There another problem with the ship. If you take the new droid hole that was installed after the fact, there a big problem. At 3:21, if you pause the video, you can see there is no way for the droid to get into its socket. The Third Engine is in the way. And it can only go from under, since that is what we saw in the prequels, and in the show.
It feels like a mid-series crisis
personally I think that din djarin shooed have a crossover ship that has speed and flexibility, durability including agility also epic firepower a ship of both old and new mixed together.
😉🙃🙂
Too bad the replacement wasn't the YT-2400 or YT-1210.
My hope is that Din later get a ship that can house the N1, Where he can used said ship to travel to other planets and park it in orbit hidden while he descend to the planet in the N1, to prevent it from being bomb from orbit like his last ship
Yea, really feels like Mando needs to get a bigger ship that can carry the N1 aboard or docked to it and use it like an armed shuttle, not a primary ride.
You read my mind ! I totally agree. Was already thinking about what ship would fit with this idea. Maybe something where the N-1 can dock in such a way that the cockpit and the bubble canopy sit inside a small bay, or airlock, (for ingress and egress) but where you could use the engines, and maybe the torpedo launcher and blasters, as auxiliary propulsion and weapons ?
I totally agreed with you. He need another ship, while keeping the N1.
Perhaps something similar like Luthen's ship from Andor show, but large enough to store N1 inside.
yeah using the N1 as a sort of self escort fighter detaching from a "mothership" would be great but probably a bit of an overkill for a character that is used to kinda scavenge for resources
He would need a new crewmember for that. Perhaps the whole Covert can get a big mothership?
It's alright. Not the best not the worst. Ideally though a good hero ship can fit at least half a dozen passengers inside. How else can the hero rescue folks.
I miss Dinns old ship, that was the perfect bounty hunter ship, its either that or he gets his own slave-1 like Boba, heck even Bo Katan ship looks and is functionally cooler and better suited for the job, instead my man got a last gen star fighter with very little space like how the heck is he gonna bounty hunt if he ain't got space to store the hunt on that tiny a55 naboo fighter, like I'd prefer if that fighter was just an auxiliary ship whenever he gets challenged to a dog fight, like he could just have it towed or stored in a freighter ship of his own like I bet you could store that in a millennium falcon with how small that is
@@traphimawari7760 to be fair even though the chassis so to speak is old, it's so upgraded that it doesn't matter. It's got the speed and firepower to outmatch the current fighters. Also to be fair you're right, it's got 1 seat beside the pilot's that's always going to be filled by either grogu or an astromech. So there is no where to put a bounty or another bounty hunter for a 2 man job. Like if he actually got that IG unit working where would he put it? It's just not practical as a bounty hunter's ship.
@@traphimawari7760 Good luck with that the plans to the Firespray patrol class ships were destroyed and the prototype production run all destroyed by Jango Fett as he wanted a unique and highly capable ship. The sole reaming Firespray was already illigeal as hell to own once it was upgraded and pimped out by Jango it was hyper illigal and could land you into a cell on post republic and even some Hutt world's the only thing making that not happen was Jango being really hard to capture or kill as his Mando heritage.
"rescue" XD
@@traphimawari7760 The N1 in the Mandalorian is the equivalent of a Douglas A-1 Skyraider being flown during the Vietnam War. Mando needs to consistently prove he’s the better pilot.
The problem with the N-1 is that it actively limits the kind of stories that can be told by forcing him to be separated from everyone. The Millennium Falcon is such an iconic hero ship specifically because it was just the right size and scale to allow for nearly any kind of story you could think up from a galaxy-spanning Winnebago road trip to an intimate conversation between 2 people over dinner to a frantic space battle with enemy starfighters swarming like insects in all directions.
I’m hoping, when Mando crosses paths with that pirate lord again, he walks away with his ship. It was roomy without being too big, had a hanger that could carry a small number of fighters & looked like it didn’t require much of a crew to operate, even less if he automates the ball turrets.
We do see this much in promo material, the gauntlet loaded to bear with jumping mandos, and more pirates in the streets of navaro. It may not be to much of a stretch to say mandos are able to claim the prime pirate vessel as a roving covert.
Hmmm. Could be the Children of the Watch take it over... would make a good mobile base for the clan.
Gorian Shard is his name, I believe. That ship looked to be about the size of a Gozanti-class I believe, maybe a little bigger.
@Forrest Edgar personally I thought it looked closer in size to the imperial raider
@@TehAsianator definitely closer to a corvette size than a gozanti, I think.
I hope his next ship will have a storage area for the N1, kind of like the Swordfish II on the Bebop. Like a good combo of a mothership and a small fighter.
I don't watch the show, but this is my take on things too. Slightly larger than the Razor Crest (and maybe slower) with most of action requiring the N1 to come out of storage. The new ship could be a bit more of a tank making it a sort of safehouse for the N1 once it gets back there.
