The young man is very good with that stick. He may have gotten those skills from Morgan of The Walking Dead, Fear the Walking Dead. Now thanks to you, my wife will be wondering where the post went from our 4-poster bed, lol.
Another job well done Gene!
LOL, I’m not sure where he got that from. Thanks again so much for watching.
Harbor Freight and Tung oil for the win! Great video!
Thanks Don, this was a fun afternoon project.
Certain woods like birch and mahogany are known as sensitizers meaning that the more contact you have with these materials, the more sensitive you will become to them. Great Video!!!
Thanks for the information. That is good to know. I had a lot of fun on this project. Thanks again for watching.
Another amazing video! I think I need one of these for every day use :-) Love the bow skills and out takes too!! Great tutorial!
Thanks so much for watching!
That's awesome! Always look forward to your vids. Cheers from SE Coastal North Carolina!
Hello Erik! Thanks for watching. Did you get a chance to watch my coffee table video? ua-cam.com/video/AF_H5VJRzjc/v-deo.html
Great video Gene! Gave me some ideas! Thank you
Oh I am glad it gave you some ideas. Rock on! and thanks for watching.
Your son has some sick bow-staff skills. -Napoleon Dynamite
He will get a kick out of that. Thanks for watching.
Awesome Gene!👍😎
Hello Dartman! How are things going?
Love the end as well as the still for the video. I thought you were posing with walking stick as a bo. Now I'm sure.
Thanks for watching.
I use a 40 grit flap wheel for shaping.......
Nice stick.....
@@deegenna8310, That’s a great idea and probably a lot less dangerous. LOL
Thanks for watching.
I just used a hand plane to round a 2 x 2 and it was quick and pleasant woodworking..
@@robd7703, after this I ordered round plane but I haven’t had a chance to try it. But it sounds like much more fun.
@@DIYGene I used a regular plane , a number 4. First marked off 1/4” on all sides and the planed to the marks. After that just continued to plan off high edges until round. It was fun.
Not sure how you sharpen a round plane but I love to sharpen my regular planes.
@@robd7703, I think there is something cathartic (if that’s the word) about it.
Reminds me of Gandalf and his staff (awesome movie). I always pay the extra money for handmade stuff because it has character and it looks really good - better quality too, so I would rather buy this one than a synthetic walking stick, it looks sooo good.
My son earned his black belt taekwondo many years ago, looks like your son would be very good at that too.
Wishing you and your family all the best, hugs from Belgium - Daniella.
Gandalf! that was the name I was thinking of!. Daniella, Say hello to everyone in Belgium. Thanks again for watching.
Gene I don't think the disc you put on your grinder was for sanding it's for cutting small branches the one you could of got has pin like heads on the disc and there's a tungsten tip one the eats the wood but leaves it rather smooth 😊
I have seen those too and I am going to pick one up. But this disc is called a carving disc. But maybe more like a chain saw style for sculpting. Thanks for watching.
Looks like a beaver on speed had a go at it.
LOL, I felt like a beaver on speed.
You should be sponsor by harbor freight lol i love your videos man👍
I wish they would. lol. Thanks for watching.
If you're a true carver, no wood is ever scrap.
But it is when I’m talking to the lumber store LOL! Thanks for watching.
looks great. Very Harry Potter? well done!
Hi Barry, Thanks again for watching.
Try a flap disc 60 grit on angle grinder. Way better results.
@@larasea741 Great suggestion. Thanks for watching.
Throw that disc in the bin, seriously. Very, very dangerous. Plenty of warnings on you tube
❤👍
Thanks Robert!😀
Love the look of this staff. Personally I’d have put the leather thong below the ball on top. However that’s just my preference.
That’s a good idea. I wish I had thought of that.
I’m going to go smash my Mom’s antique mahogany dining table for my scrap piece of …..wood.
LOL, thanks for watching.
@@DIYGene Thanks for laughing at my jokes! Stay cool my brother! 😎
Stay away from those grinder disks people. I really don’t care how competent you are, stay away from them. Seriously.
Have you heard or seen bad things? This could be good information to know. Thanks
@@DIYGene I know 2 people who have lost fingers with kickbacks from them. A flapper sanding disk for the grinder does pretty much the same job with a lot less risk.
That chainsaw blade is pretty intimidating. Thanks for sharing this.
I think Stumpy Nubs had an incident with one as well
1st! lmao!
Thanks for watching JJ!
Why in the name of all that is Holy are you using that chainsaw like that? That is not a grinding disk. You want a single piece that looks like a rasp bent into a circle.
Those chain disc are effective but fairly dangerous. I would recommend a rasp surface style disc like Kutzall makes in different grits to shape walking sticks or other surfaces that need carving / shaping. Just my 2cents worth of options.:
@@williame.6965 I would tend to agree with you. It is very dangerous and not that easy to control.
