I just bought this game a few weeks ago and that’s exactly why I chose to only buy this DiRT game. Very arcade style! I love arcade racing games and I really miss them. There are not many of them nowadays, and it’s pretty disappointing DiRT Showdown is super underrated and a lot of fun. It was what I was looking for in a modern Rally game and it delivers!
I agree! I loved dirt showdown. And imo, physics is still superior to dirt 5. Dirt games back then were a lot of fun. Dirt rally is really great, but not arcade at all. Dirt 5 is boring with a poor handling model. And even if technically, dirt 4, rally 1/2, 5 are superior, I still find that dirt 3/showdown are more pleasing to watch. The old games were very colourful with exagerated light and reflection effects. People may think it's not realistic, but what's the point?! Reality looks boring most of the time...
I bought this game 5 years ago, and it's a great arcade game. That's what I really like it. Modern car games tend to be more "natural", but hey, you should have some fun once in a while, and not taking stuff serious!
What really pissed me off with that game is that it was physically impossible to make enough money to buy and max out every car the game without playing online.
I still play the game from time to time, this weird mix of carnage and stunts, backed by amazing music, yet in relatively small package of few maps and cars, is actually enjoyable, it's sad it was removed for purchase (due to copyrights expirations) and also R.I.P. Ken Block :/
Dirt Showdown has an incredible potential , if they putted more effort on the physics it would be the one of the best game of this category, but the way the gane was , was already super fun.
As someone who 100%ed DiRT 2, 3, and Showdown, i absolutely agree with almost everything you said here. The game didn't know what it wanted to be, and ended up being mediocre at both sides of the coin It definetily has its good moments, but not nearly as often as other DiRT games. Nice to see someone made a video about it :D
@@firstnamelastname6738 eh, i can see where you're coming from. It defo lacks the soul dirt 2 or even 1 had. It has slightly better graphics and more cars, but imo its more repetitive and gets boring more quickly than 2. I like both of these a lot though, sooo to each their own i guess ^-^
compared to the rain tracks in GT7 the rain even in Dirt on ps3 is visible. Aaaand it is offline in the single modus. Its worth mentioning cause nowadays its not guaranteed we just rent the game, and when the servers go offline, we were forced to pay for a newer titel
DiRT5 is pretty much DiRT Showndown 2. They've just changed how they name the games, and didn't include destruction derby. Dirt 4 was essentially a Dirt Rally game, and now Dirt 5 is essentially a DIrt Showdown game with circuit events. Wreckfest is pretty much the king of arcade rally games now though.

Don't get me wrong, I do love gaming essay videos, but many can feel like they have too much additional information that doesn't really fit into the main point of the video. Having a retrospective wouldn't necessary address what went wrong with a particular game, you know what I mean?
I like it more than the others DiRT games. I played DiRT 3 and 4 and let me tell you that I can't control the car. It feels so hard for me btw I'm a fan of old style arcade racing games and not a fan of reaching simulators so probably that is the reason why I like DiRT Showdown more.
I remember playing this whole game 2x without owning the game thx to blockbuster one of the best racing games n is under appreciated and unknown like blur and split second
It's extremely refreshing to hear that favorite doesn't mean the best as I think many people forget that. I have games that are my favorite, but in a series sense, they aren't the best.
i don't remember this game containing any rally events. Only derby, rallycross-ish and some PGR filler events. It was good fun tho, even if a little halfbaked. Maybe Distruction Derby Arenas for the ps2 could be concidered a dirt type game in this regard.
First dirt game i played, didn't even know it was a franchise until dirt rally but i didn't play sims back then and stopped after crashing into the trees. Nowadays dirt 4 is fun af
I dont know, I liked it. People will complain on anything it seem. I'm a huge DiRT fan and this game was kinda fresh. But I agree on every flaw you mentioned, especially the handling. It was waaaay too dummy proof. Flatout 2 cars had weight, while in Showdown the tyres were made of glue or something. Cant really call it DiRT if you cant get loose slip angle. Solid video man.
this game i used to first play on my ps3 on the demo, then much later on we got the full game and i gotta say even the demo somehow managed to be kinda fun
This game is hands down the GREATEST game I ever played. Pretty much all of the dirt games are good especially dirt 3, dirt 4 and showdown. Sadly it never took off😢
They really should bring this game back but taking on wreckfest role instead. The game was fun but I do indeed see the flaw you mean. The biggest turn off being cars won't flip over and weight distribution. Actually something truly does need to give because I can't see enough reason to buy ps5 yet
Yes I know and that is a similar to The Crew 2 with demolition derby, 8-Ball Race, Street car Race and a new release mode The Agency - Break the Target before time runs out. A little bit similar to Monster energy cars events but slower grips in The Crew 2. Yep The Crew 2 has everything only left is “Kart mode” when you need grab an item and shooting other cars😌👏🏼👏🏼
I don't know what happened but in a way it seems like it wasn't promoted well. Even the announcement trailer is kinda vague after I checked it out. When I first heard about it I thought it would be awful and after 10 years I checked it out and prefer it over DiRT 3 since showdown actually had the theme that fit gymkhana compared to 3 who should've just been pure rally in my opinion.
Coming from someone that's played Test Drive: Eve of Destruction and Flatout: Ultimate Carnage more than anything else, it seems nothing recent comes close to being as good. While I enjoyed Showdown, it just makes me want to play the game aforementioned. Even Wreckfest is flawed to the point where I want to go back to the days of more customizations, better soundtracks, realistic damage models, realistic handling, and a more engaging experience. I refuse to buy a current Gen console as Xbox One games left me feeling there was lot to be desired.
DiRT Showdown didn't really worked for me because it felt like a quick small project with DiRT 3 leftovers. It's ok, the controls are somewhat unintuitive (won't say the game is too easy because it's not) and gymkhana part of this game is an acquired taste: it was one of the biggest complaints about DiRT 3 (although I like it I can understand the backlash).
Well that's what was great about the game it had a little bit of dirt track racing and a little bit of derby to it and some pretty sick cars from classics to sport even trucks. Anyway it was definitely a great game in my opinion.
"the game it had a little bit of dirt track racing and a little bit of derby to it and some pretty sick cars from classics to sport even trucks" So basically a worse Flatout but with Gymkhana crap added on the side.
