A little late to replying, I just put Melling JB-817 hydraulic flat tappet lifters in a Chev. big block, mild street engine. They looked like the ones you showed regarding surface finish. The boxes indicate they were made in Mexico. Engine was broken in with Lucas high-zddp break-in oil for one hour and then dyno tested to 5500 a few times - no issues.
Thanks for the review and - Phew, Paypal can be a pal sometimes. IDK if it's the same Hughes as for Transmissions, but I do have the deep finned cast aluminum pan with drain plug. Looks the part in box. I am considering Rhoads for street use 383 NA TBI but unsure of their regular or V-Pro with 288/298 444/466 lift cam.
I had a set of OEM SBF lifters with a few minor scratches in the face here and there. I was a little concerned but it has not been a problem. I couldn't feel them with my fingernail or pick but could see them. Bought a set of USA Johnson lifters from Oregon cam and a couple of them are the same way. The set of lifters I sent into them to have reground with a couple of cams look awesome though.

I had great luck with Comp's DLC coated lifters. I had a hardened cam and used full synthetic 10w30
I would have liked to see how lifters from Comp Cams compared to the others.
I had a Lunati Voodoo installed in my 383 Chev a couple years ago without any issue

Had a set of Hughes lifters presenting the same issue of scratches on the face. I won’t be using them. Will use Isky cam and lifter set
Get Australien crow cam lifters