Maybe they steal that Pirate ship?
Modified Gozanti?
Ok, THAT is a good idea.
Ok, not gonna lie, I would burst out laughing if your prediction came true😂. More-so because I’m a fan of the Bebop series.
I'm surprised no one else seems to have thought of the fact that with being associated with Bo-Katan, Din could get his hands on a ship of Mando design, just like she pilots
Except that mandalorian society has basically collapsed, there's no one building Mando ships anymore. Bo was out there stealing ships from imperial warlords to try to build a new fleet, she wouldn't have had to do that if she had access to a pool of mandalorian vessels.
@@AlRoderick She was also assuming the surface of Mandalore was uninhabitable and basically completely destroyed... Which isn't the case. There could be various ships still on the surface, and since she was royalty she might know some locations ships were securely stored.
@@JerreyRough if a city didn't survive the fusion rays I doubt a ship that size did.
@mandoad1841 plenty of buildings looked like they structurally survived. There is plenty of chance something inside a building survived, or survived just barely enough to get back to Pelli and be fixed
@@AlRoderick theres probably some on the moon, unless they bombed that too.
The ship actually did meet one of his big requirements, it was preimperial so it couldn't be tracked the way other shops were which is why I think he settled for it.

To me, the ship is a side grade. It's not nearly as roomy but I just love how it's basically Mando's big mid-life crisis hot rod. Plus, it makes for fun action scenes. I'd like a bigger ship eventually, though
fitting comparison. i mean it even has that chromed and exposed boomer air filter plate just slapped on top the front
Good take. This comment seriously made it easier to accept. Stuff like that can kinda bother me so thank you
He needs a ship with a hanger deck so he can have both
What if he gets a firespray model like Boba👀there’s gotta be at least one more out there rn
Edit: now that I think about it more, Bobas Slave 1 wouldn’t be so iconic if another had one
It's like Luke's x-wing in Empire Strikes Back. He can fly with the other Hero ship Nightbrother (Gauntlet fighter) which fills the role of the aluminum falcon also in Empire Strikes Back.
The bit about the fighter being like a horse is very appropriate. Same way the x-wing is for Luke. Like a person on a hero jury quest to in the end find themselves which both characters are on.
The Crest wasn't just a ship -it was pretty much where he lived and so he was 'nomadic', you can't live in a N1; so he has to put down roots and get more entangled with people and their all their stuff.
All of which seems to be part of his 'heroic journey', so it's a symbol that he is done with being a nomadic bounty hunter.
Peli asked where Grogu was, she thought Din still had him.
Sure, but that doesn't mean that it makes sense for him to go from a transport to a dog fighter

I thought the N1 was a symbol of his transition from bounty hunter to leader/United of mandalore. That’s my interpretation of it, his destiny changed with the dark saber and now he is on a different quest,
Boy, how this comment aged badly :)
I adore the N1, but probably for the wrong reasons. It just screams that kind of “Knight Rider” or “Airwolf” energy that I makes it so impractical that I can’t help but love it.
I agree, the sheer audacity is exhilarating, but also Knight Rider had that big semi truck he'd drive into (if I remember correctly) that was sort of like a mobile base, and that's what feels like it's missing from the Mandalorian's current setup.
I think they’re gonna come up with a way to dock the N1 with Bo katon’s gauntlet. A parasite fighter like the phantom and the ghost. The N1 starfighter was originally supposed to be a parasite fighter for the big flying wing from the beginning of episode two. 7:35
More likely that he’ll take over Space Pirate Spinach’s ship and use that as a mobile base of operations.
No, the large ship from Episode 2 was designed to be able to transport its fighter escort after the events of Episode 1 showed it was needed.
@@CantankerousDave Agreed, but it will still likely need a dedicated transport shuttle. That or it will require a modified docking space, so Bo's gauntlet won't need to engage it's landing gear to dock/land.
@@26th_Primarch ye i mean, the N1 had been in Episode One and even if George can't count that well, 1 comes before 2
to bad we've only got that mentioned in the Cross Sections Book, but i guess it must looked a bit like the soviet parasite fighter project or the american Project Tom Tom
@@CantankerousDave boi do I got bad news
I feel the N1 is going to be scrap by the end of the season, but that is because the ship reflects the work Mando is apart of. The Razrocrest was awesome and I was sad to see it blown up, but it showed Mando was run down and messy on the inside. The N1 is showing where his world in now, its much smaller, because it only him and the Child. I am sure the next ship is going to be larger as he steps up into the role of a leader, or very least role model, for the new breed of Mandalorians.
He really needs a ship like the Slave I. Big, fast, and full of deadly surprises for unsuspecting foes.
@@Quadrenaro I totally agree but I also would love to see something new, or at least something we haven't seen before. Maybe they decide to revive an old Mandalorian design and Mando's ship is the first of its class.
