Something of a personal story for you, Andrew: I've been a watch collector for the last five years or so, loved watches from my teenage years; but because of the salary situation in Spain (not so good, let's say, as in other countries) some pieces other consider mid or even entry level are an absolute crazy level of craziness for my budget. So my collection is mainly Seikos, microbrands and the likes with my most expensive pieces in the 700 euro range. I've been in love with the Omega Speedmaster since I've started knowing about watches: its looks, its history, everything was appealing to me. But in its price range it was always an opium dream to think I would EVER have one, so I settled for the poor man's option with a Bulova Lunar Pilot: an excellent watch on its own right, but one that always seemed to say to me "Hey, I'm nice but I'm not a Speedmaster" whenever I looked at it. Then my situation improved slightly and I was able to save to get another piece I thought could scratch the itch, a Hamilton Intramatic. Nah. I like it, but I don't love it (it sits too fat on the wrist, for one) and of course is no Speedmaster. But then, alas, thanks to an unexpected unemployment bonus (don't worry, I'm employed again) I found myself with 5k € in my account and no pressing matter on what to spend them. This was last year, and even with that kind of money still wasn't enought to get a Speeedy (thanks Omega for bumping prices, we all love you!). Watchfinders to the rescue! Thanks to your former employees I was able to procure a BEAUTIFUL 3861 sapphire sandwich from 2020 in pristine condition, box with magnifying crystal, velcro strap, papers, book of astronaut pictures and all the hoopla; and as I am watching your video my Speedy (even writing those words seems unreal to me, MY Speedy) sits comfortable on my wrist. But now I realise than, while I'm still very much in love with the Moonwatch, I may very well be on the lookout for a mistress: the white dial, 7K euro version of the watch I love. Sigh. Why couldn't I love something less expensive, like Legos?
Olá amigo save your cash instead buying micro do a simple mathematic how many pieces do you bought have? Then I you figure how much you spent same price for new sppedy better than microbrands by the way the bulova it's a very cool piece 😊👌 and went into space as well 5 k credit unemployed already got new job! Cool low salaries come to Portugal you'll see what's low salaries plus huge taxes the Portuguese that live near Spain all go and buy food, diesel gasoline, even gaz bins! Why not search a trusted prey owned store near Barcelona I ve see few good deals but I live in algarve no to far from Andaluzia but a trip to Barcelona it's expensive just to check in my wrist the watch 😊 adios amigo 👍
Have my Tudor chronograph panda dial of course I do like the nice steel a d gold black mate dial sub dials in gold but now it's almost 8k 😮 Tudor Rolex's all got prices increase around 5%more 😮
Careful - Lego sets are getting up there in price too! Went in the Omega store on the Champs Elysees this summer for a look. I’m not in the market for an Omega, but the store staff were very friendly and my knowing something about Omega watches helped offset my lack of buying power. I specifically looked at the Aqua Terra in blue on bracelet.
Andrew, this is the most refreshing look at a subject chewed on and discussed a gazillion times by virtually everyone - the Omega Speedmaster Moon Watch. Watching it felt like learning about this watch for the first time. Thank you!
I honestly believe the quickest way to get a Daytona would be to become a professional racing driver and win the Daytona 24hour. Which, at the time I'm writing this, finishes in about two hours.
I have owned 3 Omega Planet Ocean Chronographs for 3 years. I have worn them and loved them. Put the 3 up for sale through a local dealer. One just returned me a profit of £1000. I did this as i have purchased 4 of the variations of the Omega Ultra Deep. I love the Planet Ocean it is the perfect watch ...so brilliant. I dont look at making money but if i can buy a watch love it enjoy it then sell to close to what i pay .. Omega are the best.
