All Clara (Mackenzie Foy) wants is a key - a one-of-a-kind key that will unlock a box that holds a priceless gift. A golden thread, presented to her at godfather Drosselmeyer’s (Morgan Freeman) annual holiday party, leads her to the coveted key-which promptly disappears into a strange and mysterious parallel world. It’s there that Clara encounters a soldier named Phillip (Jayden Fowora-Knight), a gang of mice and the regents who preside over three Realms: Land of Snowflakes, Land of Flowers and Land of Sweets. Clara and Phillip must brave the ominous Fourth Realm, home to the tyrant Mother Ginger (Helen Mirren), to retrieve Clara’s key and hopefully return harmony to the unstable world.

I total loved it.
I apologize if this comes off as a rant but, The main part of the movie that i like that was closely accurate to the classic story was how beautifully grand the Christmas party was. But it was frustrating that clara who is supposed to have the nutcracker doll, didn't get the nutcracker. But her brother did who in original story was the one who broke the doll that made clara upset and heartbroken. Another part I like was how fun and mysterious uncle drusslemire (sorry if i missed spelled the name) was to be during the party. I hated the twists in the movie. It felt disrespectful to the original story. Also i didn't like that they didn't have the nutcracker look like an actual nutcracker during most of the movie and have enough of characters journey with clara as both of them are supposed to be the main important characters. Don't get me wrong the backgrounds, sets and costumes were amazing.
But The barbie nutcracker version was more faithful to the source material while also not trying to throw unnecessary twists. But instead show some creative ideas to fill in for the story. It had some action and adventure scenes that work well for a story for the nutcracker as well as give a character development journey for clara and the nutcracker to make them for being the main characters to be equals on the journey while having A love story between them.
Disney completely tries to avoid the love or romance with clara and the nutcracker which bothers me. As well change the roles of the mouse king who is actually this really creepy and dangerous villain character that attacks clara and the nutcracker