The Nubian yacht that was first seen as Padme's ship in Attack of the Clones and most recently seen in Baby Yoda's flashback would have been both thematically and operationally perfect for Mando going forward. The Chromium armor of the yacht is similar to his beskar armor in that it is almost impervious to blaster fire and would have also, like you said given the two more of an upgraded minivan feel for Dad & Son activities.
I love this.
One possibility is that he ends up operating together with the other mandalorians off a larger ship (like the Gozanti they stole, or even Gideon's old cruiser), in which case the N1 would make a perfect little runabout for going off on his own occasionally.
I think this is another step in Mando no longer being a loner, and this new fighter will soon be camping out in a small landing bay on a larger hero ship that's home base for a team of people.
The N1 needs to be paired up with a larger craft that it can dock with and Din can then jump in during space combat.
Exactly, thinking something like the Swordfish II on the Bebop. (Cowboy Bebop)
Or maybe a hyperspace ring or module with extra room for storage etc
I'm thinking they'll storm and take over Gorian Shard's Corsair starship, aka the pirate king from the first episode.
- It specifically has a fighter launch bay on the top of the ship (look at the episode concept art at the end), which means Mando can dogfight a lot still.
- The fighter launch bay is very close to the bridge, so the Mandalorian can get to his ship very quickly if combat occurs.
- Mando's probably going to want to bring his people to Mandalore... Which now seems to be taken over by some Imperial remnant. Which means they need more firepower, and that Corsair would be a great leap forward for htat (assuming they're fighting TIE carriers/cruisers and no star destroyers).
Also, Gorian Shard's ship has a very detailed interior and looks like a real set... Which means there'll probably be more scenes in it. Whether they just fight/destroy it or take it over is uncertain, but taking it over seems like the logical choice.
The moment I saw the concept art at the end of S3 E1, I said, "I bet we're going to see that pirate frigate again. That dorsal hangar bay is perfect for the N1 and the bigger ship is perfect if they plan on taking Mando in the direction of being a leader with the Darksaber.
I have to wonder what's left of it after it crashed in the most recent Ep; it looked like it was blown to smithereens, but maybe the mando covert will patch it up and make use of it to protect their new home.
@@kauske Yea they're really going to need to buff out those scratches
@@chrism1519 "It's a little blown up, but it's still good it's still good!"
The N1 allowed the show's creators to add something the Razorcrest really couldn't: a bunch of awesome dog fight scenes throughout season 3.
I love them both. The Razorcrest was a fantastic design and I loved the history of it. The N-1 though has always been a favourite of mine, if not my favourite starfighter in Star Wars just because it is so beautiful and encapsulates a whole culture into it's aesthetic. I do wish they would give it all the panels on its tail though the broken nature of it annoys me
I'm with you on the fact that both ships are awesome in their own right. I love the X-Wing and N-1 so much mostly because of their respective video games that I played to death in my childhood. That being said, in no way is a fighter supposed to be used for long distance hyperspace travel without some sort of add-on pod that you can disconnect in orbit. The impracticality of sitting in a cockpit for days if not weeks on end is too much for me to handwave. Could you imagine doing a road trip in a single-seater Ferrari that you couldn't leave? How do you poop? Does Din just have a row of piss-bottles that he empties when he exits hyperspace? What about food storage? Is he eating MREs the whole time? What does he do with the garbage?
Most of the basic human/alien functions can be handwaved in normal hero ships that have a significant size as to not take away screen time. I don't need to see the toilet in the Millennium Falcon because it is large enough that I can assume it's there somewhere and the characters use it off screen. With fighters, any additional weight dedicated to ancillary systems reduces its combat ability. There is a reason why fighter pilots use diapers or urine packs while flying missions in real life and don't have full plumbing in say an F-35.
They should have just given him a bigger ship, or the better solution in my opinion: redesigned a hyperspace pod that can dock with the N-1 for FTL travel. Dump the pod in orbit, go to planet, have fighter battle, leave planet, attach pod, jump out. Easy.
@@0MJF0 You raise some valid points, would it be too much to ask to have the N1 dock with a larger mothership? As we know the tail acts as a docking module, but it might become a bit excessive with too big of a ship for one person. While the issues are hard to ignore, I do keep reminding myself that at the end of the day sometimes its best to ignore the practicalities and just enjoy it for what it is
@@benhooper1956 That is true, sometimes you can't let the practicalities get in the way of a good story. To be honest, there are other instances in Star Wars films where fighters travel greater hyperspace distances and they seem fine doing so.
Luke takes his X-Wing to Dagobah after the Rebels lose their base on Hoth. This is more out of necessity than actual intent to travel the galaxy in a fighter imo. The Rebels had very few ships remaining and Luke wanted to find Yoda asap. The second instance that comes to mind is when Obi Wan takes his Jedi Starfighter to Kamino in episode 2. Here he intentionally left in a small combat fighter that didn't even have a hyperdrive to find a planet that had been removed from the records. This fighter needed a hyperspace ring for FTL travel and is what sparked my idea of making hyperspace pods. These would be a less complex version of your mothership idea.