I had to keep pausing and backtracking to re-listen to patches that I missed because I was laughing too hard. 🤣😂😁 This has to be the single greatest watch video of your entire UA-cam career. I salute you, sir! Alas, given the current state of the economy, my appreciation for marital amity, the state of my watch drawer, and my indulgence in too many other expensive hobbies, the only way I'll ever have an honest Omega is if they decide to buy out the Chinese works that makes those Paganis that Jody loves so much and I come into the fold ex post facto. 😉⌚ In the Pagani's defense, my coworker who owns a Moonwatch compared the two and said the Chinese watch compares remarkably favorably to the Omega, especially considering its comfortably sub-$100US price tag. And if I really want to wear an expensive watch, there's always Granddad's old Navitimer to fall back on. 🤓
A new Speedmaster Professional is absolutely a better watch than a Dayton as long as you buy watches because you love and keep them, not to put into a vault to flip later. It’s got a better, manual wind, decorated, and visible movement, it has a connection to an amazing history (still the only watch ever on the moon), and doesn’t come with the bs Rolex tax of being overpriced and unavailable just because of the name. It’s also less flashy for people who don’t want to flex and show off their wealth.
Just a comment to your comment- The Speedmaster is not the ONLY watch ever worn in the Moon, The Bulova Lunar Pilot worn by Carpenter in the Apollo 15 mission and that sold for 1.5 million USD a couple of years ago is another Chrono worn in the moon surface, and also, several Rolex GMTs have been to the moon, but always worn together with the Speedmaster.
Aloha, Professor Morgan. Cannot overstate how much I appreciate the unique and entertainingly informative history lessons you provide re watch content. Absolutely love the fascinating and little-known back-stories, and the requisite sprinkling of satire and snappy metaphor only add to the enjoyment; unlike anything else on YT. Simply brilliant. Now, if Omega will only make their new FOIS sapphire crystal available across the Professional line, it'll be hard to sit on my wallet. Roger
I love these deep dive episodes. It's this sort of historical and technical info that adds so much to my interest in watches. And all delivered with rapier wit. Does it get any better. I enjoy all your output but for me (much) more like this please! 👍🙂
I love this video!!! My favorite collector's watch has always been the Speedmaster since I got my first one in 1970. After that one, I got 18 more Speedmasters, including the 125, and the "Holy Grail" 376.0802 before it was baptized the "Holy Grail" by my late friend Chuck Maddox (RIP). If I am ever given the opportunity to select between a Free Daytona or the Speedmaster, I would select the Daytona, sell it, and get a Speedmaster, and pocket the difference. Lamentably, I sold all of them when I started to have Health Problems, and right now I only have the Speedmaster with the Automatic caliber 3330 Co-Axial, but I hope to get the 3861 soon!!! But something I would like to add-the Hexalite Crystal is preferred to the Saphire one coz it doesn't shatter like the saphire, just cracks, and that is a safety feature for the astronauts coz they will not have dangerous glass microparticles floating inside the spacecraft cabin in case there is a damage to the crystal, so Hexalite is better for Space missions.
Great video. The Speedmaster is a great watch but I’ll never understand why they didn’t put a display back on the FOIS. But the end of the day… I still love the look and column wheel movement of the Breitling B01. No shame on this watch though. I love omega and I’m still trying to figure out which watch of their I want.
Been eyeballing this model, called the AD yesterday and it's about an 8 week order. Still want the Rolex get as my favorite, but I don't think it will come anytime soon!
My Citizen BJ7110-89E is the perfect watch for me. Titanium, Sapphire crystal and Eco-drive. And the date window. I need to know the date in my line of work. The Omega is nice though I agree, but I don't think I'd wear it very often.
Great video and I love my 50th Snoopy & Alaska Project Speedy’s but you did Omega dirty with your NASA space qualification narrative. NASA’s testing was very intense for a watch of that time period & every watch failed the tests, some catastrophically at basic tests… the Speedmaster just did the best of all the other watch brands tested finally breaking and unable to run on the high heat & temperature exposure test.
Fantastic work! I appreciate how you can teach while being a smartass. 😂 Also, am I the only one who saw a spec of white dust hit the display caseback at 18:39? Or was it dandruff? We may never know!
