This was dad's song and he's been gone since 2005. I play this as a tribute to him and all the fathers around the world!!!!!! HAPPY FATHER'S DAY TO YOU ALL!!!!!
Bonnie Pointer passed away on June 8th, 2020, she was 69 years old... The Oakland, CA native, as a solo artist, had three Top 100 records, "Free Me From My Freedom" {#58 in 1979}, a covered version of the Elgins' "Heaven Must Have Sent You" {#11 in 1979} and a covered version of the Four Tops' "I Can't Help Myself (Sugar Pie, Honey Bunch)" {#40 in 1980}... She charted six more times on the Top 100 as a member of the Pointer Sisters... May she R.I.P.
we had this album "ten four" a compilation of disco music from wea records which includes this song, working my way back to you girl by the spinners, funky town by lipps inc., and some love songs like longer by dan fogelberg to name a few back in '79- '80. i was just a kid then but the memories still remain and mind you, we still have that vinyl long play record in our possession. 😊❤❤❤
Love Bonnie's version of this song !!! Wish she'd come out with a greatest hits with all her songs - and the longer versions of her classics like this song !!!
i discovered this version this week, sadly after her recent death. for me the best version of the original. such vibration and rythm of this iconic classic. Loved IT!
Motown’s late 1970s and early ‘80s dance. Using output was very well produced but often remains overshadowed by its earlier heyday-years’ hits and success. Wish this great help would come out on iTunes. I’ve got the album, in the meantime! 😎
On this day in 1980 {March 8th} Bonnie Pointer performed "I Can't Help Myself" on the late Dick Clark's 'American Bandstand' Three months earlier on December 22nd, 1979 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #40 and spent 13 weeks on the Top 100 Of course the original version was by the Four Tops in 1965; their version reached #1 {for 2 weeks} Two other versions also charted; the Magnificent Men {#90 in 1967} and Donnie Elbert {#22 in 1972} RIP Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012}
Idk why Bonnie wanted to leave The Pointer Sisters but her success was minimal compared to the heights of "The Pointer Sisters ". She could've done solo projects and still been part of them but only they know why...RIP June,Bonnie 🙏🏽🙏🏽😔😔

Three months earlier on December 22nd, 1979 it entered Billboard's Hot Top 100 chart; eventually it peaked at #40 and spent 13 weeks on the Top 100

Two other versions also charted; the Magnificent Men {#90 in 1967} and Donnie Elbert {#22 in 1972}
RIP Mr. Clark {1929 - 2012}

Idk why Bonnie wanted to leave The Pointer Sisters but her success was minimal compared to the heights of "The Pointer Sisters ". She could've done solo projects and still been part of them but only they know why...RIP June,Bonnie 🙏🏽🙏🏽😔😔
