That's a GENIUS goal, be sure to keep your "first of 2024" piece and your last at the end of the year, I bet you'll be SHOCKED by how much you level up. It's always about that consistency, I find!

Happy new year, Wes! The Acrylics experiment sound really interesting.

Happy New Year, brother!! I'm interested to see how much of a mess I make with them LOL

Missed you brother! Like the new look but going to miss the skull :) I bought a new PC and downloaded Krita and Painstorm Studio over the Xmas. Haven't even unboxed Painstorm yet because deep in the weeds with the Krita UI. But everything is based on your recommendation on your answer to my question on the Q&A video and I'm surprising myself. My resolution this year is to post up on the Discord for critique as much as I can. First up, my first photo study which I'm happy with for an initial effort. Next up a study of an aspect of a Frazetta which I know will be a disaster but it will give me a healthy dose of reality... and it will be fun to do. This is all down to you, Wes. These videos have given me the addiction of painting... my son too, we're learning Krita together. If you're doing a painting deep dive on MTG artists I recommend watching Jarel Threat. He does massive oils with a Frazetta sensibility. I hope you and the family have a great 2024... and I'm down for the tutorial idea. I commented before but I think I forgot to hit send but if this a double up, my apologies. Thank you for this healthy addiction. Peace 🤘

Brent, it's always a pleasure brother! Thank you tons for the support, and I hope you and yours are having a great New Years as well! I think one of my goals should've been to be more active on the Discord LOL, I need to keep that bad boy open all the time, it's been months since I logged on!

Wes, I just discovered your channel and listened to this video and a Q&A while playing Lord of the Rings Online. I am soooo glad to have come across your channel and artwork. Greetings and blessings ✨️

Thank you so much! Also, YESSSS for LotRO! I'm diving deep into ESO right now, but I always buy the newest expansions once they hit LotRO, it's a perfect fall-back game when I don't know what to play!

Looking forward to seeing some more videos Wes. I'm just getting into digital art now and my big goal is to just focus on value painting. I want to do black/white or some various monochrome colors and master that. (I like looking at color painting but not necessarily enjoy trying to paint it.) I wouldn't mind seeing a video on how to do a monochromatic piece BUT still giving it that painterly look. As far as particular subject matter, I'm interested personally in fantasy characters and such like you have done, but also I'd like to get into some of the pieces where you have your subject in the foreground but small and not really detailed with the focus on a mass background (mountains, storm, castles, caves etc.) Something that tells a story a bit more than a detailed focus character piece. Hope you reach your goals for the year!

Ohhhhh a value/black-and-white painterly tips video would be AMAZINGLY FUN to do, that's definitely on the list now! In fact, I'd argue that making really striking "painterly" pieces may be MORE impactful in purely black-and-white, with maybe a tiny dash of a saturated color somewhere to really draw the eye! Happy 2024 Dugrath!

Great goals! I want to level up my storytelling and composition too. That been said I think you are being a bit harsh on yourself! I love your work and I think sometimes just the colours can tell the story even if it is a more static pose. ☺️ I recently watched this Russian film called stalker and while it’s very artsy I was amazed how such a seemly boring scene could be transformed into something really intriguing just by the lighting. I just wanted to paint it by the end and I ended up doing some studies. By the way it’s free on you tube.

Thank you tons, Phillipa, you rock! I've never seen Stalker all the way through, but I remember it having some STUNNING visuals, and that sort of "dreadful but beautiful" moody atmosphere. I think there's something absolutely sublime about that kind of storytelling, good call! Happy 2024 to you!

@ArtOfWesGardner thanks! Thats an excellent way to describe the mood "dreadful but beautiful". It's definitely not for everyone and I only watched it to the end for the visuals haha. Happy New Year to you too.

My advice for increasing quality of videos is audio quality. It seems like it wouldnt mater, but it can really increase the proffessionalism of a video. I would reccomend a good mic, you get what you pay for in quality mics imo.

Great advice! I already have my Audio Technica 2020+ and boom mic stand, but I'm hopefully gonna save up for a nice Mirrorless Camera with some Bose shotgun mics. Having the portability, picture quality, AND sound quality could definitely be a huge level-up!
