Two Michelin Star Restaurant in an Old Chapel - The Jane in Antwerp, Belgium

  • An old chapel has been transformed into one of the world’s most spectacular dining rooms. The Jane was ranked no. 66 on The World’s 50 Best Restaurants 2021; a meal here is indeed a religious experience. Where the priest would have stood at the pulpit, Nick Bril and his team stand in an open kitchen at the front of the dining room. Come worship in the temple of food, sing songs of praise to the Norwegian scallop and the North Sea Turbot, and ask for forgiveness for licking the plate clean of the venison jus on the main course. Indeed, you will be led into many temptations.

    The frites atelier is owned by one of the more famous chefs in Belgium, Sergio Herman. I think he said somewhere something like that fries are not just fries or an addition to certain meals and stuff but could be a top culinary dish on their own. So if it seemed a bit pricy, thats the reason why :D

    The "Frites Atelier" was started by chef Sergio Herman, who started together with Nick Bril the Jane.....
    Sergio Herman who still has a few restaurants with Michelin stars (AIRrepublic * , Pure C ** , Le Pristine *), his 1st restaurant had 3 stars (Oud Sluis which closed at the end of 2013, a few months before The Jane openened).

    Great vlog but one thing...Belgian fries are NEVER EVER triple cooked. They are fried at 170 degrees centigrade for the first time (cooking the inside of the fries)and then at 190 degrees for the second time (ensuring the crispness).

    • @andersandkaitlin
      @andersandkaitlin  2 роки тому +1

      We understand there are strong emotions connected to Belgian fries, and that Frites Atelier is from Dutch chef Sergio Herman and not authentic Belgian fries. We get it. But they still reign supreme for us compared to all other fries we tasted. :)

    Cool video, just wanted to share a critique on the editing from an amateur perspective. The "my name is Nick Bril, and this is the Jade," line seems like a pretty great opportunity for B-roll highlighting what the Jade is. Tell us visually. As we see Nick introducing himself in the video, the footage is of the rooftop (which is in fact not _the_ Jade, really), and then we cut to Nick talking. Maybe start with Nick saying the first clause, and then on "Jade" in "and this is the Jade," cut to B-roll of the restaurant, ideally with shots of Nick in his Chef's clothes showing off his restaurant. Long visuals, slightly slowed video, good music. Could play with Nick providing exposition over-top the B-roll, something sequential, or a more mixed approach. I understand you have to work with the footage you have, of course, but that segment just felt a little disjointed to me. All I am is a critic though.

    • @andersandkaitlin
      @andersandkaitlin  2 роки тому

      Hey. Thanks for the input. Not sure I understood everything, but our challenge when making videos is that we very much shoot from a guest's perspective in the restaurant. We don't have a crew that can run around getting B-roll from everywhere. We also have very limited time to interview the chefs usually. Nick was super busy during the World's 50 Best awards this week. On top of that, a lot of unexpected stuff happened, like the whole rooftop part which was part of a group tour they organized. We had no intel on what they planned to do up there, and didn't really capture as much of that as we would have wanted. I'd argue that it is technically part of the restaurant, though, since it functions as their garden, but I can see why it would be confusing.

      That's just incorrect. At this restaurant, it's all about flavors, cooking skills, and creating a great atmosphere for guests. A lot of people who eat at The Jane and similar restaurants around the world are just passionate about food, and not necessarily very rich.
