It was made for competition, specifically Carry Optics division. Problem is that USPSA said it wasn’t legal because of the non dot not reciprocating with the slide.

I congratulate Laugo for actually doing something that steps out of bounds that most industries refuse to do, and that's re-engineering how a firearm is designed and made. Most of what we get now are cookie cutter guns, only differences are aesthetics of the pistol and a few minor mechanism changes. But it all ends up coming down to just picking your thing and go with it.
I always welcome really bold attempts to concepts akin to people like Browning or Eugene who strived to make a new plateau for firearm design.

Great review! You touched on many of the questions I had about the pistol that other reviewers failed to mention. The Alien has definitely peaked my interest for competition use. However, the overheating on the slide and frame after a few mag dumps and the slide bite has me leaning toward getting an Atlas Athena (w/ a shield safety) instead. What are your thoughts on the Alien pistol verses a high end 2011 for competition use?

It's cool to see Americans evaluating the best of what Czech 🇨🇿 has to offer. This pistol has character. A race pistol for the alien age. Imperfect pistol. I can see there will be revisions. The heat is a serious issue. I've seen this in other designs. Weird boutique firearms. I hope Laugo and Jan will keep developing this platform.

Not sure I would ever use this as a duty gun, but it does look like a nice competition or "novelty" gun

Looked like 0 recoil in the Bill drill at 10. Damn.

Its cool that its different but there are a lot of negatives. Its an interesting direction to head though , maybe some of those things can be fixed.

So with the overheating issues, it's not really a gun to use in competition or for class purpose. So is it a safe queen or trophy gun?

I’ve used it all last year in competition. Sure it gets hot but not unbearable.

In competitions you generally only fire 12-36 rounds at any given time.

Cool - I’m expecting my Alien soon
I’ll probably run the exact same drills initially so that was a good tutorial on what I too expect
I do shoot steel frame CZ’s and 1911’s a lot so I won’t be using as high a grip as I do on my polymers - that might mitigate the slide lock issue
The heat thing I’ve researched already - not too concerned but I compete and do 500 round sessions regularly so we’ll if that inhibits my training - don’t feel like getting grill marks on my thumb ..lol
I really .. really hope that the soundtrack on this video isn’t running thru my head the first time I take this hammer to the range 😐

This configuration will melt most polymers. Interesting to see how they go polymer with this. This is a demanding design to put in polymer. Very great design effort and certainly some decent outside the box thinking. Jan is an artist of the era. This is epic.

Check out the way Lancer Systems is selling parts before you buy. I would have never bought mine had I known what chicken shit games they are now playing.
