My name is Bre. I took two years of small engine repair at the local college. When I left school, I fell into a wonderful job at a local small engine shop where I worked the counter for a couple years. In 2010 my husband and I opened up our own small engine shop in central Arkansas where I am able to work alongside my family and best friends. We see over 2,000 pieces of small engine equipment every year, and answer 1,000's of small engine questions. We specialize in brands such as Briggs and Stratton, Kohler, Echo and Shindaiwa, but work everyday on MANY other brands like Stihl, Husqvarna, Honda, Craftsman, Remington, Red Max, Troy Bilt, Scag, Bad Boy, Hustler, World Lawn, Poulan, Mantis, Etc.. Hopefully, my experience I share, will save you Time, Money and Frustration in the future!

I had a similar part for my kobalt mower break. I designed a new one in CAD and had it 3D printed in a glass filled nylon (home printing material isn’t strong enough). Works fantastic! I even improved the design. The part was not cheap to do this, but was way better then throwing the mower out because of a blade bracket.
as I was watching this video I had the same thought go through my mind of having a 3D printer fabric.
make yourself some money and start selling the part!
You should create one out of regular plastic, then sandcast it and make an aluminum part.
Damn shame you had to go through all of that for a simple, sacrificial part. And, why would the "shear pin" design tie it to a fan? I'm sure if you could locate this part it would be incredibly over priced.
Wonderful you could solve the problem! How about sharing with the rest of humanity and foster the collective good will?
The Lowe's extended warranty/service/replacement plan left us without a replacement, only a small settlement. Never another.
Same with my daughter and her fridge. I buy local whenever possible!
Buckeye Tool Supply seems to have that listed under GreenWorks Genuine OEM Replacement Blade, Bolt and Fan Kit Combo
I don't think I would ever own an electric mower. Hi Bre, I subscribed to your channel about a month ago and I have really enjoyed your videos. I noticed your link to 2 cycle oil at Amazon. I buy 2 cycle oil by the quart and pour 3 ounces into my 1 gallon gas can. I've often wondered just how critical the 50-1 mixture is. My wife and I just bought 2 acres out in the country in north Alabama. This weekend we went to the property to cut some weeds, brush, and small trees. We were about 14 miles from town at our property when I discovered I left the 2 cycle oil at home. Not wanting to make a 28 mile trip to town I decided to use some 30w bar and chain oil. Both my chain saw and weed eater ran very well. We ran 9 tanks of gas thru the two of them. Even at the end of the two days both still cranked on the first or second pull. I know you sell 2 cycle oil at your shop, but I can't help but wonder if plain 30w oil will or will not lubricate the motor just as well. Your thoughts are appreciated. Mick in Cullman Alabama.
I think you can make it work. Use a comparable mower part from a different company and make it fit on the shaft, make your own part or just put a couple bolts or something to hold the blade in place.
I believe it’s called a fan wheel. Green works makes kobalt mowers. Hope this helps you 👍🏼
So are you saying they are interchangeable and green works makes them?
I own a Kobalt mower and snow blower. They have been good, but I haven’t broken any parts. The manufacturer that makes Kobalt lawn equipment also makes Greenworks and it appears they also make Mastercraft mowers for Menards. I’m sure a lot of parts are interchangeable, but of course the retailers don’t care to let us know that.
I hope people don’t get the impression battery power isn’t good, I’d never go back to a gas mower, I have a small yard. More and more manufacturers are abandoning their customers when it comes to service after the sale. Seems worse if the item is made in China,
@@jazziez6467yes
@@jazziez6467 the battery packs are used in a number of brands, outward appearances are the same with the exception of the name and color of the plastic. There is one other thing, the packs have grooves that fit into corresponding “keys” in the equipment. The packs fit the same layout of the electrical contacts, but the keys prevent them fitting. There are videos of advice on how to modify the pack to make it fit a mismatch brand.
Too bad the industry doesn’t get together and make a universal standard the way other manufacturers used to.