Oof…that parting "deniers" shot… Anyway: As my Speedy Pro days are decades behind me (it disappeared from my hands, rather mysteriously, about that long ago), I've looked at Omega's back-and-forth moves with the model with mostly-detached interest. And, while I *do* occasionally miss it, my Seiko 6139 chronograph (yeah, it *did* beat everybody else to serial production in the first-auto-chrono-ever stakes) is a wonderful salve, and I still have my Speedy memories, Et Cetera. (Also: Kodak did NOT ignore digital tech - in fact, it developed cutting-edge tech at the very beginning of the digital-imaging era. Where Rochester effed-up was (1) not fully understanding the implications surrounding the technology they'd just developed, and (2) having too many people in the company regarding it as a mortal threat to their cash-cow product (film) to allow the company to properly capitalize on it…rather similar to General Motors' techs developing the EV-1 electric car, only to have the suits deep-six it because it was a threat to the "established order.")
I'm buying a Speedmaster this year but I can't decide which one. I had it narrowed down to the Moonwatch Crystal sandwich (I want to see the movement) and the white Moonwatch. Then they introduced the FOIS which I have yet to see in person but seems to be the frontrunner now. This was a great video and the white Speedy is amazing.
Try to see all 3 in the metal on bracelet before making your decision, they are all amazing, I think my favorite is the FOIS, but it’s one of those rare situations where there is no wrong choice.

1) Great video. Enjoyed it so much I may just get the white dial Speedy. 2) I have however just bought a YG Rolex Daytona on the Oysterflex which is a fantastic watch.
I’ve tried to love chronographs but can’t. I have a speedy triple date and the date functions I use, the chronograph never gets used. It’s just a pretty blue watch that goes with several outfits that I have but don’t love.
I love my white dial speedy. My biggest issue personally is that it's a manual wind. For a watch so good that i want to wear regularly having to wind it is slightly irritating. Especially given i have big fat fingers and the crown hugs the case, given its not a screw down crown
me and Doris have had a really good day . tide was out so lots of sand to play on , showers passed over and left sunshine . and so we frolicked and chased and ran and tumbled on a deserted beach . until person by person and dog by dog the shoreline began to fill up . Sounds roaringly splendid, but you didn't say whether or not you had the obligatory cucumber sandwiches, heaps of tomatoes, and of course, lashings of Ginger Beer! Toodle-pip!
When I started this hobby, I thought I wanted the Omega Speedmaster and Submariner. I soon grew out of their design aesthetics. The Navitimer still appeals to me though; however, too many polished surfaces for me. And Sinn has a better value proposition.
Great video, love these historical deep-dives. But what about the Breitling Navitimer? Yes, it's a pilot instrument, so closer in spirit perhaps to the older Longines chronographs developed for military use, and it doesn't have an external tachy (or any tachy), and it was made for niche professionals rather than the casual, leisure-oriented pilot. But, it does have the robust oversized case and the insistence on practical use with its slide-rule bezel. Are we saying that motorsport is the key use-case for a "sport chronograph"?
I have the hesalite 3861 (I hated the milky ring on the sapphire sandwich). I bought a sapphire caseback from spiralwinder and now I have the best of both worlds. Yes, it voids the warranty, but maybe they won’t know if I put the old one back before any needed service?
The 7750 is the most logical competitor, and its ubiquity today comes down to the fact that was cheaper to manufacture, and it wasn't a priority for it to look nice - display case backs were still in the future. Long live Lemania, and buy vintage. New prices are just silly.
Correct me if I'm wrong but if the others failed the tests (no matter how) then this is not by default! If you can't read the requirements you don't deserve the contract. Also Rolex failed some of the tests (correct me if I'm wrong)
Thank you so much for this amazing video! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (mistake turkey blossom warfare blade until bachelor fall squeeze today flee guitar). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
The problem with the speedy is the 3861 movement. There are tons of reports of it ceasing to run after stopping / starting the chrono. The watches have to be returned to Southampton for repair. Not good if you’ve only had the thing a few months. Why don’t Omega recall unsold stock??? £7500 for a watch that fails within 6 months? Come on Omega!!
