    I am gay, I come from a black family, they are religious and when I came out to my dad he used to beat me daily and tell me I am dishonouring the family. It wasn't easy for me but things got better when I moved out, he still doesn't accept me to this day though. My mother was always a little more understanding but wasn't happy about it. Anyways if you are going through the same situation then just remember things are only going to get better.

      Joy Imohi depends on where you're living. if you're gay and white in Russia that's worse than being gay and black in america. Also, being gay and white in very conservative families in the south, right here in the us might be harder than gay and black in LA. so location and CONDITIONS matter. privilege is not something you can apply to every member of a group. privilege is very much individual

      What is with America and it's damn race problems? I know some gay blacks who are loved in their families, I know some white gays who got kicked out of home. It has nothing to do with your race, it's about whether you're lucky enough to be in a caring home with accepting family members. Plenty of white people living in palaces wish their lives could be different.

    I'm a gay black man. My dad and his side of the family is the worst. It's okay to be a womanizer and to watch porn, as long as it's straight. But it's never okay to be gay and be in love with someone who has a penis like you. 🙄
    My mom, sister and a host of cousins (male and female) have been nothing short of supportive. I think the way some black Americans think is generational. My dad's father was a preacher and he was against homosexuality.... even though he was bisexual.

I see nothing wrong with it and it pains me when I hear stories of parents being disappointed in their child because of their sexual preferences. Wow, this is so great, thank you guys for posting it. This is why I created this webseries, as a gay Black man in London, I felt that I was underrepresented in media. I would love it if you could give it a watch and tell me what you think about it? 🌈💜

    This is a great video. If anyone is looking for a book that speaks to this experience, I have a book recommendation for you. Eddie & Alan is written by black gay author Anthony Amiewalan. It sheds light on the complexities of relationships between men, the fluidity of sexuality, and what happens when the lines are blurred.

    Being black and gay sucks. It's really does. Not only do you have to go through the black struggle, you are rejected by black folk too. When my mom found out about me, she said she love me, but made sure I knew I was going to hell. My dad was in the household too. He rarely speaks to me now. I'm not ostracized. I can come to holiday dinners, and that is the few times I talk to my family

      HolyBiscuit69 why do you think you're privileged, because there are more white people in America. giving the white guy a higher chance of hitting the lottery. not because of the things that happened over 200 years ago. and being straight does not give you privilege either. gays have just as many rights as you. even the lgb, I don't even care any more. also I'm not a slave I'm a free brown teenager who can almost do whatever he wants with the same opportunity as anybody else.

    • @slimmboy07

      I'm assuming you are non black. So it is easy for you to try to compare two things that have nothing to do with the other. It is not like saying its harder to be black with a headache. Culturally gay in black communities is looked at more viciously than in other cultures. The same way it is worse to be gay in Jamaica than it is in America. It is a crime in Jamaica, whole towns beat and kill homosexuals. You can't compare apples and oranges. (Your statement diminishes our experience)

    • @tacosmexicanstyle7846
      @tacosmexicanstyle7846 6 років тому +3

      If you can't accept it then that doesn't sound like unconditional love. Unfortunately people especially throw around this concept of "I disagree with your life but I love you." To us this is quite feeble and valueless. It becomes more work to maintain a relationship with this type of person than benefit is derived. I should expect anyone on the receiving end of this reasoning to look elsewhere for love, in which case you might find yourself with a crumbling family should this situation ever arise.

    • @Imnotallergictopeanuts
      @Imnotallergictopeanuts 6 років тому +1

      As long as you respect your grandson and don’t condemn him then of course you can have your own opinion, if you don’t hurt or insult him. Just know that not everyone is religious but you can always find balance within respect.

    It’s similar in the UK unfortunately. I’m white but prefer black guys. So have seen the brick wall my ex’s have faced. I’m working class and from an area that is very macho. I learned to adapt that much that I have had to have arguments with close straight friend guys when I tell them. Partners tell me they like me because I’m straight acting whatever that means. Somehow we have been oppressed that much as communities that we have evolved into oppressing ourselves.

People who happen to be different from you are still "normal" at least when used in the same context as you. I hope you understand that I'm not trying to throw shade, I'm just explaining☺☺☺

    Well when it comes to homosexuality it's different when it involves African Americans because it's a part of a cultural trauma.
    Back when African slaves were kept on plantation slave women were not only raped but slave men aswell by their slave masters. They did this often to make male slaves dossile by stripping them of their dignity as a man and they did this infront of their family's. If he was particularly more strong or tall they did this to reduce them so that they'd feel subjugate and less of what they were. So that the group no longer felt inpowerd by him as a potential leader to rise against and rebel.
