Hell, Fr. Rob. I'm not sure if you'l get to see this. But if you, I'd greatly appreciate your input and perspective. I was born and raised Catholic. During my high school years and into my early 20's, I started attending the post modern cafe Christian services. They definitely served a purpose in my spiritual development; but, for lack of a better term, they didn't offer the fullness that the mass did. So, I started attended mass regularly again at my childhood parish. The same pastor was there from when I graduated 8th grade. We struck up a good, spiritual friendship. However, I still found myself struggling with finding my role/place in the fabric of the Catholic Church. So, I stopped attending mass and sort of walked away from the structure of the church altogether. However, my heart never left His church. I saw that pastor at a church carnival and he had some very harsh words for me. He asked me where I've been. I told him I was simply going through some things and that I'd be back. He responded, "Yeah. I've heard that line from you before." He then walked away from me. I understand I'm allowing one person's reaction to keep me from experiencing God's love in the mass; however, those comments deeply wounded my heart. I was also involved as a witness in a priest sexual abuse case; and this pastor was involved as well. He knows wholeheartedly the very personal struggle I've experienced with trying to reconcile my commitment to the church with the ugliness I've seen behind its walls. I don't think it was fair for him to approach me that way. Unfortunately, that's the only Catholic Church in my neighborhood. It's the only Catholic Church I've ever attended with the exception of a few masses here and there. I can't bring myself to attend mass there anymore. I've tried. But, it's met with such anxiety over looking like a fool to this pastor. I yearn so badly to be an active and on fire Catholic. But I don't know where to go???

Adam Visconto "If you are ever disappointed with your family, your country, your Church: that some lack faith or don't practice what they preach; or if there's mental illness, addiction or abuse, feuding, promiscuity or poor communication: whatever it is, remember it was all there, and worse, in Jesus' own family tree. Rather than the perfect, Jesus came to join a family just like yours; indeed, yours is the very family He connects with this Christmas.
God-made-Baby says that by grace things can be better: humanity can be united to divinity and transformed by it. A new page is turned today; a new start given.
A happy and holy Christmas to you all." : Archbishop Anthony Fisher Op

Hi. You young man don't want to go anywhere but to Jesus your Super Star......people may come and go but they are not the decision making point in your life...Open and entrust your every moment of experiences before the Your Master Jesus.....forgive them because you are a herald of Jesus Love to all. God Bless You......

I can feel that you have real love in your heart for the Catholic Church and God/Jesus from your comment. It might help to know that only a very small number of Catholic priests commit sexual crimes I believed last I checked it was (less than 1%) that is a lower percentage than teachers committing such crimes in public schools. Ultimately the Catholic Church is a family. our family, and you have to decide how you want to be a part of it. Take some time to think about your identity as a Catholic and your mission in the world and then don't let anyone including a priest stop you from living that out. It doesn't sound like you can have a good working relationship with that pastor maybe a different parish would be a better option. Even though we may destroy parts of the church I believe God has invested too much in us and The Holy Spirit will eventually intervene to straighten all this out.

That is the furthest thing from a Catholic Church and I’m a teenage Catholic..... That Church looks like God isn’t there. “It is best to learn to silence the faculties and to cause them to be still, so that God may speak”.
    --St John of the Cross

Jake Yeo that certainly is the best way to connect with God once you have encountered Him. You’re blessed.

I’m humbled by your answer. Just in my pre-teen years the reason I fell away from the Catholic Church because of the Mass and what the Priest was teaching us. Eventually I started to read the Catechism and going to the Latin Mass. I’m no where to perfection but I feel like I have found what is truly Catholic.