@@mplsmark222 That would cut into their profits, and of course, they can't tolerate intelligent customers. I had a greenworks trimmer years ago, IIRC 20V. Purchased another greenworks 20v device, figuring that I would have multiple batteries which fit. NOPE. The batteries APPEAR to be identical, but one device's batteries had two metal fins on the connection sliders so that it couldn't be fit into the other machine. So I would have had to buy TWO MORE batteries, costing about the same as buying another machine. Same lithium batteries inside. I'll never purchase another device made by greenworks; I'd rather use an old manual gadget powered by elbow grease than ever give them another cent of my money. And here we have the same situation again' they want you to buy another new device, because they don't support their previously sold ones. Terrible company.
Ms. Bre, I always start by asking them for a Manual. Or see if you can find it online- and if that’s unsuccessful, even ask the owner if he has one. And as you know, that allows you to find a part number, which might improve your odds of finding the part. I know you know this, and I don’t mean to sound condescending, but I’ll guess most of your viewers don’t. Also, if I were the older gentleman (and I am at 79), I would call Lowe’s corporate headquarters and take my case to them- age is a great equalizer with getting a response! Of course, knowing the date of purchase and having a receipt would be best (and I do!). I’ll guarantee you that something will be done to quell his anger- after all, it’s all about brand! Love your channel and learn something new every program. Nice work.
Crazy thing is, the $600 machine has the weakest part as the most important part to cut grass.
I checked the owner's manual ( page 18) regarding the blade and the part Bre talks about is not even mentioned. It only offers a part number for the steel blade and not the plastic piece. Seems to me engineering needs to have a belated meeting with sales.
second most important part*
I'd argue the blade is the key component to grass cuts.

I had the same issue with Kobalt stuff in the past (portable table saw) and I got so frustrated that I finally spent money and replaced all of my stuff with better brands.
I also will never purchase another Ariens mower from Lowe's because they don't work on them or warranty them but referred me to a place in town and they won't touch it since I got it from Lowe's and not them. I have to take it on a trailer, over 75 miles when I needed something fixed under their "warranty." Never again.
Great video and another reason why I am sticking with my older mowers.
Thanks beautiful lady. Always listening, watching and learning.
I believe the part you need for the Kobalt is RCPW R0200742-00 from greenworks
Can't find it. Do you have a link?
You can make a replacement part with a 4" diameter narrow V-belt pulley (as on a small air compressor) with the same bore diameter as the motor shaft. Tighten the set screw on the flat of the shaft. Drill the pulley for two 5/16" aluminum bolts and match those to the blade. The aluminum bolts retain the 'mechanical fuse' function to prevent damage to the motor. Those fan blades really serve no purpose.
As a homeowner I might do that, as a repair business I wouldn't - if it failed, and worse if so done got injured when it did, you'd be risking getting sued.
I mean as so done mentioned just drill & tap some holes and use nylon screws to hold the blade (they still shear off if you hit something hard enough) - as a homeowner that's what I'd probably do to get it running for myself... As a business I wouldn't go near doing that for the liability reason.
The fan cools the motor by drawing fresh air down through the housing. Whether or not you need it until you upgrade the battery massively for extended run time I don't know
The ''fan'' is to help the mulch function. It stirs up the cut grass so that they get cut into smaller bits.
actually that fan is what keeps the electric motor from overheating. it is needed but this is a very cheap design and dumb as hell not having it on the parts list .
@@gamerX-wk7ct actually, considering the fact that it's a proprietary product, they want you to throw the old one away and buy a new $600 mower... I digress, we're the dumb ones for not practicing due diligence which would've showcased the fact that the motor fan/blade mandrel had no replacement parts and the customer would've bought a more repair-friendly unit.
If you get one, take it to a sand casting shop and have them make it with aluminum. Would be a great idea to make extras.
Or measure it and have someone with a 3d printer make a bunch.
@@thomasjoseph5876 Got a model number and maybe a picture or a link to a picture for your snow blower and/or part? There's tons of us out there that google pretty good. To answer your 3D printing questions... all you need is a 3d model of the part. 3D printing is cheap!
U can order the part, took 30sec to find part and #
@@thomasjoseph5876 You don't need to know how to program to create 3d printable objects. You need to know how to use a CAD program, a few of which are web based and free to use (ex: tinkercad, onshape, etc).
