Did you even listen to the lyrics? Or just the catchy beat?
I’m writing a story about Pompeii, and listened to this and started c r y i n g 😭 I can’t even imagine those last few moments. Especially for those who died-but those who lived, who fled, looking back on their home being destroyed, knowing it was the last time they would ever see their home, their pet, the business that had been in their family for generations-and their families themselves. Imagine the people displaced by that and how drastically their lives would be changed. Jesus. It’s so hard to humanize this event because of how long ago it happened, but once you do it tears through you.
Now I’m crying 😢
The beauty of the novels it's the fact you can talk about every epoque, because human feelings are the same in every time
As someone who was a survivor of the 2018 Camp Fire in Paradise, California. I miss the town the way it was. I miss my dead friends and the animals I used to pet. I drove through flames and exploding trees while seeing screaming people run from exploding vehicles. Peoples tires melted on the road. I have barely been surviving. This song has helped so much. @@RhedRatcliff i mean we fell inlove with songs like this
While taking latin in highschool, my teacher had us read a story about this family who lived in pompeii. It was a nice, cute story that taught us the language while letting us get attached to the characters.
On the final days of the class, the story ended with the volcano erupting, and everyone in the family besides the older brother died. My teacher played this song at the beginning of class, was crazy.
Wow I never remember the names of good songs but this, its a masterpiece
Just some cool facts about the lyrics in relevance to the actual event:
“If you close your eyes, does it almost feel like nothing changed at all”- This is referring to the black smog and ash the volcano brought over the town. It was almost impossible to see with your eyes open so it wasn’t much different from having your eyes closed.
“Where do we begin? The rubble or our sins?”- Many people in the town thought the volcano was erupting as a punishment for any sins they had committed.
“Does it almost feel like you been here before?/In your pose as the dust settles around us.”- The eruption consumed the city so quickly that many of the people were buried stuck in the same position they were in right before they died.
As mentioned a few comments below, the “Eheu” throughout isn’t just a noise. It actually means “Oh dear” in Latin.
Just read horrible geography violent volcanoes
I think the part about sinning is because Pompeii was very sex-crazed, and would paint paintings of naked children and having sex with animals and children as well, but I’m not very sure

For those wondering what the deeper meaning of this song is, he’s talking about the city Pompeii, that was destroyed by a volcano. “The walls kept tumbling down in the city that we love” means that he was thinking of Pompeii walls crushing down due to the volcano. “But if you close your eyes” meaning he’s imagining a happier time, as the volcano erupts and he’s waiting for death. “I was left to my own devices” meaning that life in Pompeii was not very exciting, and everyone was left to their own things. “Great clouds roll over the hills bringing darkness from above” meaning the volcanic ash that cover Pompeii. With all this new information, you can truly enjoy the song and understand what’s happening

The Pompeii Volcano erupted in 79AD
"I was reading a book that had some picture of the people who got caught up in the volcanic eruption. And it’s just such a kind of dark powerful image, and it got me thinking about how boring it must have been emotionally after the event. To be sort of stuck in that same position for hundreds and hundreds of years. So, the song is sort of an imaginary conversation between these two people who are stuck next to each other in their sort of tragic death pose."
Great Song

I love this song it holds so much nostalgia and it’s kid friendly it reminds me that we grow up so fast so live a wonderful life
This song is much more than about the ruins of Pompeii. It ties the present day with the past. In a sense, we are in the figurative last days of Pompeii when people don't realize the significance of what is coming. They see ominous signs about them but still so easily ignore those signs, being lost in their vices. Those vices are everything that keeps us unaware of what is really going on. They are the temptations and the sins that occupy humanity and keep it from truly living and from truly loving. It is not inevitable that all of us will perish with our cities and with our societies, as evidence from Pompeii even shows that there are many who had seen the looming signs and left their old lives behind in it and restarting a new life elsewhere. This is what God wants each of us to do, to give up our old habits, our old behaviors, and all those things that kept us from the truth and feeling our truest heart that is set there by our Heavenly Father. We are to make the decision, like those who left Pompeii before the explosion, to make the firm decision to give up their old lives to live a new way led by God who is waiting at the center of their hearts. We are to give up behaviors and thoughts that keep us from truly having a heart that is with God and from
coming not only to God but also to each other. We are not meant to live lives separate from others or from the world. We are meant to remain connected to all of it in the ways God wants us to be. We must respect the divine order of God if we are to live life to the fullest. So, repent of that type of life and ask your true spiritual father and Jesus into your heart and expecting them to cleanse it and your life of those things that keep you from thriving in life. You are meant to be happy, successful, and be thriving. Simply, say to yourself, "I choose to repent of all my sins, even the ones I don't know about. I want a new life like Jesus had described so long ago. Please come into my heart, Jesus, and show me the right way. Thank you." Then, keep thinking about and talking with God when you can. May each of you be blessed and have a new and changed life through Jesus who comes into your heart more and more. Please make that simple decision today to live better and better. May you be blessed.

2003 kid, but man, do I missed the stuff of the last decade. Freaking gold. Our country is a 3rd world country, so we couldn't grow up with most of the stuff ya'll grew up with (we didn't have full internet access till like, 2014 or something) but we did get to experience that stuff later. Honestly, I grew up with sticks and stones AND the best of both decades.
