You and your dad are very fortunate to be able to paddle and enjoy the outdoors together. I lost my dad 37 years ago when I was 29. My eyes got a little watery enjoying the two of you paddling down that beautiful river. Florida really is a great place to paddle, I need to make it down there one of these days. Thanks to you and your dad for the adventure!
As always, thank you so much Terry for watching, and commenting! I’m so sorry for the loss of your dad at such a young age for you & him as well. I hope you have lots of good times that you can remember back on with adventures with him.

Hi Cliff! I love seeing your dad out there with you. It's been 9 years since I my dad passed, and not a day goes by that I don't think of things I wish we could still do together or chat about. That said, my mom is 81, and still tries to do some tent camping with me. She'd also like to go on the Lower Salt River (in AZ) with me to see the Salties (our wild horses), but I don't think she can get in and out of the kayak--she has one shoulder that's just bone grinding on bone--ouch! Really enjoy this video. You always do such a wonderful job of mixing scenery with information without going into full lecture mode. 🙂 Question: Do you happen to have a brand of paddling gloves you'd recommend? I have a pair for winter (in AZ) paddling, but not summer, and I need something to protect from the sun and provide blister protection on exceptionally long paddling days. Thanks!
Thanks for watching and commenting AllonsY ! I hope you are able to do some adventures with your Mom. Maybe pivot and change how you approach the Lower Salt river. Maybe in a motorized Jon Boat. Or, the Sea Eagle PaddleSki is awesome as well. I’m posting a second video today with my Dad over the Memorial Day weekend, where we explored 14 miles up a remote creek in the Sea Eagle PaddleSki with the 5HP Honda. It was great, and now paddling for my Dad was required. It was relatively easy for him to get into as well. God’s blessings to you and your family and I’ll pray you find some cool adventures that you can still do with your Mom and her limited abilities! Take care!
Thanks Cliff! That looked a fun trip! I was planning on floating the Buffalo National River this weekend but some storms were forecasted so maybe the fall when it’s cooler. I really like watching all of your adventures!
Thanks for watching and commenting Terry! The Buffalo National River is definitely on my bucket list. Is it not ok to float this in the Summer, or is the water too low or something?
@@KayakCliff it depends on what section you want to put in at, we were going to put in at Hwy.65 bridge (St.Joe) and float down to North Maumee which is known as the middle section .The upper Buffalo usually is to low in the summer ( Ponca area which is where most of the elk are)
Hey Cliff...You're a lucky guy to have the opportunity to take your Dad on such an adventure. He certainly looked like an experienced paddler. The Sea Eagles were looking great and it gives me a prospective on how my Razorlite looks going through the water. Your videos inspired me to go with the Razorlite and after watching camping on the Brazos I've been gearing up for some kayak camping. I'm curious if you ever calculated the maximum weight you've carried in your 393 and how it performance and stability were affected carrying the extra gear. Appreciate any input.
Hi Ralph - On my Brazos river camping trip, I figure I had myself at 190lbs. + 75 - 85 lbs. of gear, which puts me at 265 - 275 lbs. gear and paddler. It was a little tippier, but I got used to it quickly and was even able to handle some fairly strong class 1 rapids. As far as speed, I feel that it is a little harder to get going, but once your are moving the laws of inertia kick in and the boat seems to go pretty fast as long as I keep paddling.
Hi Cliff, thanks for the video. You've inspired me to pull the trigger on the 393RL (I already own the 380X which I love but is slow on flat water). If I ever see you out in PA I'll be sure to say hi and hit you up for a sticker 🙂
Hi 👋 Charles - Thank you so much for watching and commenting! Absolutely, If we pass each other on the water, make sure to say hi!!! I was there a few months ago....I hiked some of the walking trails, I hope you got a chance to see Big Shoals? People kayak them. ...but I do not recommend doing that 🤔
I have heard of the big shoals but have not kayaked that far North up the river. Yes, I have heard that you should portage around those, instead of trying to shoot them in your kayak!
Great to see you paddling with your dad! Looks like a great event, may sign up for it! After watching many of your videos, I seem to see the Razorlite in more videos than any other portable kayak. Would it be safe to say it is your favorite? I finally got a chance to paddle a 393RL at a local club event. Paddled very well, but not sure if it was that much faster than my 385 Fast Track? Your thoughts?
Hi Gil - While I like the FastTrack 385 for the ability to stand up in, for me, my main go to and favorite all around kayak is the RazorLite. It seems to fit me best for the type of paddling I do, unless I’m in big white water, then I use the Explorer! Safe adventuring out there and a Happy Memorial Day weekend if you are in the states!
Looks like a great adventure. Trying to get my 63yr old dad out from just his second paddle soon. Considering the razorlite 473. How does it handle solo? Likely a camping boat with my dog (75lbs) as well. I think the 393 would be a tight fit with camping gear.
Hi 👋 Brian - i’m actually planning a kayak camping trip this fall in the RazorLite 473 RL. I just ordered 4D rings to install in the middle of the RazorLite 473RL, so I can get my seat position exactly where I want it. I think it will work phenomenally and allow me to carry a lot of gear by still having a lot of room in the boat. No, I don’t think you would do well at all with your camping gear and a 73 pound dog and yourself in a 393 RL. Definitely would not work. I am really excited to try this out! @@KayakCliff thanks Cliff! It can sometimes be difficult to judge size with some of the videos out there and not having anywhere around me where I can actually view products really makes choices difficult. 473 it is for dog camping!
Hi 👋 there, thank you so much for watching the video and your questions! That’s awesome that you want to get out with your young boys, it’s all about making memories! I think it all boils down to what type of stability you want? What is your weight? The RazorLite is very fast and very efficient with great stability for a higher performance kayak. I would suspect that your boys will get antsy and will want to move around the boat quite a bit. If that is the case, the fast track is probably your best option. With the fast track, you sacrifice about a mile per hour paddling speed so, whereas the RazorLite will get 3 1/2 to 5 1/2 mph average to maximum speeds, the fast track will get 2 1/2 to 4 1/2 mph Average to fast speeds. I hope this helps, I am pasting down below, all of my videos in both of these boats. Nice trip for you and your Dad. Would like to check this area out. Just curious; noticed that you appear to be the only folks with inflatables. As a newbie with a Sea Eagle Explorer 300X, any bias or negative opinions from the hard shell folks?
Actually, the more I am out with my different sea eagle inflatables, the more people show interest, and want to learn more! Most people have a problem today with storing large full-size kayaks, transporting them, or even carrying them to the water. There's always, what I call the purists, who will look down upon them. But the average paddler, really like them, and are intrigued by them! Once people get inside them and paddle them, they're amazed at how they perform as well as their quality.
Hello John - By “Ocean Surfing” I’m assuming you are referring to riding the swells, while out in open water and paddling. I have never done this in the ocean, but I have been in big lakes where there were large swells, that picked me up and carried me as I was paddling out in open water. Not sure I would call it an ocean surfing kayak, but it did well in 2’ following swells. I would not use this boat for surfing at the shoreline, where large waves break, it is definitely not a boat for that. Here are other videos of me in the Razorlite. I also have my product affiliate link there too. Purchases through my affiliate link don’t cost you any more, they just help to support my channel and new videos. Safe adventuring out there John! @@KayakCliff does the razorlite sometimes have a hard time to follow other hard shell sea kayaks? And what max speed can Hard shell sea kayaks can go based on your experience?
The sea eagle razorlite will paddle comparably to 12 - 14’ hard shell touring kayaks. Sea Kayaks are typically 15’ and larger and narrower, you would not be able to keep up with a long and narrow sea kayak in the RazorLite, even though the RazorLite is a fast boat for it’s size.
Actually, I’m concerned about as much as I am for sharks when I’m at the beach. Sure, accidents can happen, and I do think about it, sometimes, but they are extremely rare.