Thing is, unless you already have a 3D printer (or know of someone that has one) that can print technical materials (PACF, CF-ABS, Nylon, etc), it's not economically viable to buy a 3D printer just to make one part. Like you said with your snowblower example, sometimes a whole replacement is cheaper than trying to source a single part. In the case of a 3D printer a cheap Ender3 from Microcenter isn't going to cut it to make a part out of decent materials either. Yeah you *could* make it out of ToughPLA but I wouldn't count on it lasting very long (but that's just me).
My new scythe and me are getting along splendidly. I stopped using gas and electric mowers because of the increasing amount of plastic parts.
My new scythe has a wooden handle (snath), a steel collar and bolts to hold the blade to the snath and a tool steel blade. I paid less than half for my scythe outfit as this mower.
Now just get an all black robe with loose fitting hood, and the look will be complete.
@@cadthunkin My better half suggested that too.
FWIW, I purchased a Kobalt 40volt dual blade push mower quite a few years ago. I forget now if it came with a 3 or 5 year warrantee. In the last year of the warrantee, one of the motors stopped working, so I returned it to Lowes and they offered me either a full refund or a replacement. I chose a a replacement. But I ended up a year later, getting a gasoline powered mower, because they simply have FAR more power and it takes a MUCH shorter time to mow my yard with one. The cordless, even with two 4ah and one 2ah battery, took several hours because they batteries would run down after 30 min or so, and I'd have to wait for them to recharge to finish. Interestingly, the cost to charge the batteries was TINY. Using a meter called a KillAWatt, I found it took four complete charge cycles of a battery to use around 25 cents of electricity.
Everyone please share this with everyone you know. Lowes and Kobalt need to be shamed for this. I will never buy a Kobalt item after this.
Agreed, even Harbor freight is now doing spare parts..
@@jamesm568 if that is true then share the link.
Hey Guess what every single manufactura are all doing the same thing all i have to say GOOD LUCK with them my advice buy a used mower Places like Home Depot Lowe's Will be out of Business in a few years
@@byronmill Greenwork parts also fit kobalt mowers, Black & Decker, and Craftsman electric mowers.
@@byronmill There's a part number in the owner's manual and even harbor freight has that blade adapter / cooling fan.
If it is still under the manufacture warranty you can call that number and they will put you in contact to get a copy of the receipt. Then you call that number back with the receipt number they gave you and the Vendor will provide you with a reference number. You then take that number along with the copy of the receipt to Lowes. They will then give you a credit and will RTV or Return to Vendor credit. I had to do this with a LED light fixture that had a 5 yr warranty and only lasted less than a year. It was of course over Lowes 90 day policy and of course I did not have the original receipt. Hope this helps.
Good Evening. It is 7.20 P.M. here in Berwyn Illinois a Suburb of Chicago.I just watched your video about the Kobalt lawn mower. It is a shame products are made and sold with out back up parts and service. This should be a warranty item. Now for the problem solver.I would take an aluminum pop rivit ,measure diameter and drill a same size opening in the fan plate.Measure the the thickness of the plate and allow for blade thickness.Do not compress the rivit . The mounting hole drilled should be a friction fit, apply glue such as Crazy . The aluminum is hard enough to retain the blade position.Yet soft enough to act as a shear pin upon impact. Please try this method,It solves many problems such as this.I love your channel, great work.p.s. do you have a P.O Box
That shows that Lowes doesn’t have the type of people required to have their own products. I own a lot of kobalt products that I know will be trash when they break but I did recently buy a chainsaw and I hoped it might be supported for a while. Thanks for exposing this.
I bought a 2 stage colman air compressor after several years of interminite use it swallowed a valve. I coulden't get parts from Colman because their compressors were considered "Throw-Away" Now I won't even consider colman products.
Oh I feel for guy but we all know that lowes blows for most replacement parts and home depot and menards. For certain things. I watch your videos when I can. Your practical and to the point. Thanks for the heads up. Looking forward to a video on why my power washer chokes and doesn't work.
I had something not dissimilar with the plastic gear on my Worx electric chainsaw. I dug around for a replacement for a few weeks before just trashing it.
Good stuff to know. Wonder if a machine shop with weight balancing could install two bolts through the blade and plastic adapter.
