    A little tip for anyone using spreadsheets: You shouldn't hardcode variables into a formula, when they change it makes it harder to adjust and easier for errors to creep in. For example in the profit section the price should be a separate column so that F23=H23-E23 (assuming H23 contains the price you charge). Same with the weights of the ingredients, both what you buy and how much is in your recipe in case either change.
    I'd also suggest formatting every cell as currency so you get £2.50 rather than 2. It'll also set the answer to 2 decimal places so you don't end up with £0.545375 instead of £0.55

    Hi Amy.. I just wonder If you write the ingredients on the chocolate packets you use to decorate your items? Sorry about my English..I mean like those ready items on the brownies? They all have lots of ingredients of their own plus browni you made. For allergen purposes, isn't it risky to put ready sweets on brownies?
    Thank you

    • @Sweetthingsbyamy
      @Sweetthingsbyamy  3 роки тому

      Hi, you only have to list allergens eg milk, eggs etc. so i list the basic ingredients, then twix chocolate etc (not whats in them). You can put sweets on brownies :) All you have to do is note in descriptions that these brownies aren't suitable for allergic people. Then you can put anything on them and just include an allergen label

    Great video! One question though, what is a good mark up percentage for items like cookies and cakes?

    Hi, how do you work out what to charge for utility bills/insurance etc? Thank you 😊

    • @Sweetthingsbyamy
      @Sweetthingsbyamy  3 роки тому +4

      Hi, for bills I don’t currently include an exact percentage as I live at home and don’t have the exact costs (when I move out this will be included) most add between £2-3 per order for oven use etc based on an average daily cost when they divide there monthly bill into days.
      For insurance mine is £11 so I don’t add a specific amount as it is so little but I charge a larger hourly rate as I am registered and insured.
      Insurance would be more for a shop so for that I would work out an exact amount again by dividing the days 😁

    Thanks for your video. Do you charge for postage cost separately or include in your product price ? Thank you x

    • @Sweetthingsbyamy
      @Sweetthingsbyamy  2 роки тому +1

      Separately, honestly I think it’s good to show people the cost. I never buy things with it included as you don’t know what class it’s sent. Most include it so they can make extra profit on it. I do it so people know they’re sent tracked. Ps unpopular opinion but postage is never free so why label it as free xx

      I saw some sellers sell postal bake goods like brownie or cookies for example for about £10 and free UK delivery that means the sellers won't get much after the cost of ingredients and delivery. So this is why I was wondering x

    Hi, I know this is super personal so please don’t feel like you have to answer but is your business successful enough for you to be able to live off of it? I want to start my own baking business but I’m really in the dark about how much money roughly you’d earn per month etc and don’t know if it would actually be viable. Thank you!

    • @Sweetthingsbyamy
      @Sweetthingsbyamy  3 роки тому +12

      Hey, I don’t mind it’s alright. I would say you need to work out your costs per month then workout you required amount to sell e.g 10 cakes etc.
      I have got very low bills as I paid lots of things off when I was in my previous job in March so now my bills are £300 then £50 for food.
      I would recommend building your business whilst working as it will be a reduced income as orders won’t necessarily come straight away.
      Personally I knew I might never earn the same as I used to but I was in a stressful accounting role so I’m just happy to have time to myself, make my own hours and not be stressed all the time lol.
      Hope this is helpful, ps it’s taken me 5 months but i earned £900 so far this month when previous months it’s been £600 xx

      Thank you for all your information.
      I'm thinking of doing savoury take away items and wondering if I should just say products may contain all main allergy ingredients.

    Do you sell the spreadsheet software or where do I get one please, it's really something have done but obviously makes life easier.
    Also you have a spreadsheet for daily temperatures etc. I got the pack but electronic version would be better.