The larger, worldbuilding issue that arises when stating that fighters are fine for FTL trips is that you basically reduce the size between planets. Luke trained in the Force for a significant time on the Millennium Falcon in his trip from Tatooine to Alderaan, yet Obi Wan feels comfortable in taking a fighter from Coruscant all the way to Kamino. Distances should be adhered to so the world feels real and for the stakes to matter. I just get less invested when the decisions are made on what would trigger the most nostalgia or sell the most toys, rather than in universe realities or character motivations.
I agree completely about it feeling like a stop gap. It really seems like a mid life crisis style hot rod that is around because he's in a transitionary period and isn't sure what exactly he is doing yet.
For me, the fact they've never bothered to getting around to cover the exposed parts of the ship with panels has been extremely on-the-nose with how it's just been a stop-gap ship. I get that Din isn't the most affluent guy or one concerned with aesthetics, but having the engines partially uncovered seems like an awfully easy way to those engines damaged by FOD.
I do think he needs a new, really big ship to reflect his status as the sort of new Mandalore maybe. Maybe he can find some really old Mandalorian Crusader frigate and fix it up so he and the Covert can stay mobile and never really get caught with their pants down again, which would also nicely reflect the Mandalorians' original nomadic nature before they settled the planet that would become Mandalore.
What I think Mando needs is a larger vessel that can hold the N1 in an N1-sized cargo bay. The Crest was a fantastic ship and liked its vibe more but a Crest sied transporter with an extra docking bay or something would add a lot of versitality to what Mando can do
My biggest gripe is that it is not a bounty hunter's ship, which is what Djarin was doing before Grogu came along, and presumably what he'd return to doing after. There's virtually no room for supplies, let alone a prisoner's holding cell.
But he's not a bounty hunter anymore
I believe the point of the n1 is that he has to move past bounty hunting as even his source for bounties on nevaro is now a school.
You can bounty hunt locally
I guess he just says “I can bring you in cold”.
@@TeddIdle34 He still travels and that ship ain't supporting that very well. And he did mention wanting a ship like the Razor Crest.
Initially i thought it was a bad idea, it was too fancy and too small because he needed a ship he could live in and carry bounties, but it Really grew in me. The upgrades and what not making it such a great weapon and fun to watch sold me on it.
I enjoyed the Razor and miss it. As you point out it was not only a means of getting from point A to point B it was a location unto itself. I hope the writers bring a larger ship into the show again.
There's actually another shiny Naboo ship that is quite similar to the razer crest in a lot of ways but is a bit smaller than the massive quad engine flying wing you show in the video. It is even shown during Grogu's flashback in the latest episode.
Don't tell anyone but that ship showing up in the flashback is why we didn't include it in this video.
- hoojiwana from Spacedock
Theres actually ANOTHER Shiny Naboo ship that is larger than the N-1 and Smaller than the Diplomatic Barge. The Skiff from Episode 3. It even has weapons already.
That is a luxury yacht, is something more like what padme rolled in on in episode 2 of the prequel
The N1 is to represent the end of Mando's bounty hunting phase and to represent the closeness between mando and grogu. Most of the things that the Razorcrest could accomplish (such as bringing multiple people for team missions) are now delegated to Bo's ship.
This might show that the future of Mando is him delegating tasks to other people, or being more cooperative than he was in the past where he would do one mission with a couple people, then leave them behind to do a solo mission, then do another mission with different people. If he's going to lead the mandalorians, they could make mandalore their home base, or if they get a large capital ship, he would just land his n1 in its hangar.
I think the show is trying to tell us very clearly that he isn't going to end up being the leader. Look at how easily Bo Katan wielded the Darksaber compared to everyone else who touched it. She flung it around like a Jedi would. She was the one who saw the Mythosaur, not Din. She was the leader of the war party to rescue the child, not Din or Vizla (Whose first name escapes me in this moment.) I think the big arc of Season 3 is shaping up to be actually about Bo Katan Redeeming herself and getting in touch with her own roots. All of which I think may be a storytelling mistake, but Bo Katan is one of Dave Filoni's darlings, and he's kind of shown an attachment problem with them over the years.
@@irishguy051 I mean Bo Katan had wielded the Darksaber before and thus got experience with it, and her mind is clear enough about her goals that she can connect with it better. Din has shown countless times that he has no interest to be a leader, has some doubts about what he truly wants and he's only holding it cuz Mandalorian tradition dictates he must keep it until he is challenged and defeated for the right to wield it.
