Dad bought one 2nd hand in 1969 to replace a mk 1 Consul Cortina 1200 Deluxe. It was a bench seat, column gearchange version and was finished in a metallic bronze. Lovely comfortable car and a great tow car for the Sprite Alpine caravan he bought at the same time. I wasnt old enough to drive on the road, but used to drive it on the driveway to the garage. It was reg. number AGT 894B, suppose its long gone now.
My dad had a white Zephyr 4. Might have been late 1960s. Unfortunately, it wasn't very good as it had been patched up in a lot of places where it had rusted. My mum wasn`t very happy about it. They had a very agreeable Humber Sceptre before that. On the housing estate where I grew up during the 1980s and 1990s there was a white Zephyr mark 3. It was parked outside a block of council flats. Might have been a 6 rather than a 4 and possibly belonged to an older relative of a classmate. It was striking to see even 35 years ago.
Unlike illustration I thought 4's had ribbed aluminium dash trim and a centre horn push rather than the 6's wood and horn ring. My grand father had a 1962 zephyr 6 mk 3 and I think always rated it far more fondly than the 1972 Consul 2.5L he replaced it with.
Interesting to see brochures of this old cars, never had brochures even from 70's cars, the 80's is the earliest I have. I do have two car magazines from the 70's though. Those look from another world as well with their cigarette ads, etc., like the statement about whistling in the Zephyr brochure :D The specs especially are interesting, things that later became standard, are here still optional extras, like heater, and lot more technical details are described, like the engine lubricating system. Ford Zephyr is before my time as well, and I don't recall seeing these myself (I'm born in the 70's).
The mark 3 zephyr/zodiac and Anglia 105e easily the best looking fords of that era..and not forgetting the mk1 lotus cortina,I also noticed the kerb weight of the zephyr..my 05 plate mini cooper beats it by 67 lbs, how times change
Very American looking, and this is only the base Zephyr, not the upmarket Zodiac. Looks like a big Mk1 Cortina or a Corsair. The Vauxhall Velox/Cresta was its main rival, and from BMC the Austin Westminster and Wolseley models. Replaced in 1966 by the square tank Mk4.
Much better car than the awful Mk4. The proven mechanicals were essentially the same as the Mk2. The 6 cylinder versions allways felt a little nose heavy. Personally if back in the 1960s if I had to make choice between the Mk 3 Zephyr/Zodiac and the Cresta PB I would have chosen the Cresta. Humber were ultra solid and reliable but were just a little too respectable for anybody under 40
Nice too see this ford zephyr, this model is a classic ford in 1960 used by the police in that time, how many left I the UK now
Didn’t come out till 62

Can you review The Ford Zephyr/ Zodiac Executive from 1972 the last one before the Granada.
I do have a Zodiac and Executive brochure not sure of the date though

Yep what was once a big car is now a small
car and what was once a small car is now a
big car - I don’t think anyone would have predicted that!

Byrne pronounced burn.
Can I have a copy of that Brochure please?