Wife got B&D electric mower. Belt was defective and jumped on the 2nd use. Went to get the replacement belt and the don't sell them. Left a message at their headquarters in NJ I think and left a message requesting they sell me a belt. Return call in the morning: Hello Kevin, this is so and so from B&D. We don't sell belts............but how about I ship you a new mower?" For a $5 belt? I would have put it on myself but no, he ships me a brand new mower. I asked where he wanted the old one shipped to and he said "Don't bother, just throw it away." I'm kind of in disbelief cause it's a helluva way to run a business.
Just shows you how much profit there is in that product. I think all these people buying all these EV cars are going to find themselves in these types of problems a couple of year down the road.
Dayum, I bought mine back in 2018 and so far no problems, its actually been a pretty good push mower for being battery operated.
Very cool you share your knowledge help lot got way experience in easy way had great day
afternoon "Chickanic" about the Kobalt mower, I would rivet a zip-tie to the fan so if something else was to be struck, the zip-tie would brake and I would replace it...just drill out the rivets and insert new ones, rather than toss the $600.00 tool
I found several used on ebay. Kobalt KM-2041B-06 40V cordless lawn mower parts: Motor Fan. One guy has 9 available as of 3/15
A perfect example of our throwaway culture, although if it were mine I'd try to fit a different blade and mount.
Thanks for sharing. I’ll pass this video on.👍👍
How about a couple of 10-32 bolts and drilled holes with washers not the best fix but will keep it going . If it fails the blade will just slip not detach. If the guy is 80 and seeing the damage maybe he needs to get a lawn boy to do it for him ?
Love your channel, this might be a new one for you. I have a kobalt 40 V leaf blower and if it sits over a couple minutes it won’t work unless I eject the battery and push it in again. Any ideas? Thanks, Larry
Bought a Snapper 84V mower that uses Briggs and Stratton batteries 2 1/2 years ago. Guess who no longer has blades or manuals/parts lists available. Found a review of a Greenworks battery that the reviewer said could be modified to replace the B&S batteries.
2 quarter inch bolt with self-locking nuts layout needs to be accurate
Found over a dozen listings for the part by doing a simple google search. Your video is libelous.
Unfortunately a lot of these electric yard tools are getting to be almost "disposable".
I have the same mower, I mostly use it to get in places my big Zero Turn won't reach. I have noticed that Lowes does sell the mower (tool only for around $220 last time I looked), using the same batteries and charger.
If I had this issue myself that's the route I'd go.
Well, you can't expect Lowes to stock every part, and only 5 min. on hold for custmer service ain't that bad... I like D Stevens comment to check the owners manually and contact the manfacture. If you buy from a big box retailor, your not gone get the same sevice as a small shop that really knows it's products... I'm curious to see how this gets resolved, keep us in the loop. Thanks for the tip on what to look for in a mower and what to avoid....
Yup. I bought a Mountfield Princess 38Li battery powered mower made by STIGA of Italy. After 5 years the height adjustment lever broke - they had lightweighted the plastic arm at the point of highest stress. Saved them literally 1-2 cents in plastic, cost me 40 bucks to repair. 3 weeks later both Li-ion batteries failed. The cost to replace these was more than the price of a new mower, so the unit went to scrap and I bought a second hand petrol machine. A UK-made Hayter, 18 years old and still going strong on a Briggs and Stratton engine. Which to do you think has the higher life cycle impact? A 5 year old hunk of fake eco junk or a machine built to last?
I bought the 24-volt sliding miter saw, the carrying handle broke and I called Lowes customer service & they said no replacement parts were available for the saw.
Great video Bre!! That is unbelievable!! Can't really blame Lowes... well sort of because they should have looked into product support from the manufacturer before selling the product. Kobalt, however is really craping in their own yard to NOT support their products. Makes for a lousy reputation. I won't be buying anything from them!!
Harbor Freight sells a blade assembly for their 80v mower which includes the fan. It might work depending upon bolt diameter.
The HF mower may have copied it. I have a Ingersol dual action sander that parts are no longer available for. I bought a cheap HF sander that looks identical and took the parts from that. I also have a name brand HVLP paint sprayer. Again, it looks identical to a cheap one at HF. I bought one for 13 dollars on sale at harbor freight and took parts from it.
