This trip was a bucketlist item for Chris and I. It was amazing, but grueling. This first full day of the BDR was a teeny tiny preview of some of the adventures that were waiting for us out there in the deep, wild, backcountry of Idaho. For more V2R vids: ua-cam.com/users/venture2roam
I love living here in North Idaho. I get to live daily in a place most people just visit maybe once. I get to see 4 seasons and greet each one with amazement. The landscape is middle earth like, always green and tree rich. The lakes and rivers are perfect for gazing on or swimming in. The people are good hearted, friendly and kind but not suckers and we guard our small, peaceful towns and villages from the disruptions of blue state city’s and their corrosive pathologies. Come as a friend and stay for life….no better place in the world.
Absolutely loved part #1 and i really can't wait for the rest. Thank you to all of you for sharing these trips with the rest of us, adding the extra time in to video/edit on your part is a lot and i think you really deserve a thank you for doing it!! Stay safe and keep the fun coming 😊

Been waiting on your Idaho BDR series to drop and 1st episode did not disappoint! Can’t wait to see the rest of this series. Your storytelling & filmmaking are excellent - thanks for all the hard work!!!
Hi Will. Oliver here from South Africa. I found your channel a while ago and have really enjoyed it. I must agree with many of the other comments - your cinematography, narration and story line are just next level. You should have a million subscribers! Really like the family element and the faith-filled heart that comes across! Looking forward to the next episode.
Hi Oliver! So glad you found out channel. Really appreciate the kind words!!! Here’s hoping more folks like you find it too 😀. This comment totally made my day. Cheers!!!
As an Idaho native, it’s so cool to see it so well put in the limelight! Only live about 1.5 hours out of Jarbridge and have seen that old gnarled tree at your campsite many times.
That is a fantastic tree. We didn't mean to find that campsite...we were just turning around and were like...yep..this is the spot. I'm an Idaho native too...so I never feel like I can do it justice lol. Thanks for taking the time to watch hope you can catch more of this series!
We used all three of our chainsaws multiple times on this trip. It was a lot of fun...until it we just wanted to drive and stop pretending we were lumberjacks lol.
Atlanta is an interesting town, stories another time. Wish I had done the IDBR while I lived there - biggest regret. Someday I hope to get back & do more sections. Awesome as always can’t wait to see more of your adventures.
If you look at the map I keep showing (it's kind of a character in the story) you'll see some words written in red wax (I took pics of my actual BDR map) - I scribbled down some of the stories I wanted to tell in certain sections of the route. Atlanta is a special place for Kate because her dad (and his dad) built a cabin up there and Kate would frequently visit...it's where she saw her first bear (on the deck of the cabin) and had a ton of adventures. We didn't get to tell that story on this trip...but we'll just have to go back to Atlanta to make it happen :)
Two years ago (2021)I spent the night in a small campground in SNOWVILLE Utah, near Ida border and the wind came down the canyon sounding like a passing fit train outside my camp. Two other rigs camping w/rooftop tents, folded up and moved to less windy area. So, checking weather rpts etc necessary, so you don't end up in another state!
the video quality is outstanding in this video. 👏 you have outdone yourself sir. I cannot wait to see the rest of your trip. I really enjoyed the audio the music was great it really pulled me in. Thanks again for creating such a great video and for sharing it!

I mean...Alaska. So glad to hear this video series landed with you. It was an awesome adventure...we're doing an Oregon adventure in a few weeks that should be pretty amazing too. Can't wait to share!
You could have taken a more accessible and shorter route from Rocky Bar over Phifer Creek Summit below Steel Mountain. But who cares that you couldn't stay on the actual BDR. The objective is to stay on dirt for as much as possible, and James Creek is a damn good way to do that, LOL. I worked for the Forest Service for nearly forty years and unloaded my horses & mules and packed out from James Creek summit many times. Depending on the weather, it was sometimes quite a challenge for me to get a large horse trailer loaded with horses up and down that road. I love that place...
So cool to know that you worked for the Forest Service...later in the trip we dig into its history as we get closer to Avery and Wallace as the Big Burn was such an important event in its evolution. James Creek is such a pretty drive and I love the view from up there (in good weather)...so it was really a selfish choice vs just trying to stay on the route as much as possible. But I agree...who cares lol. Great comment - hope you continue to watch the rest of the series!

It's on youtube...all you have to do is search Idaho BDR Movie on youtube, but here's a shortcut! ua-cam.com/video/8rXJL46lwcc/v-deo.html I love how Sterling focuses on the characters telling the story...and he gets some pretty wicked footage too considering he basically just had a camcorder.
