Super nice man. He and Lou Ferrigno did a demonstration on lifting techniques. I had the honor of personally being coached by him in bench and deadlift after the program was over. They both were unbelievably nice and humble. An amazing human being.
I bought Franco’s bodybuilding book back in the late 70s! It was the first bodybuilding book I ever got. The second was Arnold’s Encyclopedia of BB. I’ve never needed another!
Me to...the book is titled coming on strong and the cover photo of franco doing a single biceps pose did it for me..back then we had no internet and muscle building books were hard for me to get so i spent hours reading and rereading feancos book
Mighty Franco has always been one of my personal heros, i just wish he came with a warning label...you cannot be this strong dont try you will have several hurnias
I saw a film clip of Franco where he picked up one end of a car, while someone exchanged a wheel. I believe he trained Stallone for the first Rocky movie.
So in the video at the 2:47 mark his name is spelled Columbo ending with a o which is an Italian name now everywhere his name ends with a u, is this part of the Mandella Effect if you don't know what it is look it up.
Franco was an unruly monster pound for pound (behond elite, lengendary and super special), however Coleman was a psycho and sacrificed his body to push those numbers.
One of my friends was over 300 pounds and got really fat and finally after his wife and father started winning body building competitions he lost almost 100 pounds in one year then spent another year after that so two years bodybuilding He took second at a competition and got a job working at a gym as his second job. He only did one competition because it's expensive to eat all the time. I can remember when I had bigger arms than he did and I was four inches shorter. Now I have had a stroke and I only train with twenty pound dumbbells and machines up to 300 pounds for my legs and 100 pounds for everything else
The Greatest Booing Contest of All-time, was said and written by Rick Wayne, who was there! People threw their programs on the stage as they were booing! Tom Platz was only repeating what Rick Wayne said first.
He was strong but I don't think he was the strongest ever. Pound for pound maybe. But Ronnie Coleman and Greg Kovacs moved insane poundages and those guys were way over 100 lbs heavier. Franco was a short man.
You have the facts mixed up. Franco moved to the United States in the late 60s not the early 60s. Arnold talked Joe Weider into bringing Franco over to the United States. Arnold and Franco had been training partners in Europe. Otherwise, I enjoyed the video.
Once Franco went off of the drugs his lifts were no better than that of any natural gym rat. He lost all of his great muscle mass and he lost that uber impressive physique. So an entire generation worshiped Franco even though he was just drugs. I'm NOT impressed.

My Favourite bodybuilder of all time! Those are the golden days of bodybuilding with Franco and Arnold.
That’s how the Golden Era got its well deserved name!
A true friendship between him and Arnold
That pic of them sitting next to each other shortly before he died with his head resting on Arnold really touches

@@richardlawson6787 Same for me!
We love you Franco. Rest in peace sir
A legend.
Nice job.
Franco was special.
RIP
I bought that book when I was in high school. My muscle mass improved dramatically after that. I lent it to a friend and never got it back.
Thank you for this beautiful documentary ❤
Got to meet him at an event in Honolulu in 1980. Very impressive and nice guy
FRANCO COLUMBU ROCKS!
Franco was a beast
Of a man for his body weight
Shit he was a beast for ARNOLDs weight
There were some greats in those days. For a short guy, Franco was a damn tank. Arnold had the height and Franco had the strength.
Wrong, Lou Ferigno had the height. Arnold is not tall. Look at him from close up some time. I’m a head taller.
I used to always checkout his books at the library..
I had to download this to my phone. Very good Sir, very damn Good.
Thanks Michael - there’s a lot more on my channel if you’d like to check them out 🙏
he was the BEST PERIOD
@throttleupfly Not really
Franco and Arnold 👍💪😊
I never got a chance to meet Franco but, I am sure he was a nice human being. And strong bodybuilder.
Thank you for sharing this awesome video ❤
Thank you for watching ❤️

He could throw some hands 😮
Sure could! I wouldn’t want to catch em’
Great video mate 👌🏻💪🏻🏴🇬🇧

