Sparklehorse gave me the confidence to produce my own music without need for any following, approval, or praise. The process is itself a joy and simultaneously a reward.
I hope someday the “love and support” for artists will occur in their lifetime. Attaching stature based in part on mortality is a futile move, and diminishes the artists work. If they perish before recognition, it isn’t necessarily unrecognized genius. It is the public that is lacking. I think those into morbid fan activity ought to convene in Memphis on the anniversary of Elvis Presley’s death. You will have plenty of company. People that cannot celebrate his birth. Inarticulate, self centered “fans”. I doubt either Linkous or Smith would have ever indulged themselves.
One of the best bands I ever saw live...and Mark was in a wheelchair. The whole Blake connection was personal for me.Their version of London is gorgeous. Sail on Mr. Linkhouse.
When you have true talent will touch the hearts of many.. I am a black man in Los Angeles.. I grew up around so many different cultures, and vibes.. I listen to their music every week.. So that shows you music is universal.. And therapy.. Such a beautiful thing..
I was hoping I could get to see him perform in Leeds as I missed it last time. The show I was told was amazing and the audience stood with slack jaws listening to the amazing songs that we know. I'll miss this but most important I'll miss anything new Mark had in the pipeline! Out of the bands or artists I enjoy Mark was tiptop right there and it's such a shame that he didn't share the enjoyment he gave me! If there is another life (there aint) I hope he is happy
They were incredible live. I saw them three times. I can't recall a better band live...sorry, I hope this doesn't make you feel bad. His connection with Blake runs deep for me. The first album is a gem, while the 90's was going on, Sparklehorse were creating their own universe, and they did it so well.
@LfunkeyA. I didn't say that this year is happy, or not. There was only derision in my sentence, I thought it was obvious, but my English is approximative. I hope it's more clear now.
He should have died of an overdose then didnt... But as he cut off the blood supply to his legs whilst keeled over high he spent weeks in hospital... Then decided it would be a good Idea to check out with a gun.... His choice... Surprised he lasted as long as he did.... Good music though.... Actually meant something
This doesn't feel like Mark Linkous at all, after having seen that Mark Linkous is Sparklehorse documentary. This just feels pretentious, trying to push his music in a corner.
who the fuck said this year is happy? fuck the new year mentality. nothing is new, a new year is not a restart of time, it is just a continuation of the shit that has been going on for quite some time now. R.I.P. Mark.

couldn't agree more
That's a success story my friend.
So incredible.. and inspiring.. 💯
would love to hear it
Mark Linkous and Elliott Smith RIP

Can I include Jason Molina?
And Vic Chesnutt.
Genius is always dismissed as insanity at first. Only when the genius leaves us we truly appreciate it.
few years and he will be reminded as one of the greatest musicians of our age. just as nick drake...
RIP. Absolute legend.
Sparklehorse and Mark Linkous? Genius, moving and utterly beautiful poetry xx
sadly missed, my favourite group, don't want to say genius as its overused but I believe he was. Never get tired of listening to those first 3 albums
RIP. Reminds me of my mum. rest in peace to you both. Fuck its so hard not to give in

Every now and then I wonder what he's up to.
Then I remember...... :(
Look at this the BBC when journalists didn't bait their guests for gotcha moments!
It's 6:38 in the morning and I'm enjoying this
definately the brightest best sounding music ever ( has anyone ever had better quality of production?)
I would put The Avalanches right up there
An utter genius x
What a great band
What a genius
RIP Mark. God speed.
When Matador died, so did a lot of great music, as well as Artists.
So good.
02:32 is a masterclass on not realising when to pounce on a golden pun
I grew up in this man's hometown and never heard anything about him. Strange.
Rest in peace.

Few are just born that way

That dude at the end is THE worst
Wait, this guy is dead? I'm bummed. How did he die?
Shot himself in the heart while very drunk sitting in an alleyway.
Very poignant interview, given what happened to Mark Linkous. Very sad that he is gone, very sad
Yeah no shit! What the hell is that? Do we give props to the BBC for showing both sides of the coin?
This doesn't feel like Mark Linkous at all, after having seen that Mark Linkous is Sparklehorse documentary. This just feels pretentious, trying to push his music in a corner.

After he got involved with these sellouts, he was sacrificed
Wow Tim Minchin is SOOO annoying !!!!
Beatle #9 tell me about it. so bizarre to see it right next to the beauty that was the sparklehorse act

I guess he did go insane. RIP