Season 3 could be about the Mandalorians learning to see beyond their old, varied beliefs that had divided them in the past to unite once more for a better future for themselves
I always feel like it's really awkward to own just a fighter sized ship. Like fighters with hyperdrive always seem to fall into a few roles; rapid attack missions like we often see x-wings go on with a jump in blow stuff up and then leave, errands like we see Obi-Wan use his Jedi Starfighter for in the second film and the third mission which seems to be escorting larger ships and being combat ready as soon as you exit hyperspace which we see the N1 do in episode 2.
It feels really awkward to have a ship like that be your home base. You can't even pull the seat back and recline it to take a nap. It actually feels like they've tried to fill the hole of him not having a space RV anymore by having Bo-katan's ship Fill that role
I think the modified N-1 fits the transition from Bounty Hunter to Questing Knight archetype. The next step up for Din might not be a bigger ship, but a small fleet. The Mandalorian style of independence, and everybody being combat capable fits well with this setup. He also might end up with a fixed location as "home", which means he won't need storage space on his ship.
Razor Crest was suitable for his past occupation as a bounty hunter. He's now waging war with a small team of warriors where stealthy, agile, and lethal are necessary to compensate for their small numbers as they rally together their fragmented sects scattered across the galaxy. N-1 wasn't some temporary gimmick--it perfectly fits the practical needs dictated by the plot.
I think that it would be interesting if Mando got something akin to the Bebop from Cowboy Bebop. Something that can be a mobile hub (if not home) that can handle long-range travel and a mobile lifestyle like Din has while also letting him keep the N-1 "in the garage" so to speak until it's needed.
My thoughts exactly! Love the mothership and small ship dynamic of CB!
You guys keep describing the god damn Razorcrest
Sorry for my bad language
I’d like to see Din able to keep the N1 while eventually acquiring a proper successor to the Razor Crest. I’m a little surprised that the Imperial light cruiser wasn’t claimed as salvage by either Din or Bo as it would have made an outstanding set piece to return to in the future.
I initially questioned the move to such a small ship. We the fans don't really have a say. This is Favreau and Filoni's baby. I trust what they are doing. So far the N1 has worked.
It would be so cool to see such an iconic ship be transformed into what is essentially a touring bike with a camper hooked to it, but I like both ships as is for very different reasons. If I had to choose one, it's the Razorcrest I love and it's honestly just down to how practical it is.
I personally love this ship in isolation, it’s a hotrod, an elegant but outdated ship that’s been grotesquely modified much like my own car. But as a hero ship it’s definitely lacking, the silhouette isn’t unique to the character and as you mentioned, the character of the Razor Crest was effective.
It's a great design, but not for Din.
- hoojiwana from Spacedock
Thing is the N1 is a fighter the razor crest was a more useful vessel he had a carbon freeze chamber for imprisoning bounties.
I feel like as Mando continues to gather others to the Mandalorian covert and becomes the new Mandalore he'll get a bigger ship as his "base" and then he can use the N1 similar to the way Spike uses the Swordfish 2 when he's not on the Bebop
I do miss the Razorcrest, but I feel like this is a realistic downgrade after having your main hero ship blown up and you are a lone bounty hunter with money problems.
Yes, to downgrade from a run down patrol craft/gunship used by hundred of systems around the galaxy for system defense against pirates, to a handmade fighter craft that was only used by the royal house of a single planet and built in the dozens... what a downgrade for someone with money problems.
@@lordhoskTrue, but the ship looked more like it belonged in a junk pile than a royal fleet when Din got his hands on it.
Wouldn't be surprised if it ended up on Tatooine because it was being used by Sabé and it got blown up by slavers or something.
So... bets on Mando getting a remixed Legends ship, like say... the Outrider?
While the N1 definately has issues, I think it’s fairly in line with the current shift in story focus. Din Jaran is now much more closely associated with broader mandalorian society - the kind of people and support system that would allow him to get away with a dedicated fighter instead of a larger multipurpose. He no longer NEEDS a ship that is its own location, because he has another home location. In this situation switching to a more dedicated fast-transit/combat spacecraft is a logical decision.
It's a delightful fighter and it suits Din well - but he would certainly need a bigger ship for living in, something the fighter could attatch to, or land in.
Also: man, it would be so cool if he got his hands on one of those larger Naboo ships, I've loved every single of one of those designs.
Honestly Mando should get a G9 Rigger Freighter or a YT-1300 Freighter, or just another Razor Crest.
I'd like to see him with something a little bigger, maybe big enough to stash the N1 inside. Perhaps the whole tribe could amble around in a Gozanti, or something similar.
I actually think the change of ship fits the change in character that we're seeing Din go through. He's not a bounty hunter anymore; he's becoming a (gasp) protagonist!
I think he should get one of those Kom'rk-class fighters at some point. Fast and maneuverable, though not as much as the N1, but way more space inside for other stuff and is also, you know, mandalorian.
