    Please, be VERY careful how you approach parents and what you say. Also, please don't say anything in front of children. Since kindergarten, almost every teacher said, "She's bright but doesn't apply herself and doesn't do homework" (my report cards were dismal). Just one more hit to my self esteem (in front of everyone) that my mother could finish off when I got home, basically telling me what a worthless POS I am. At home I was told that I was awkward, which was why I was enrolled in ballet school because I couldn't walk right (not true). My hair was too thin, I was fat (also not true) and I was too stupid to tie my own shoes in one afternoon at age four--I was being screamed at, just like I was screamed at when I couldn't "get" my math homework, so why bother. As far as ACEs, I had almost all of them. So, please, please, don't become part of the problem, people like me have enough problems.
