I have owned a 2009 with AT AND 2.4 L petrol from brand new. Done 130ooo klm no real troubles. An annoying creaking noise in front suspension when going over gutter on right or left turns at very slow speed eg into my home driveway. No oil leaks anywhere.Runs very smoothly .Drivetrain is a bit clunky on deceleration at roughly 20-40 klm per hr coming up to an intersection. I must say 2.4 L is insufficient for weight of car to get excellent acceleration in an emergency but in everyday running is enough. eg if you are parked on side of a highway and want to get back on, you need a heap of time to accelerate hard to get to 100klm per hour so as not to be a danger to traffic coming up behind you.

Now I'm taking better care of it as great character and I want to keep it as 2nd car. Current project is to replace air compress for A/C as it's getting tired. 2008 1.9L Turbo Diesel model. Oil leak between engine and gearbox. It feels like it needs an extra gear between 1st & 2nd, and being a diesel it is a bit less forgiving on the clutch and it will wear out faster. Around town it is quite unrefined and you need skill to overcome turbo lag while in peak hour traffic. Inside is quite comfortable for passengers. I am 6'4" and fit in the drivers seat OK leg room is liveable not great, I am not able to straighten my legs all the way but very few 4x4's will allow that anyway. Off-road it is VERY good. It talks back to you saying that this is what it was designed for. Took it out to high country in VIC in mud and snow up and down hills as steep as you like the diesel engine never struggled. Excellent turning circles doing an about-face on a narrow track was never a problem. It kept up with Defenders and Jeeps it was only limited by wheel clearance in what it could do and ofcourse that meant picking wheel placement more carefully than them. It received compliments on how quickly it was able to move, the others like to move quickly and had their reservations at first but in the end were delighted that "the little Vitara" was able to keep pace. It feels really good doing all the rough tracks, i dont know how much better it would be with a lift kit or if I should just get something else. It is quite good on fuel, consistently 8.6L per 100km. It is not the cheapest thing to repair. Don't buy one that was pulling large loads regularly. It's rated at 2 tonnes breaked but the transmission will need to be rebuilt.

Once I was driving a 2.0 2008 petrol model for a week WITHOUT motor oil and the strange noise made me go for a check. One thing tho, early model years of the 2.4 GVs suffer from blown headgaskets and engine blocks cracking, my 2009 cracked its block recently. Yeah not sure why he did the comparisons, older GVs he was talking about are all 4WD and then say AWD and 2WD SUVs as alternative options. Fortuners and Pajeros are basically the only other comparative vehicles but basically at double the price tag used.
I had a 2001 Pajero with the 3.6 petrol engine. She was a beast until the crank seized on the motorway. Thought I'd give the Grand Vitara a try. It has a 2" lift and I'm about to fit some Maxxis mud tyres. It will be interesting to see how she performs off road.
I have a 2008 with the 2.7l I bought new. My biggest issue is the damn water pump. The original water pump started to leak 2017. You have to disassemble the whole Front of the engine to get it off as it is under the timing chain cover. The new one started to leak a couple of years later. It’s just a small leak so I haven’t changed it yet. It does cause the heater to not work as well when it’s really cold out. Other than the that, it’s been a good suv.
So I have just completed a 3,900km trip over four months, mainly off road in New Zealands South Island. I have a 2"lift and running 16" steel wheels with Falken Wildpeak AT3's. The little Zuk went amazing. We took the back seats out so we could sleep in the back, mainly on top of mountains or at remote lakes and rivers. We could go 90% of the places the bigger rigs could go. The only thing that stopped me was the deeper wheel ruts that the 35" tyres on the bigger rigs would cut into the track. I reckon we went 90% of the places for 1/5th of the price. The Zuk gave me no troubles the entire time.

How much did it cost to replace the transmission? Thinking about buying a second hand 2.7l v6 vitara
@@EtienneCitron about $500 to get one from a wrecking yard, difficult to find because anywhere I called they were sold.
If you buy a second hand car doesn't mean it has this issue, look under the car mid section, if it's dry then its not leaking
@@nikkoBcool Thanks a lot for the reply, have a great day.

Suzuki Vitara is very Grand in looks, king of the road, Honda CR-V is very ugly with its round looks from behind. It has no shape at all, moreover it's built quality is very cheap and had been made for people who cannot afford Suzuki Grand Vitara.
Grand Vitara has History of more than 3 decades, it was first built in 1988 and then 1998 and the 3rd generation was the most refined and very tuned SUV in compact size.
Looks of Grand Vitara is Very Grand on Road. No comparison with a 3rd class Honda CR-V built with a poor quality design.. Very ugly looks it has from behind. Honda CR-V 2005 model was good
Send me some parts 😅
Unfortunatly, I was not able to understrand much due to your poor english.
Hi, I have a SVG 4cylinder engine J20A, do u know if the front shocks from the V6 model would work on the 4 cylinder model?
@@ashleylalman9795 I'd guess the shocks are the same with possibly different rated springs for the heavier engine....look up some part numbers and compare.