Legend
One of the best to ever do it!
What a slick narrated documentary
Thanks so much!
that strongman injury where he dislocated his leg, that was very nasty , when i saw that i almost felt that pain:(
Dude was strong as an ox. Even Arnold said Franco was a lot stronger than him 💪🔥🔥🔥
Arnold said that Franco was part man part animal and had ungodly strength
I saw a film clip of Franco where he picked up one end of a car, while someone exchanged a wheel. I believe he trained Stallone for the first Rocky movie.
هدا الرجل هوا اسطورة وقد اثرا في مفهوم كمال الاجسام
RIP FRANCO.
81 olympia also winner. And 31 oktober 1965 was a sunday and it rained very hard in Stuttgart.
The Greatest and best friend of Arnold. ❤
Franco and Arnold were cheaters and con men
that is how i see bodybuilding, like back in the days. Slim waist no belly. Good proportions, and not freaky
Franco was the strongest bodybuilder ever, and not only pound for pound.
So in the video at the 2:47 mark his name is spelled Columbo ending with a o which is an Italian name now everywhere his name ends with a u, is this part of the Mandella Effect if you don't know what it is look it up.
It was Columbo for me ... The TV detective was called Columbo, also an Italian . I'm sure they are deliberately playing games with ppl
Edward kawak also one of the icons of BB late 1970 early 80's
FANTASTICO FRANCO
Didnt realize Franco was in Predator. That scene was obviously cut. You can call him the Bat from now on. Franco the bat.
Strongest of all time, considering his body weight
A collectors item wall. Notice how no body builders in those days had "Bubble Guts"
I think they're talking relative to time periods
WOW
😳😳
Телосложение пожалуй даже лучше чем у арнольда. Жаль ростом не вышел.
We should have got a movie called best friends
If you squint and use your imagination Danny DeVito kinda looks like Franco in Twins 🤷♂️
RIP Franco
R.I.P
please in english

Sorry about your stroke, bro. Tough break

Of course the Italian is the brick layer

Just validated this. Great comment! Pinned.
Franco won. Period.❤
Franco won. Arnold beat Sergio Oliva a few years earlier under very questionable circumstances also.
@@bullymaguire9318 It was a disgrace. Period.
Colombu is not at fault... blame the judges.
Good video; however, his 1981 Olympia victory was actually four years after his WSM injury, not just a few months.
Another error you have is that Franco's 1981 victory in the Mr. Olympia was several years, not months after his injury at the World's Strongest Man.
I guess people forget that he was a Terminator in Terminator and he killed a dog...😮
He was strong but I don't think he was the strongest ever. Pound for pound maybe. But Ronnie Coleman and Greg Kovacs moved insane poundages and those guys were way over 100 lbs heavier. Franco was a short man.
At 9:23 Gyno.
Rip
Arnold is poison
No the strongest bodybuilder Marvin eder from the 50s Arnold said it himself
You have the facts mixed up. Franco moved to the United States in the late 60s not the early 60s. Arnold talked Joe Weider into bringing Franco over to the United States. Arnold and Franco had been training partners in Europe. Otherwise, I enjoyed the video.
Ronnie Coleman was stronger than Franco on every single lift.
Coleman was almost a foot taller and a hundred pounds heavier!
@@Bismarck.1871 Indeed, but that shouldn't disqualify him from being considered as the strongest bodybuilder ever.
Coleman also had better steroids, and is a cripple now. Franco lived until 78 and basically died swimming not crippled.
Once Franco went off of the drugs his lifts were no better than that of any natural gym rat. He lost all of his great muscle mass and he lost that uber impressive physique. So an entire generation worshiped Franco even though he was just drugs. I'm NOT impressed.
That goes for all of them Bro.
Nothing but glorified drug addicts 💉
007
Please he was the most over rated Mr Olympia who only won because of politics and being Arnolds besty.
Strongest bodybuilder was Ronnie Coleman
He was strong but Ronnie is the strongest bodybuilder of all time
Yeah, but Ronnie was almost 8” taller and 80lbs heavier.
@@Bismarck.1871 no because Ronnie was doing his heaviest lifts only a few weeks from a show when bodybuilders are at their weakest. That's why.
Nope, Len Sell
Franco couldn’t carry Ronnie Coleman’s lunchbox in the gym
Ronny Coleman wouldn’t be able to carry his own lunchbox without steroids.
@@zrvpvo8789 They were all doing steroids
No, the guy from Canada 700 BP x 2
He stole Mr. Olympia because Arnold fixed it for him..
franco columbo- The biggest cheater to ever steal the 1981 mr olympia title is a more accurate heading.
Also the tiniest. He’s probably 5 foot tall.
Era un nano vicino ad Arnold
Don't forget about all the anabolic steroids he took to reach his muscularity !
0h that somehow make him less than you? I think not.
@@Gary-e5w9n health altering drugs for fame is a evil . Sets a bad example ,
Franco was great, a legend even, but far from the strongest bodybuilder ever 🤦 Ronnie was easily stronger, just to mention one.
Not mouth power lung power he had very strong lungs!
A bb historian you are not
Though very strong for his size he was certainly not the strongest bodybuilder ever.
Casey viator was stronger
Everyone’s entitled to their own opinion I guess!
Larry wheels or ronnie coleman. There this video title is false
Strength sports consider strength on a pound for pound basis. So does this title.
They were lifting the same weight at 100 pounds heavier,so,no,not stronger
Not even close to the strongest bodybuilder ever lol