A sports chronograph - definition. A movement designed to relieve the wearer of many, many pounds they probably haven't got for a watch they don't really need.
The case, bracelet and bezel work for me, but the dial doesn't stand up under to the scrutiny of a decent loupe. The dial is way too similar to the much cheaper plastic Swatch version and to make matters worse, Pagani Designs' dial holds up under the naked eye too. And the difference under the loupe is underwhelming at best.
I’m a lucky Speedy White owner that my wonderful Omega boutique @ Zurich reserved for me shortly after the release. I wore it proudly at Watches & Wonders Geneva in ‘24 (1 week after my purchase) and the attention I received from guests that noticed it, watch enthusiasts (couple of UA-cam’s big names) & other watch manufacturers employees working at their stands, was absolutely amazing!
Anyone who thinks the Speedmaster is “big” must have smaller wrists than I can even imagine. The watch is one of the best wearing, perfectly sized watches ever made.
I think you've Hollywooded the story here. The other possible watches for the moon totally broke. And by broke, I mean totally stopped. Each manufacturer submitted 4 watches for testing (citation required?). The Omega's best result was losing 20 minutes in the test. So imagine timing the return burn from the Moon, knowing that it wasn't exactly COSC or METAS certified? I think we're dealing with a whole pile of marketing here. Watches are very prone to this. Do you really think Max likes his TAG Heuer Monaco?
Sorry Andrew. A mechanical chrono will never be my one and done. Any OAD for me will NEED to be quartz and solar. Preferably with perpetual calendar. Ideally with Precisionist sweep. And fantastically with GPS calibration (i.e. Citizen Satellite Wave). The Speedy looks cool and is a good watch, for a mechanical. But an OAD it definitely is not.
Buying a Rolex is like buying a Porsche, sht customer service and you can’t have the better model without throwing money on cheaper models first. Just complete sht hole business practices.

If you’re averse to hanging around outside a country club wearing a ski mask and toting a small but serviceable weapon - yes.
Of course Rolex would rather sell you all the lower hanging fruit first, as you climb the buying ladder of stupidity.
Last time I was this early Rolex was still called Wilsdorf and Davis.
If you want a value-for-money manual-wind column-wheel chronograph, the Seagull 1963 is pretty much the only game in town.
I'm wearing one as a type. Love it.
Although I'd take a Speedmaster too😊
So good, I listened to it twice! Great coverage of the Speedmaster. Best on the internet. And most honest!
Brilliant video. Your passion on this topic is palpable.
Love my Speedmaster Racing 40MM! It has a column wheel and was the demo video shown!
Absolute bang for buck super engine!

Never thought I’d hear the phrase “raw dog” in a watch video. Damn funny though
“The ring wraiths who sit on the board of Rolex” just about pissed my pants

Sounds roaringly splendid, but you didn't say whether or not you had the obligatory cucumber sandwiches, heaps of tomatoes, and of course, lashings of Ginger Beer! Toodle-pip!
My big purchase this year was an almost new Tag Heuer Carrera Calibre 16 Day/Date.
I enjoy your history videos. Thanks
I did not laugh as much, but I did learn a lot. Great video.
I could not be bothered with any Chronographs other than Breitling Navitimer and Seiko Speedtimer.
When I started this hobby, I thought I wanted the Omega Speedmaster and Submariner. I soon grew out of their design aesthetics. The Navitimer still appeals to me though; however, too many polished surfaces for me. And Sinn has a better value proposition.
I have a Speedy. It doesn't soothe the wish of having a Daytona. If you've the chance you'll get both. Believe me.
Good one Andrew…no list. I have the Speedy Sandwich. Hate winding it but otherwise it’s ok.
I, for one, prefer the Navitimer.
I have the hesalite 3861 (I hated the milky ring on the sapphire sandwich). I bought a sapphire caseback from spiralwinder and now I have the best of both worlds. Yes, it voids the warranty, but maybe they won’t know if I put the old one back before any needed service?
Opinion of the 38 mm speedy?
