- Note: I'm reviewing the PS4 emulated version, not the PS2 original.
Usually, films and video games have a terrible relationship. While there are exceptions like Middle Earth: Shadow of Mordor and Alien: Isolation, these titles typically get panned by critics and consumers alike. Made by Rainbow Studios and published by LucasArts in 2002, Star Wars: Racer Revenge is the sequel to their other game, Star Wars: Episode One Racer.

Yeah, I remember the not being able to replay courses for extra money was a thing in the original too. At least you could go around and collect pit droids and try to buy used parts to get an edge but I think I stopped playing it cuz it got so hard at the end and I couldn't afford any new parts.
This is gonna sound weird, but while the models of the vehicles are better in this one, I feel like the animations are better in the older game. The flaps extend more and the turns feel sharper. I like that opponents can crash now, but I agree that they took what could have been a neat feature and put too much emphasis on it. It should have been more of an opportunistic thing, like “well, we’re neck and neck and this is a narrow passage. May as well.”
I'll give developers credit for making something completely new, and simply not porting over Episode 1 racer, although an updated 60fps version on the PS2 would've been welcomed.
Fun game, but Episode 1 Racer was definitely the better game.
Biggest issue with this game honestly is just the emphasis on destroying your opponents pods. It starts off with just being a bonus, but later on it becomes a necessity. I recall being stuck after a certain point and could no longer progress because I was not only expected to win in first place, but also to destroy like half of the other racers in the process.
Play the game and see if you can manage that kind of nonsense at high speed.
yeah i had the dreamcast version of the first game, that was definitely my favorite podracer game.
I just beaten the game, without KOs, its hard, but its possible if you are good enough, you just practice each track and learn their layouts, EZ wins

Both pod racer games suffer from what you mentioned: empty barren worlds. I guess they had to cut corners on track gfx to keep the speed high.
I just hate how you're far away from everyone in 1st place and then magically, all of a sudden everyone catches up to you and starts ramming you
Me and my brothers played this a LOT.
Man, I could not disagree with you more. Firstly, you absolutely do not need to KO any opponents to beat the game. Using Anakin's Podracer and taking the minimum payout from each race, the tournament is easily beatable. Doing this then unlocks Sebulba, who has stats that are so good, that you can set most the records racing as him. Although if you do the tournament as Sebulba, you unlock Episode 1 Selbulba, who has even better stats. The only time the game requires that you interact with the KO system is to unlock Darth Maul.
Sure, if you want to get gold medals with every single racer, you might need to get KOs with the heavier pods to buff your stats, but they are better at taking down your opponents anyway. Also, this doesn't really make sense as a goal. 100%ing the game just require unlocking all the racers, which can be done without ever racing as anybody besides Anakin and the hidden characters. There's literally no reason to race as anyone else, unless you really like them as a character and just want to.
I think the controls are much better in this game than its prequel, and crashing your pod ends the race, which makes you engage with the repair system in a more meaningful way.
This game is also just cool. Every game needs Darth Maul as a secret character, it would literally improve any game. Episode 1 racer for N64 is more beloved by N64 owners, but that's because there were barely any games for that system. The boost mechanic in that game is just so weird, and the N64 controller is weird too. The analogue buttons of the dualshock 2 make for a much more pleasant experience. Also the upgrade system is simpler, the game is shorter, and it's more focused on risk vs. reward, which is perfect for podracing.
I think you are dead wrong that Episode 1 Racers is better, as this game trims away all the fat, and is much leaner and punchier.

@@BehemothBeastReviews grand, but you dont HAVE to upgrade every one to max stats to finish the campaign mode, just any racer will have done it, and the more you break and run off characters, the more you will get first place each track and progress will stain!, then unlock the other racers by acompleting bonus tasks in order to complete the game! and using cheats to ease the gameplay makes it jus best better!

I had no idea this game existed till today. I just bought the Xbox port of Episode I Racer.

Okay this was informative and all… but was it fun?
I like playing the original from time to time because I like the nostalgia, but it was also fun because of the mechanics. Like playing the original Wii Mario kart.

You don't have to max upgrade a racer to basically be unbeatable if you know what you are doing.
It would be nice if you couldn't upgrade it fully without having to do a bunch of tedious stuff though. It's downloading now so I don't know if there any other ways to make money or if you can replay the campaign, because I'm going to want to try to Max everything out 😅
@@zacziggarot you can but it's tough. You will basically leave to ko most of the racers every race and get 1st place to max it out completely
@@Evanx373 yeah I'm noticing that, they really did make the game reliant on fights. I'm wondering if I can make more money by getting third place the first round so then I can go back and get the remaining prize money later both times being over par
@@zacziggarot if you get par and 1st place on every track you can max out all stats except 2 and those 2 wll be around 60 to 70% complete. you still have more than enough points to max out cooling, handling, acceleration, and top speed. I think once you finish a race in the tournament you can only retry it if you do it immidiatly after finishing.
@@Evanx373 so yeah cuz I finished up with one character I almost got them to Max but I didn't worry about the bounty thing at all for the last race so I don't care that I only have two things left it's for defense I don't need defense anymore.
But I see that I can challenge any of the races again and they all say that they have zero out of zero trug nuts because I have first place medals on all of them. I'm wondering if you get silver or bronze the first time around if you can retry the races. Right now I'm trying to play through where I'm over par or at least par on every race but I don't worry about what medal I get to see if I can retry races for more prize money.
This game is a giant turd compared to the N64 racer. The pods handle like golf carts with flat tires in mud. I can’t believe they created this on a newer system after making the first racer masterpiece.

It's not a bad game at all, I mean this is 2002 we are talking about, and his point about maxing out the racer is a moot one because you can become unbeatable without taking any other racer out quite easily
@@Evanx373 yeah it feels like the racing kind of got tossed aside for the bounty mechanic. You can usually blast ahead of the opposition up until the last few stages
