Elena isn't even his type to begin with, and the sooner he realises the better. Damon likes a challenge and someone who boldly stands up to him. He picks on Bonnie to get a rile out of her, and vice versa. Damon definitely enjoys it, Bonnie somewhat does (when she wins in the end anyway). Bonnie and Damon push each other's buttons and their limits. They're both brains and brawns, which makes them a kickass team on the field.
I don't think it matters whether Elena is his type or not The only thing that does matter is that Damon is in love with Elena and he always will no matter what happens. There's just a connection between them that most people feel. Damon and Bonnie are like best of friends. But at the end of the day Damon and Elena are in love.

Unfortunately Caroline Dreadful and Julie Plaque couldn't fathom Bonnie with a love interest who only loved her (even Enzo chased Caroline and Lily before settling for Bonnie). They were forced to recognize Bamon thanks to Ian & Kat's chemistry and fans but had to make it a friendship because they only cater to psycho Delena shippers. You people can't just let others enjoy our ships. You have to jump into Bamon spaces and attack.

@@elleiahjx3718 This scene right here is a prove that he in fact cared for bonnie before. Are you blind?? The only one who knew beside jeremy about bonnies plan to take out Klaus, was him. Jeremy actually agreed with the plan, but damon was the one who had the idea to save bonnie. She didn't die in this episode bc of him, and he could've easily let her die. In season 3, when the witches led bonnie to alarics corpse so he could turn, damon was obviously there after saying goodbye to him, he saw bonnie, and saved her, feeding her his blood after she fed alaric. She even said, I quote "If you're so upset with me, why did you feed my your blood to save my life?" Again, he could've let her die and nobody would've found out. In season 4, he spent the entire day in the woods looking for bonnie, Another person could've done it, just like Rebekah told him, but he said, I quote again "I can't show up without bonnie". You said "oh, he told elena in that episode he didn't give a crap about her" but his actions said otherwise. In season 5 also, when bonnie died again, he was the one who tried the hardest to bring her back. We know how damon is always playing the 'I don't care about anyone' crap, bc that's just how he is. Using that logic, then he wouldn't have never fallen for elena considering the fact that he said to stefan "I hope elena dies". He said that, yet he was still in love with elena bc that's just how damon is. He says he doesn't care but his actions tell a different story. He also said he didn't care for rose yet we know how much she meant to him. I think you need to rewatch the show and accept the facts. He has always had a soft spot for bonnie and the only who has showed his gratitude to her all seasons, but in season 6 he started to care for her more, because she helped him survive his personal hell. It's not that hard to get.

Bamon's chemistry is a million times better than Delena's. If Damon wasn't such a creep and the writers actually valued Bonnie as more than a sacrificial lamb for her friends, this would've been such an interesting ship.

Honestly this scene really pushed it for me. Since then it's been Bamon all day everyday. I really feel like Season 7 won't disappoint. The writers are just waiting for everyone to give up on Bamon so they can shock us with a kiss after 7 years

It would have made sense, instead of the ridiculousness of Dullena. That whole relationship was based on sexual attraction that they confused for love.
She started out manipulating him to get him to do what she needed him to do. When he didn't she'd turn on him and tell him how awful he was. He'd self destruct and do something deadly and violent to people. Out of the blue, Julie writes her to be oblivious to everything but Damon. She digresses to excuse the horrible things he does and she even says she doesn't know why. She admits they're toxic together, and so does he, but yet they "love" each other unconditionally?
He kept the cure from her because he really wasn't sure how much she really loved him and was afraid to test it. He was willing to take the cure "for her" not himself. She did not help him grow into the man Stefan says he once was. That was Bonnie. She is the one that challenged him and was a moral compass. She showed him how she believed in him and sacrificed for him. She didn't just say it, like that was enough.
You could see the loving chemistry between them, jumping off the screen. He was afraid of the feelings they had so he left her to sleep until she was dead, and the temptation to be with her was gone, so he could be with Elena guilt free. Julie Plec was against them happening because she has a problem with Black women. Look how they are treated on her vampire shows.

Damon needs to train Bonnie. I am convince he told her about that spell to kill herself, because she didn't know what to do just that she'll do anything. It was Damon that asked her if she was game and really meant what she said, and Bonnie like the badass that she is not only beat the breaks off Klaus, but the girl killed herself. And Damon taught her how to do so. I love how he knows she's not dead yet the caress on the cheek and the lingering of his fingers over her face where awesome.
Bonnie and Damon should've hooked up after this it would've mirrored Debekah's hookup in 3x14.

That's how it was in the books, to my understanding. I believe tv Damon transferred his feelings from Katherine to Elena, once he figured out Katherine lied to him, and said she never loved him. It will always be Stefan.
In the original author's version, they had something going and then Elena lost her memory or something, because she was with Stefan, who supposedly died. She was led to believe that she was in love and in a relationship with Damon. Damon was told to go along with it so her memory wouldn't get triggered about Stefan. That put a wedge and strain between him and Bonnie...If anyone who's read the L.J.Smith versions please tell me if that's about close to correct.
