf waiting to be selected an configured. If so, point me the way! This looks very good.

    This is a very interesting video. There is an item called the "patchulator" which is effectively a patch bay for guitar pedals. I can see that eurorack is definitely more versatile in terms of raw sound design, although it can also be more intimidating. I guess its about just getting into it and having a go. Maybe ill get into modular some day.

    I have an idea to make a special pedalboard that is made to be modular in every sense of the word. It would basically be a pedalboard with a bunch of female 1/4” jacks or even spring loaded male jacks. It would let you control the signal flow and set presets for different configurations. Say you want one effect before or after another, or you want an effect to go to the effects loop and then change it to go straight in. Would be pretty convenient. Another thing that would be cool is a eurorack module meant to profile or mode pedals, and another module meant to do it for patches. It can have a touch screen that lets you both profile the patch so you can use a dsp version of it as a starting point later on for ease of workflow, as well as record how the patch is made.

    From the first time I saw a synth, I wanted to plug my guitar into it. Well, actually, the first time I saw a synth, was in some TV show(I think Six Million Dollar Man), as a super advanced computer.

    I'm trying to find a way to create a sort of mono vintage sampler ala Emulator, Prophet 3000 etc. Perhaps rather than use a modular sampler, it would be better to use a simple 90s sampler and use the Eurorack as an effects processor.

      I am new to eurorack, but I am a 17 time award winning composer haha so i think i will figure it out :) i at least hope haha

    It is absolutely worth mentioning one of the first musicians and youtubers using only modular on electric guitars. He made also an album and BTW is one of my favourite ambient albums.. His name is Wilfried Thierry (or IKKINI on YT). Here is the link to his album. I don't know him, I'm not affiliated to him in any way, is just that he deserves this. wilfriedthierry.bandcamp.com/album/un

    hey
    in some point its right what you said with less wallwarts but what about the so called "cable-clutter" in the modular world?
    i guess its not right to recommend less power supply's around then handling with a colour coded cableclutter in you rack. what we see in the video is an unpatched system witch looks super clean but real modular audio and cv rooting can be a big "mess" where you dont know where you started or ended. in so point pedals are more "easy" to handle because there is NO cable clutter around.
    but hey, i have no single pedal/ i went modular for sure. so expect more cables then less wallwarts 😅

    • @SorchaSublime
      @SorchaSublime 3 роки тому

      the difference is that the cable mess in a eurorack system is entirely isolated to the synth, which can be moved around whereas a wallwart mess is far larger, involves larger individual pieces of clutter, is always on your floor and cant easily be moved as they have to be connected to the wall.

  • @MemphianSounds
    @MemphianSounds 3 роки тому

    And what is the total cost for those rack pieces?

    • @citizenbxtr883
      @citizenbxtr883 2 роки тому +1

      Exactly the same range you would expect building a pedal board. Budget or boutique, used or new, d.i.y. or pre-built, large case or starter case. It’s a balance between your needs and your means. …it’s a deep rabbit hole!