7:30 I wonder if that H-Type Nubian Yacht we saw in S3E4 will come in to play here
Well, yes obviously it is
personally, I was stoked about this ship. Fits the hero-roll well, as we've seen in the episodes. Saves Bo Katan, saves the children of the watch etc. It makes him unique with a one-of-a-kind fighter while it also plays well with nostalgia for all fans. The way everything builds up makes for an excellent space battle in coming episodes. His role as a bounty-hunter has surpassed as he's now looking to join up with the other mandos, where his ship, an excellent fighter, provides an essential ability for protecting/fighting with them. The Razer crest, RIP, suited who he used to be, not who he has become. Din will in some way or form, be a part of shaping the new Mandalorian society. Wether it is him as the new mandalore, grogu or bo katan, he will be a part of it, and mandalorians are not bounty hunters that need cargo vessels, mandalorians are fighters that has resolved to do bounty hunting in lack of other more crucial tasks (such as restoring Mandalore and unifying the mandalorians scattered across the universe *cough cough*). And with this season building up for another imperial incursion (Thron or Gideon) he will need a fighter jet to come at them. Not a bulky roomy rapevan for hauling bounties around.
The winning take, I agree completely!
Definitely one of those this is for now ships. I believe somewhere down the line he will get a more reliable ship. This isn't the family ship it's just that hot rod and right now that's all he needs in the moment.
what would surprise me is that if they give him a new big ship, it's a old Legends ship brought back to canon, like one of the other YT models that aren't the 1300 (Falcon) or 2400 (Outrider). heck, it could probably even be the Quadjumper from Force Awakens
It's definitely a bad bounty hunter ship. Where the hell do you put the bounties?

I love that N1. Its such a sleek design and has a style about it. I never grew to care that much about the Razorcrest as I did the characters who piloted it.
I know a lot of people want a bigger ship with the N1 aboard. I agree. I still think it had to come in this order so that Din is storing HIS ship rather than upgrading from the razor crest. Otherwise it would seem more like more like a contrived toy added in just-so, since it . The short comings then actually work as a more natural plot device to end up with the ship in ship set up instead of having to really nerf the carrier ship to need the N1 to complete missions. Now everything can have it's place and purpose and seem to have occurred naturally.
100% agreed, I really hope they give Mando another ship soon, this just felt unrealistic from the moment he got it
Yesss
I quite liked the Razor Crest for what it was. It fit the story that was being told at the time and it was in a sense a physical representation of who Din was as a character. It was a big practical minivan in space. It wasn’t anything special. It didn’t draw attention. It was falling apart and didn’t have a clear direction it needed to go to get itself figured out. But now Din has evolved as a character and the ship he flies represents the person he is becoming. It’s a ship displaced in time from a lost, romanticized era. It represents the return and evolution of a forgotten honor. It might not have the same utility that the Razor Crest had but it has a sense of purpose about it. It is a vehicle to swiftly carry Din to his destiny, perhaps faster than he anticipated. To me it falls into the X-Wing type of hero ship rather than the Millennium Falcon type. Does it make as much realistic, practical sense to travel the Galaxy in a starfighter with one seat and no toilet? Maybe not. But it’s an archetype that’s been established in Star Wars for a long time.
Wouldn't be surprised if Din has a new ship next season.
I firmly believe the Mando needs his own Version of the Hounds Tooth!!! 🤠👍
It's mainly a bad hero ship for a nomadic hero. If Din were based on Mandalore or Nevarro, or wherever, he could take the N1 out on adventures and then come home and it would be fine. Luke's X-Wing was perfect for that.
But the N1 is just too small to feel like a home base unto itself, which is essentially what the show is currently forcing it to do.
Definitely prefer the Razor Crest, but I don't think the writers put as much effort into thinking about Mando's ship as you did, lol. To them its something to get from point A to point B. Mando was a bounty hunter so he needs a bigger ship to cart his bounties around. Mando is now NOT a bounty hunter and so lets hit up the fans with some memberberries and throw them an N1!! That's pretty much what was said in the writers room, you know it.
honestly I think, even though things fell a bit into place, that this ship is perfect for what he´s currently doing as, using the crest, he would´ve been dead at least two times in the ongoing season
When they first brought in the N1 I thought it was so they could force him out of the ship for stories... Make him stay at local venues, limit his arsenal... But nah seems like it was just to sell toys.
Totally agree. I've always hated the N1 design and when it was offered to Din, I couldn't believe he accepted it. The Razor Crest, like you said, was an instant classic.
Far far more practical, and just a hands down better ship for his needs. I really hope he gets rid of the N1 sooner rather than later.
It bothered me from the moment it was chosen that it has virtually none of the functionality of the Razor Crest. It's disappointing that a character introduced as a bounty hunter can't do that because his ship hold another character.
That being said, the design throwback and its customization are appealing and it's cool to see it in action.
I suspect the increasing references to Naboo are intentioned. This was the first that was so overt that we missed it's potential significance
the idea of strapping a ton of reinforced bags to a mid-range fighter to convert it into a space-horse or motorbike is pretty cool, now that I've heard somebody point it out.
