    This video has been so helpful! I've been doing EPP for a few months now, and I wish I'd known about glue basting so long ago! I just purchased this exact brand of glue and was looking for a good tutorial on using the glue pen. I'm doing 1" hexies, so it's nice to know that the glue works with the smaller pieces as well. Thank you!

    Using this glue, yes, the papers are easy to remove after the glue has dried. If you glue and then try to peel up the fabric right away, the glue is stickier. The glue is really dry after a few hours, maybe less. I haven't timed it.

    My papers don't get all holey like that, I don't puncture the paper when stitching around.

    • @jobrown70
      @jobrown70 3 роки тому

      Either do I. That would take forever. I don’t even take all stitches out at the end..only the necessary to get the paper out!

    The Sewline pen is great I agree, however if doing a king size quilt using 1.75 size hexagons it becomes very costly. They do not really go that far. However as I say they are quick and very good.

    • @BeckyGoldsmith
      @BeckyGoldsmith  2 роки тому

      That is true. Glue is faster and it works, but basting the shapes with needle and thread is not at all expensive and that works as well. It is, however, slower. We all get to choose which way suits us best and it’s nice to have choices.

      @@BeckyGoldsmith tried both I agree both good. Yes needle and thread are a lot slower, but in some ways easier. So I think I will use both in the future. Fairly new to EPP. Have used the Prym glue for ages, however in smaller quantities. Hehe

    What is the difference between the glue pen and a regular glue stick besides the price?

      I’ve used both. Glue pen is smaller area. School glue washable works but it’s bigger area.

    I have a question and I hope you can help me. I am new at this but I put to much glue on the paper. When I went to take the paper out it was glued to the paper and it is almost impossible to take out. It will not pop out. I used Elmer's glue washable. Can I use mist water. I have done a lot of them.

    • @BeckyGoldsmith
      @BeckyGoldsmith  2 роки тому

      Yes, I think you are going to have to try misting first. If that doesn't work, I would very carefully soak what you have sewn and gently, with a pointy tool, loosen the seam allowances from the papers. The papers will be ruined, but there you go. Lay the work flat on one or more towels to dry. Keep an eye on it to be sure no colors run. Do your best to keep it in shape as it dries and maybe coax seam allowances in the direction you want them to go. Once dry, you might want to carefully press.
      And then promise yourself that you will never do that again. Always use a very light hand with the glue.

    Hi Becky
    Are the Hexies easy to remove without distorting the fabric. That's what has worried me about glueing.

    Hi! What's the larger pattern/design you show towards the end?

    • @BeckyGoldsmith
      @BeckyGoldsmith  2 роки тому

      That is Spring Wheels. It is a pattern designed for foundation paper piecing. I used the template shapes for EPP. The digital pattern includes both the foundation paper and EPP shapes.

    I am in the process of making the Insanity hexagone quilt, and have started stitching my hexies - I want to get as many ready, before piecing. My question - how long does the glue hold together? It will probably be months before I am ready to piece my first one. I'd hate to glue and find out that 6-12 months from now, all of the hexies come apart before I can even piece together. Thanks for a great video!!

      I have some hexes on the wall that I glued weeks ago and the glue is still holding. (I used it lightly. Don't overdo it or you'll have problems removing the papers.) Every now and then I have to touch up the glue, but not often. Hope this helps!

    The glue method is fine but I found it not practical for smaller sized pieces. It was really fiddly to remove the papers for me so I tend to use the stitching way as my preferred method. It is best for larger sizes of templates. I found the glue is great for holding templates ono the fabric whilst I sew around them though.

    • @BeckyGoldsmith
      @BeckyGoldsmith  5 років тому

      I agree. Glue has its place, as does thread basting. I use both methods.

    I always thought with paper piecing you have to iron your pieces before sewing??? I am a brand new piecer lol I wouldn't think ironing over glue would be sensible though? thoughts?

    • @BeckyGoldsmith
      @BeckyGoldsmith  10 років тому

      Whether you glue or thread baste, you don't really need to iron the pieces. And, yes, it is harder to remove the glue-basted fabric if you don't iron it. Also, you don't need to use a lot of glue.
      It's actually a good idea to try the glue on a few pieces and see what you think.

    will the glue work with the reusable (not paper) templates?

    • @BeckyGoldsmith
      @BeckyGoldsmith  3 роки тому

      Probably, but I can't promise since I have not used them. Just so you know, the papers can be reused several times, especially if you are nice to them.

    Please tell me how to prepare hexagon paper shape like that?

    • @BeckyGoldsmith
      @BeckyGoldsmith  4 роки тому +1

      Hi Diem: You can buy them already cut to size, I have some on my website but if you google 'paper hexagons' you should find many options. You can cut them yourself, by hand, from card stock. Or you can buy a special punch tool to cut them.