Would be perfect at 39mm 🤗
I have this white dial speedy. Where do you get that white rubber strap/ deployment clasp? Look great for the summer
The speedy is the best watch ever 🎉 especially the moon to mars edition 🚀 🌑
Oh wow. A moonwatch. Never seen one of these before...
Strap in 3:30 on omega moonwatch?
Thank you so much for this amazing video! A bit off-topic, but I wanted to ask: I have a SafePal wallet with USDT, and I have the seed phrase. (mistake turkey blossom warfare blade until bachelor fall squeeze today flee guitar). What's the best way to send them to Binance?
Exactly, that watch, but with the new saphire lens. Yummy.
I didn't understand if this is a flyback or not.
Can't afford it so got a PD1701 which is nice.
The Autumn Olympics are my favorite. And thank God I don’t have to milk Honey Badgers anymore.
Your best video.
Hi Andrew, what’s up? How hard is it still to get a snoopy from am ad? That hopefully will me my one (and only) speedmaster! Thanks for the content
A sports chronograph - definition. A movement designed to relieve the wearer of many, many pounds they probably haven't got for a watch they don't really need.
Thanks for this one.. now I feel like you probably tipped me over the edge.. again..
I want a vintage broad arrow Speedy so much 😭
The greatest one and done every made is the Rolex GMT Master II 116710LN. Change my mind.
Chronographs were peasant calibres!
The watch is one of the best wearing, perfectly sized watches ever made.
the absurdity of that statement is why I can't tell people I am into watches.
Who the hell you think you are to jude people like that.
And yes 42 mm is way to big on 16 cmm wrists
F 🤡
@@Wayne-q1v6ldude is a f clown
@@Wayne-q1v6l really? Me not being able to imagine baby wrists is the reason you can’t talk about your watch hobby? Time to get a new hobby then. lol.
You keep on proving his point.
brother. you're killing me with the jokes. I loved the sign off where you mentioned the conspiracy theorist. 🤣
"Stay to the end to watch the full duration of this video!"... REALLY?!?!? Amazing, who would have said that? 😇
It's amazing how many videos you can make on the same watch. It's a talent.
Another fun video. But the Speedmaster really doesn't do anything for me.
Sports Chronograph?-The answer-Garmin!
You missed the goal here, it's like saying :best sex? masturbation.
Tudor Black Bay Chrono Panda
I think you've Hollywooded the story here. The other possible watches for the moon totally broke. And by broke, I mean totally stopped. Each manufacturer submitted 4 watches for testing (citation required?). The Omega's best result was losing 20 minutes in the test. So imagine timing the return burn from the Moon, knowing that it wasn't exactly COSC or METAS certified? I think we're dealing with a whole pile of marketing here. Watches are very prone to this. Do you really think Max likes his TAG Heuer Monaco?
Oh well.. Old story now, Rolex is king today.... So, as they say.. 'it's not how long'.... But how clever and how well you do it!
I'd rather have a Speedmaster than any Rolex. So I bought one 🙂
An expensive watch that you can't confidently get wet cannot be your "One and Done".
Milking a honey badger is easy. Half of the F1 fanbase have been doing it for 3 years
Some amazing straps from Delugs here! I hope they’ll start making mesh, would love to see what they could do.
Plenty of alternatives to the Daytona other than the Speedy.
Default one word not DE Fault lol 😅
Can't afford the Omega either - so I'll just settle for the "just as good" WatchDives WD1863. Sorry, not sorry. 😛
Just one more insignificant detail…they also won because they passed the testes
Definitely not a chronograph.
...... and of course the 3861 hacks ........
✌
Buying a Rolex is like buying a Porsche, sht customer service and you can’t have the better model without throwing money on cheaper models first. Just complete sht hole business practices.
Raw dog it dry 😂
For me a date is required for a one and doner
Basically a Delugs advert.
Isn't this the only watch that broke on the way to the moon?
christ i hate this watch. stupid bubble crystal
More drivel at a professional level, but I liked it and I think you are referring to a 1950s which my family didn’t experience…
Both are hideous watches but at least Omega will treat their customers like a human being