I might add that idea to one of some of my own writing one day, although the characters I have that the idea is most fitting fly something closer to a space-campervan at the moment, since they go pretty long distances with it and travel takes a while.
Yeah, it's awful. You can't hold any prisoners, haul any cargo, store any weapons you're not using. All it is is fast, agile, and nimble.
The Razor Crest was better. May it rest in peace. And in pieces.
At least one other Star Wars hero ship was lost in action = The Twilight, the G9 freighter Anakin captured in the Clone Wars theatrical film and was used throughout most of the TV series, only to be shot down by Death Watch on Mandalore in season 5.
When he first got the N1, my first thought was "whoa memberberries" followed quickly by "where does he store the bounties he is going after?"
I do like the ship overall,, but I don't like the exposed parts where they left armor plates off. That's a nightmare from a maintenance standpoint. Rebel Y-wings did it because they already had to do constant maintenance on them, and they weren't flying by themselves to different planets with changing and even hostile/damaging environments. It also makes the tail look asymmetrical, which i think detracts a little from the sleek style.
They should've had Din pick up a light freighter like the millennium falcon or the ebon hawk. Maybe pick up a shitbox that he could upgrade as the series goes on?
The N1 could've been attached to the bigger ship that Din could pop into when needed?
Razor Crest is a ship for a loner. Covert or no covert, lone wolf bounty hunter is what Din does and how he lives. The new N-1 is by definition and design a vessel for a member of a larger team - a fighter that departs from a base or a carrier, does its job and comes back to some TLC for a machine and community for a pilot. Curious to see if this will come true in the narrative.
I wanted him to get a YT-2400. I just like it, and it would let him have a fair bit of space
I actually wonder if other complaints stirred this end result. What I mean by this is that I could see the 'Old West' feel mixed with the Razorcrest having people, rightfully or not, comparing it to Firefly or something along those lines and thus to break that they went to something more traditionally star wars with the N1. Just a thought
In my D6 campaigns, I had a bounty Hunter PC that wanted a fighter, and I talked him out of it for many of the reasons you listed. The only exception is if the fighter is a true snub fighter and is carried by a larger, more hospitable craft.
There is a good way to argue this. My brother managed to take a $500 van that was busted and broken down. In a couple years, he completely rebuilt the interior to the point that it was a luxury hotel inside it (running water, heaters, refrigerator, appliances, etc) and completely fixed the engine. The van was never intended as a moving hotel room, but it serves its role nonetheless. If Din Djarin wants to turn his fighter into a moving combat van, I'm sure there are ways to modify and rebuild it to further suit his needs. Even the Millenium Falcon was never intended as some heavy starfighter/combat transport, but some elbow grease and countless modifications can do wonders.
In my opinion, there's definitely a craft more suited for this idea of "Din's in an old starfighter that tickles nostalgia neurons". Imagine if, instead of a souped-up N-1, it was an old ARC-170 fuselage. True, it's still going to be cramped, but there would at least be a little bit more room to move about in. Like taking the back row of seats out of a conversion van, the interior could be modified to have a small cot for Din and some storage for rations and Grogu's floating pod. Might not be the best craft for bounty-hunting, but as a horse analogue in a space western, it'd probably be a better fit.
Excellent analysis. You voiced pretty much all my own reservations about the N-1. I worry they're going to stick with it for the duration, mostly because you don't see Mando dealing with or muttering about ANY of the flagrant shortcomings you mentioned. Anyway, RIP Razor Crest!
The N1 for Mando is like driving a dedicated track car as your daily driver. Mando needs a a bigger ship for anything than short intersystem jumps. I think Din’s next ship is going to be much bigger and hold all the members of the Children of the Watch as they work to reestablish the Mandalorian on Mandalor. Then the N1 can live in its hanger and be fighter support.
it feels like a plaster on a cut of leg, or somphing that will be docked up in a slightly lager ship
A hero needs a home base. It used to be the Razorcrest when he was a loner bounty hunter who's actual home base was literally kept secret from the outside world, but now that he's operating as a mando in part of a much larger group in the public's eye, his 'home base' doesn't thematically need to be a light freighter anymore technically, but I still miss it. Wouldn't mind him getting his hands on a mando transport though, those things are pimp
I think something like an ARC-170 that was modified to remove the Bomb bay for more storage would have made more sense story wise, Mando would be able to carry enough for his trips, be reasonably agile, but at the same time he wouldn't be able to take everything with him, meaning story wise there could be some really cool story arcs where the let's say vehicle, even if just a light vehicle, would have to be left behind because there simply wasn't any room to take it with him and grogu.
I love both ships! He needs something big enough to dock the N1 with.
I'm glad they brought back the N-1, it has always been one of my favorite ships since playing SW: Starfighter on the PS2. The sound design is immaculate and is on par with Boba's Slave 1.
that Lamda class they landed into Gideon's light cruiser would've been nice. with some modifications, it might've worked. plus, Din fought so many enemies, he could've at least stolen one good freighter just like in SWTOR.