Wow that part doesn't look like it would last one season. I'd never bought it but to keep it running I'd put 3/16" aluminum bolts in place of the arrows. They'd shear in a strike. If I had a plastic printer I'd print something. Maybe he has a son that can do it.
Drill hole between fins on two sides and put small bolt with large washer. No need to drill blade. Better than new.
You could probably get a steel or aluminum fan for an industrial electric motor the exact same size made for d shaft motors.
Toro Z-master model 74176-220000263 motor blows oil out the top and dealer said it can't be fixed and it is trash. I don't know if a replacement motor will fit. FH500V-ES10 twin cylinder. Changed out filter screen and cover also 992049A seal. No help and parts cannon is out of ammo. Dealer info was when they reach limited number of hours the engine fails.
that part is called Brushless 40v parts Blade Mounting Assembly
Well this doesn't surprise me. My thing is electronics and I was responsible for the tech support in a large place that had several TVs running 24/7/365. When they went to flat screen TVs it was about a year before we started to have failures. Most of them I could fix (a part called a capacitor-- they always fail). But a few had more deep issues. We bought 50 of the same exact model TVs from an Asian company (well known). Their online support was excellent but long story short-- there were NO SPARE PARTS available. They build them to be thrown away.
"You vill own nozzink, und you vill be HAPPY!"
I have one with a 120 V battery, but I see I will not have much luck with parts. I have not begun to see what wrong with it f with mine, because mine is not functioning at all.
say it aint so! This has been my favorite mower until my blade adapter broke and I found your video.
Is there no other adapter that magically fits? Lowes is not taking care of me so far. My claim may still be in progress, I'll update if they respond.
You can find that part online. But seriously, you can rig that part to work again.
3d printing mold it on clay then use backing soda and super glue let dry and wham u fix the broken plastic
hey miss chickanic
this is a very simple 3d print
you can make it to even work with better blades from other (and better) companies
was getting ready to buy an 80v kobalt mower, not now.
If you can't get the plastic part, drill a couple of holes and put in a couple of weak bolts to act as shear pins. When the bolts break, do it again.
Maybe that's what JB Plastic Weld is for ...fix it yourself by carving similar plastic nubs and glue (epoxy) them on. It's probably stronger than the original, if you can find the correct materials.
Saw where they sell battery powered blowers, $$$$$ omg, huge, look heavy, probably wouldn't last to finish my needs. Got a cheap electric $49 one off Amazon, works great, never runs out of power lol, light weight, 2 speed, ! When it breaks, buy another.....
Be aware of buying from Lowes. I purchased a John Deere D140 riding lawn tractor and had it delivered to my home. While it appeared to operate correctly, it wasn't in my yard 24 hours when the mower failed to engage. I could start and drive the mower, but engaging the blades shut the mower down. I called Lowers three times over the next week. They promised to order a replacement, but they just ghosted me.
Fortunately, I used my American Express card to purchase the lawn tractor, not a Lowes card. Amex has a great reputation for customer advocacy in a dispute. I contacted Amex and disputed the charge (over $3,000). They took that charge off of my account while they investigated. It took a while, and had a few calls with Amex to discuss. Lowes never contacted me. I offered to Amex that Lowes could replace, repair, or return my lawn tractor. Lowes did nothing. So, Amex ended the investigation and the charge stayed off of my account. I'll go to a JD dealer and have them repair the unit, but not a cent will go to Lowes.
Dont you find it curious that both Lowes & Home Depot
corporate offices are in the same town of Atlanta?
!
lmao I'm glad I'm not the only one curious about the tachometer
Electric stuff is often manufactured as an assembly, and not cataloged as parts. These are just big versions of electric drills, and nobody repairs them if the fan to shaft breaks.
Engines were always made from components, built up into a full motor, shaft and deck. Cars, trucks, tractors, lawnmowers. Parts is stock and trade.
Electric stuff is typically a finished component assembly from a supplier and your company bolts on the wheels and plastic shroud with your logo printed on it.
