The old ruined houses in alkout are about 200 years old and they've been abandoned and crumbled with time. Also qaisariah souq is one of the oldest in the region it was built back in 1822. Welcome to alhasa doug it's been a pleasure to see you exploring the city, hope you come back again and stay a little longer, there are still lots to do and see .
You should go and vist Albah in a car
The old ruins in Kout were abandoned and because they were built with mud and grass .they were damaged over the time because of the rain. We do not have earthquakes in the area. Shoutout for ALHASA and its lovely people.

It's not friendly when its come to living as foreigner Because your Entire life is gonna be Dark hell when your Residentialship get Expire and on top of this they're charging illegal Taxes on forigner Families.
If you're coming on Tourist trip. You're more welcome and if you wanna live for life then I don't Recommend coming to this country at all.

في الحديث الصحيح يقول الله جلَّ وعلا: يُؤذيني ابن آدم؛ يسبُّ الدهر، وأنا الدهر، أُقلِّب الليل والنَّهار، فمعنى أنه الدهر: يُقلِّب ليله ونهاره، ويُصرِّف شؤون هذا الدهر بين العباد، فلا يُسبُّ الدهر؛ لأنَّ سبَّ الدهر معناه سبّ للذي يُصرِّف شؤونه .
فلا يجوز للمسلم أن يسبَّ الدهر
صحيح انت ماسبيت الدهر ولكن قلت لو الدهر نساك والله سبحانه وتعالى لاينسى

In regards to your inquiry about the old buildings in the old town, they have already been abandoned and they get damages because of erosion. I think they are kept to preserve architectural heritage of historical and cultural value for place identity.
Just to mention, Al-Hasa is a big city and one week is not enough to cover! However, your fingerprint in demonstrating some sides of the city was amazing for one-day trip.

I used to work in Dhahran , KSA, for 5 years in the King Abdulaziz military hospital. We stayed in apartments in Al-Khobar which was very close to the causeway to Bahrain. The local people and food were great. Shopping for gold jewelry and buying branded cosmetics were our favorite thing to do. I wish I could travel back as a single woman tourist.
I liked it when the nice Saudi man took the priority to show you some traditional places without exaggeration in making feasts or so on .. but believe me, there are much more in Alhasa either traditional or fancy places.. come again and check them out .. you are most welcome ..

Doug, have you tried kabsa and Mandi in little Yemen (which resembles a Saudi neighborhood somewhat) in the Bronx white plains road? Al waha restaurant is my favorite and the qahwah coffee house in Williamsburg Brooklyn. For someone who was born in Jeddah , grew up in NYC and originally from Bangladesh, your content is the perfect mix!