It seems to fit me
best for the type of paddling I do, unless I’m in big white water, then I use the Explorer! Safe adventuring out there and a Happy Memorial Day weekend if
you are in the states!
Here are some other videos of me and razorlight.

@@KayakCliff thanks Cliff! It can sometimes be difficult to judge size with some of the videos out there and not having anywhere around me where I can actually view products really makes choices difficult. 473 it is for dog camping!
Hey Cliff, I’m a dad with 2 boys (2,6) Looking for something to take them out in on the weekends. 473RL or one of the fast tracks?
Both of these boats are great options for you, you will, especially love how easy they are to fold up and store when you are finished.

@@KayakCliff thanks cliff
Does the sea eagle razorlite also work properly in ocean surfing?
Hello John - By “Ocean Surfing” I’m assuming you are referring to riding the swells, while out in open water and paddling. I have never done this in the
ocean, but I have been in big lakes where there were large swells, that picked me up and carried me as I was paddling out in open water. Not sure I would
call it an ocean surfing kayak, but it did well in 2’ following swells. I would not use this boat for surfing at the shoreline, where large waves break, it is
definitely not a boat for that.
Here are other videos of me in the Razorlite. I also have my product affiliate link there too. Purchases through my affiliate link don’t cost you any
more, they just help to support my channel and new videos.

Sea Kayaks are typically 15’ and larger and narrower, you would not
be able to keep up with a long and narrow sea kayak in the RazorLite, even though the RazorLite is a fast boat for it’s size.
Is nobody concerned about alligators?
Actually, I’m concerned about as much as I am for sharks when I’m at the beach. Sure, accidents can happen, and I do think about it, sometimes, but they are extremely rare.
@@KayakCliff That's cool. I'm one of those people who is terrified of murky water.
