Mysore Ananthaswamy in 1988 at Kannada Koota Of Northern California (KKNC) Music & Singer Mysore Ananthaswamy Poet - G S Shivaruddrappa Tabla - Raju Ananthaswamy Guitar - Sunitha Ananthaswamy
I lived in Bangalore between 1962 and 1971 my most impressionable years. I grew up watching Rajkumar movies and the beautiful songs of PB Srinivas, S Janaki and others. Though a Tamilian, even today when I want to write a Tamil song, I use Kannada script to write because I can write Kannada more fluently than Tamil! I am surprised that I had never heard of Mysore Ananthaswamy during my entire stay in Bangalore though he was already very famous in the sixties itself. It was around 2012 while searching for an old Kannada song " Brahma ninge jodisteeni enda muttitha kaina" that I came across another favorite " yenda, yenthi, Kannada padagol" by Raju Anathaswamy.I was very impressed by Raju's energy, exuberance and his sense of humor while singing that song. I started searching more of his songs, then learnt about his father, and then was shocked to learn that the young Raju had already passed away. While I felt sorry for Raju and his family, my admiration for their contribution to Kannada Sugama sangeetha increased many fold. This song brings out the best in Mysore Anathaswamy. All his compositions are beautiful. I can imagine how proud he would have felt to see his two young children accompany him. Especially, Raju playing the tabla like a maestro at the age of 15! Yet, our Karmas can be very cruel to us. I was very saddened to learn that Mysore Ananthswamy died of throat cancer. There can be nothing more painful and tortuous for a singer than to see his vocal chords removed. I am sure somewhere he would have been equally unhappy to learn that his genius son had fallen prey to alcohol and finally died because of it. These are painful details even for an ordinary admirer like me and I can imagine what these events would have meant for the family. I understand the daughter Sunitha is still carrying on the Anathaswamy tradition and would be grateful if she can upload more of rare concerts of her father and brother.
Thanks for sharing your experience eshwaran!!!! Many of my non kannadiga people are not even ready to accept that kannada songs are good then how can i tell them what is the meaning of bhavageethe sugama sangeetha I am happy that atleast people like you can know the fragrance of kannada lyrics thank u
Kannadada Dodda Kogile Mysore Ananthaswamy ji. Yella Janumadallu Ee Kannada Nadinalli Iddu Nimma saraswati seve Madi yendu Aa Devaralli Nunu Prarthisuttene Gurugale. Very Melody your Voice Guruji.Good Composing this song. and Great Poet - G S Shivaruddrappa ji.Namma Kannada naadu Dhanya Nimminda.Nimma Abhimani Mahantesh.
Singer has disappeared. But singing happening alone, on its own. He handles himself as an instrument. Absolutely mesmerising. I literally broke out when he seizes music and sings "yaaru kivi mucchidaru"... Miss him badly in the time of pathetic Kannada songs.
I always wonder how G.S shivarudrappa could write such an awesome lines about a musician /singer .. This is certainly a masterpiece work by G.S.S and ananthswamy sir .. Hats off ..
Thank you Ms Sunitha for gifting us this video collection from your 1988 concert tour in US. There was a lot of sadness I had hearing about the unexpected passing away of Raju Ananthaswamy... But looking at the video, I left a bit consoled to see how you and your brother at your young ages, made your father proud with your concert accompaniment... I am sure that is a great memory you will treasure. Shri Ananathaswamy is very special to my heart as a music lover... We used to see and hear him perform at least twice in a year at Devaiah Park (Sriramapuram area) Bangalore, during our growing up days. His performance was always packed to the brim and overflowing to the roadside far away... Many including me (as a young boy) would perch on tree branches to get his glimpse when he sang... I think the song "Baa Olave" that all your family members have sung is the best!
I meant to say "Aseema Roopi Ambaradalli" song, which had all of you. "Baa Olave" with just you two sisters is also amazing, that I have heard you both singing in Boston.
This song is so blissful and every time i hear, it starts to grow on me and I can't stop playing this only once. Thanks so much for uploading this beautiful track.
Growing up in Mysore in late 70s and 80s, me and my friends attended many of Mysore Ananthaswamy's concerts and we are die hard fans. Being away in US for last 25 years somehow I had lost touch with what was going on back home. I recently read in Decanherald about your concert in Bangalore and then went to UA-cam and watched Raju Ananthaswamy's concerts and wanted to find something more recent ones and then I stumbled on the old news story about his passing away. I am deeply saddened to learn that and I am now trying to watch as many videos that I can find and catchup. I did not even know about Raju Ananthaswamy till yesterday. But I have seen you sing along side your dad in Mysore. Please post any videos you have. Mysore Ananthaswamy and then Raju Ananthaswamy were Karnataka's treasures.
Such a talented family, this is so beautiful! I can't even begin to express the overwhelming emotions (pride, despair, sadness...) that I feel when I see this. Especially watching Raju uncle playing the tabla with so much ease. Was there anything musical or art-related that he couldn't do? What a complete artist! Nobody can ever forget the contributions of this family to Kannada Bhavageete, and music in general. :') Forever indebted for having been able to be associated with this family, and so grateful for getting the opportunity to interface and be guided by Raju uncle.
This is blissful, seventh heaven experience for me. Such a versatile performance from the maestro Mysore Ananthaswamy. I will listen to this song over and over as long as I live on this planet. Takes me to a different world whenever I play this.
Mesmerizing voice, equally good song and composition. Unfortunately he never got his due credit for his various works. We surely miss him and Raju also.
