    We had unfinished business in Jarbidge..3 times we'd been there or tried to get there and NEVER had the Prime Rib. Twice timing wasn't right...and once we got stranded on the other side of snowy ravine and couldn't make it into Jarbidge. This time Jase (the owner of the Red Dog Saloon) agreed to make Prime Rib for us...but we HAD to be there....so we drove through a bombing range and almost buried ourselves in mud...but dog gone it..we made to for the Prime Rib dinner...and it was worth every second of the adventure to get there. Remember first rule of traveling thru a military range especially at night. Don't Look like a target. We were at a field exercise at a range north of Las Vegas and unknown to us some folks had crossed into the range borders after dark. We came over a hill and we thought it was just a couple junked vehicles and were about to junk them some more. When a lady got out of back of truck for a potty break, luckily it showed up on thermal and night vision. Boy was she surprised when we walked up out of the dark, we waited until she was done first of course🤣

    • @Venture2Roam
      @Venture2Roam  Рік тому

      Exactly! This is why we turned on every light we had (front and back) and drove as fast as we could. I don't think they have moving targets on the range. I can kind of imagine how that woman you describe felt lol.

    Any trailer would have been a mess in that mud. I am glad mine does not have any step fenders to collect mud in front of entry door. Or any steps or stab jacks that are attached during transit. Did you have any fresh water tank over flow splashing out ? FYI- I have a ostrich full size awning on my Trail Marker and Theo is the man. None of the craft off road builders step up the the ostrich awning quality. Try Camp Fire High West whisky made in my home town.

    • @Venture2Roam
      @Venture2Roam  Рік тому

      I think the biggest problem was my wide tires stick out past my fenders...so anything behind me get sprayed with mud...but those flat fenders just let it pile up. If I were towing on the regular I'd need some kind of mud flap...because it was not livable for any length of time with that mud. No water sloshing issues that I know of. The Ostrich is really really good...clearly I love mine. These trailers if you buy from XGrid come with a Bush Co awning...which is also super stout and well made..I'd love to see them use something from Theo though!

    Nice video-as much as I like driving in mud cleaning the gear off afterward can be a real challenge! One hard lesson is to learn that there is no shame in saying enough is enough and turning back around. It was great to see the Red Dog as one of the most important parts of any of our long trips is to find those iconic stopping points and intermingle with like minded travelers and share strories/ideas/travel updates etc. Oh, and whiskey at the end of the night is one of the great discoveries from time on the road-no refrigeration needed!

      No refrigeration needed!!! Yep - I hate to turn around...but at the same time, you gotta know when to throw in the towel (for many reasons)...our consolation prize was sitting around camp hanging out...which was pretty dang good too.

    If we ever do a run together I will bring some Ardbeg. Smoke in the whisky.

      I bet Adrbeg and smoke would go really well together!

      @@Venture2Roam No need to add smoke. Ardbeg is made using peat smoke as part of it production. It has a wonderful smoke forward flavor. It's what I recommend to people who say all they taste is burn in whisky.