I was hoping you'd point out how Mando keeps wasting expensive proton torpedoes on small unshielded fighters for no reason, or how the astromech deployed impossibly straight through the bottom middle engine on Mandalore in episode 2 🤷
The late model clone wars LAAT had the ability to travel in space, it just didn't have a hyperdrive I think an LAAT with an installed hyperdrive would make a great replacement.
I'm hoping Din Djarin can get his hands on one of those "Gauntlets"! And I'd love seeing the Kom'rk customized by a) adding more weapons and b) downsizing the troop (drop) bay, freeing up some space for cargo or (better) living quarters... And - without fact-checking the measurements - maybe even a docking-clamp-thingy to store the N-1 under the belly for special occasions.
If the show goes on long enough, or has a time skip, that allows Grogru to grow up enough to properly fly a ship theirself. Perhaps the N1 will become Grogru's and they'll act as an escort for Din's new larger ship. It would be nice to see all these scenes where Din teaches them about piloting and navigating have a payoff beyond "Perform a one way trip to another moon within the same planetary system that you just visited minutes ago." Or perhaps they'll grow their own little group of Mandalorians, or at least Bounty Hunters, and the N1 will get passed off to someone else.
Also possible that whatever the next space craft is it'll be big enough the N1 could act as an auxiliary craft that can dock into it somehow when not in use. Though I doubt we'll get a ship that's so big that it'll have its own hanger bay that can act as a mobile garage.
Need to steal that big pirate freighter they showed early on. Mobile command center for the militant offshoot of the mandalorians, big enough for believable long term habitation, big enough to dock the n-1, plenty of guns.
J type star skiff modified to serve as a mother ship for the N1. Modify the aft section of the cockpit on the skiff to serve as a docking area. Add in two dorsal and ventral laser dome turrets and some forward mounted turbo lasers. Pre-Empire, all of the shiny of the crest and N1 and plenty of space to do bounty hunting stuff.
I wouldn't be surprised if that pirate capital ship from the first episode ends up in the hands of Din and the Mando cultists. It seemed way too detailed to be something that just shows up for ten seconds in a fly-by and is never seen again.
That would make a nice mobile covert for this sect of Mandalorians
You know what I think would have been great? An old republic LAAT gunship that's been modified.
It could hit a lot of the same notes as the N1, both Din and Grogu can have their separate bubbles, more than enough firepower, and nostalgia from the original movies.
It can fit all the roles of the N1 while still being able to be upgraded, them slowly bringing more and more weopon systems onlne. It has enough space to be lived in
The small ship fits into the studio with 360degree screens-they can do cool flight scenes with the full sized ship 'prop'. As for its place in lore (I kinda like it) as fast and agile given that Mando has a more classic hero storyline, rather than a freelancer.
I kind of like the N-1 in a certain context, it is still very much rough around the edges given there are massive sections of the internal components exposed. The Razor crest worked well as a mobile home when him and grogu had to live on the road as they searched for were Grogu belonged. Now that Din has been redeemed and Grogu has chosen to be a mandalorian they are able to have a more permanent home with the tribe. Going forward I think Din's ship situation will start to reflect his influence among the wider mandalorian groups, as he starts to attract more followers he might end up breaking form the tribe (either willingly or being forced out by the armourer) eventually get his hands on bigger ships (something like a light cruiser that can hold a good number of buddies and their starfighters) to the point that he'll make that ship into his base to make his own tribe (and maybe reclaim mandalore along the way) while the N-1 will become another weapon is his arsenal (and a damn effective one at that given how he's used it to tear apart pirates and imperials).
Yes he needs a larger mothership. But the N1 is my favorite star fighter design so I’m not complaining lol
I like both and they both serve a purpose for his journey. Saying one isn't good and doesn't fit him negates how he and the story have evolved.
I think the N-1 works for the stage of life that Din is in after Season 2.
He started his sequence in Book of Boba Fett completely alone, questioning his place in the galaxy despite the power that had been thrust upon him. He still struggles with the Darksaber because of this inner conflict.
The N-1 represents a desire to escape that power, to just use the boosters and jett past all the trouble that keeps catching up to him and Grogu. (Whether Grogu *should* be with him or not is another story, but I still think it works overall.)
I think he'll start to see the value of actual community in his relationship with Bo Katan, who just lost her home as well.
Despite being part of the Children of the Watch, Din is still very much a loner, and even being a more active part of that system seems like a lonely life (the campfire scene in chapter 20).
If he embraces his connection to Bo, I could definitely see the N-1 being a sub-craft to her ship like the Ghost and the Phantom.
Other than Galactica and Rocinante, there is one hero ship which I've _always_ believed is the finest example of the trope. Ketty Jay.