My old gas mower has a shearable shaft key which works perfectly to protect the engine and blade. Shaft keys are cheap, can buy them anywhere. It makes no sense to me to have to replace a bunch of expensive parts for such a common accident as the blade hitting a rock. That's just bad design. If, like me, you take care of your equipment your mower can last 31 years like mine. (rotary, Homelight/Jacobsen aluminum deck, 3.5 Briggs, moderate oil consumption and no visible smoke while running, usually easy to start)
They're not the only brand that parts aren't available for... And then there's the companies that make electric lawn mowers and snowblowers, sell them for 3 months and discontinue them. I fell into the trap with Snow Joe, bought one of their latest greatest snowblowers a couple years ago, a month later they discontinued it. By the 2nd season it needed some parts, and just like you found out... Nope, sorry, out of luck. They even went to a new battery voltage so I couldn't even buy a different tool and use the batteries and charger. Back to gas, never looking back.
Remind me to never give you something marginally hard to fix. You take a drill. Drill two small holes through the blade and through the fan add two 1/4" bolts washers and lock tight the nuts on. Total fix time 10 min. Repair will outlast the rest of the mower.
I like the way gas smells
What kind of 2stroke oil do you prefer

I would be contacting Lowes, in Australia it is illegal to sell anything that is not fit for purpose, surely it is the same in the US or don't you have any consumer rights laws?
Whenever my mower breaks I call my dad and he throws pliers and some colorful lingo at it and it works again.
Getting a belt for my kobalt snow blower was a nightmare

I believe this ?Fan/Blade Adaptor will work: Sun Joe MJ408E-FANHP MJ408E Fan Hardware Pack
Kobalt , the famous. I bought an airtool set of kobalt what is known lowes brand and when the time parts needed guess what , no parts sold . Thadaaa.
That would be so easy to fix with a drill and and 2 bolts.
Lowes wouldn't honor their warranty on a Kobalt mower because the model was no longer sold in stores.
There’s a guy in the comments saying he got the parts online. Just wondering in case I need a part, what websites?
I'm looking a 80v battery and charger for my brushless mower
Good lord woman! How do you keep those nails clean? I need screw driver only to get half of it out..😊
@randyleiter had a great idea. First generation 3D printers are getting pretty cheap and every junior college or tech school should have one. Wait until this becomes intellectual property and Kobalt sues you for even suggesting this. My Lowes salesman seemed surprised I asked if my Craftsman snowblower came with shear pins. It did!
Time to make some modifications to the fan to hold the blade in place, make it so a pin would shear off but not do any more damage
Do Greenworks parts fit Kobalt, saw something that said they are the same.
That's because Kobalt isn't a company. Kobalt is a brand name created by Lowes to represent tools manufactured by various companies. That's typically why if something breaks they just take the entire unit back for a refund.
You said 5-year warranty on factory defects? Yep - I’d be arguing that one..! A defect in design is still a defect!
look at a parts diagram for a stihl RMA-460
Sounds like someone with a really good printer could be making these up and filling a much needed niche in the world of mowing.
My sister works at Lowes and bought one of these mowers liked it so much she got her daughter one.
They really do a good job and seem to last a decent amount on a charge. I try and walk the lawn before mowing finding dog toys sticks rocks ect so I don't hit too much.
There's several fixes for the original part but I can see your reluctance to do them. With a business you really need to use original parts for something like this. If it was his neighbor I'd have this thing up and mowing for him. Hell I'd probably be doing his lawn age does have its privileges after all.
Great channel love the way you go through things. I can't imagine how many trips to a repair shop you've saved people.
If the store don't have what you're looking for call the company that makes the lawns they might have that part you're looking for
Put some small bolts in, fixed
Manufacturers are required to stock repair parts, the time limits vary in each state. call the Better Business Bureau.
Why does Kobalt want to sell you parts that you don’t need? Thanks for going the extra mile for your customers.
I would make one from Aluminum
Glad I went with a Honda
I hope some day someone invents a 3-d printer for plastic and metal parts on lawnmowers and vehicles, so that way the public doesn’t have to depend on these companies to see if they have the parts for whatever items that have broken down or worry about discontinuation on parts. There are so many things that could be saved, but instead we have to scrap or throw them away because of one part or parts.
Is there a way to see if that part can be replicated by printing it in 3D?
A large nut that slips snuggly over the motor shaft and a welder.
I could repair the lawnmower in no time.
Add 30 to 60 min if I wanted to attach the blade with shear bolts.
Mechanics fix things that part replacers can't.
