    Where can I get a tool box set up like that? Those panels are sick. I just ordered a Pelican 1535 Air and have plans to do something very similar. Super jealous of what you have going on

    Yes, it looks outstanding! Now the cost of perfection 7000.00 imo, based off me getting custom cases with inserts done by laser to include the tools.

    Jason, did he say what the panels are? A certain thickness of ABS or carbon?

      Those are custom sized CF panels with a gloss finish. You can see its a CF sheet when he has the bottom panel flipped up. No way are they ABS because a thin ABS panel would not be nearly stiff enough for a panel sheet that size to attach foam and tools too. It would want to flex like mad even with the aluminum borders he has fitted to each sheet. Plus, to get an ABS sheet thick enough to be adequately stiff for this application you'd be looking at two sheets that weigh probably +10lbs combined just by themselves and they'd each have to be at least 1/4 inch thick which just eats up space inside the box forcing you to use thinner layers of foam to hold the tools. Totally stupid for what is supposed to be a mobile toolbox. The CF panels look like they are 2-3 millimeters thick. Assuming the case is roughly 36x14 inches (which is what it looks like) two CF 2mm thick 34x12 gloss finished panels would run you around $400-500 minimum. CF panels are not cheap! Add in the cost of the case (probably $150-200), and the cost of the struts, the foam, and the magnets and you are looking at a case with material costs alone that easily approaches $1,000. If it's a Pelican case it's a guaranteed +$1,000 material cost case. And that does not include the custom aluminum black edge you can see he has attached to the CF panels that surround the edges of the foam on the two sheets. A custom aluminum job like that for two 34x12 inch borders (assuming about a 1 inch height) will run you at least another $200-300 assuming you can find a local metal worker to do that for you at that price which I doubt most can. It's a really cool case, but completely unrealistic for any non-professional non-traveling mechanic. If some amateur were to build such a case they are doing it far more for their ego and ego filling bragging rights than actual practicality. For the cost of the materials alone of that case you could have pretty much bought all the tools and a sensibly priced case that any non-pro home mech would ever need and have several hundred dollars left over. That's reality, but it is a cool case indeed. :-)
