I grew up to this Sam, I know Daniella was the original Sam but I prefer this Sam
Some only started watching EastEnders again because of this Kim Sam
No-one really prefers Westbrook’s Sam. over Medcalf any more than they prefer the original/1991 Peggy (Warne) over Barbara Windsor. When it comes to things like that it doesn’t really matter who came first.

@Ady Showers me too. I also grew up watching this version of Sam Mitchell in EastEnders - with Kim Medcalf playing the role. Kim's the best Sam in my opinion. I did watch original actress Danniella Westbrook's performances as Sam when the character of Sam returned in 2009, 2010 & 2016 as well. Danniella's portrayal as Sam was OK but nowhere near as great as Kim's performance - no offense to Danniella. So glad it was Kim who returned as Sam earlier this year.

She is and always has been my favourite actress of the two to play Sam Mitchell
No disrespect towards Danniella Westbrook at all but I've always favoured Kim's Sam
I liked Danniella Westbrook as Sam Mitchell as well but Kim Medcalf is a better actress and made Sam Mitchell far more likeable and varied as a character
I do believe that the BBC strongly regretted bringing back Danniella Westbrook as Sam Mitchell in 2009-2010 and 2016
And what did they even do it for? Just so Westbrook (who I actually do like as a person but if we’re being honest she really isn’t a very good actor) could have a bit of clout?

Totally agree. Ronnie always gave me Sam vibes from 2005 🤣 which is probably why they decided not to bring Kim Medcalf back in 2009 because they had somebody like her already
The killing of Den storyline, with Zoe and Sam and Chrissie was amazing. Kat torturing them once she knew. I sometimes rewatch it here on UA-cam. Eastenders YouTUbe should do more videos like this, based upon storylines...mini movies, the killing Den storyline and after math. Lol. It will get you a lot of ad revenue! ;)

The Chrissie/Den story, Sharongate and the O.G. Jean/Frank/Pat. week (December 2005) are probably my top 3 EastEnders moment-storylines. I would’ve said Kat/Zoe (you ain’t my mother; yes, I am) as well but they cheapened it up the more 2002 came along by getting Anthony Trueman of all people (not even Paul) involved. I know everyone esteems Yorke’s first era as the best in EastEnders’ history but 2002 (relative to the very high standards of the time) was fairly hit-and-miss after the first few months. Killing off Angie for no reason is another black mark against his name. It’s still golden by today’s standards but it’s not quite the immaculate overall era some people make it out to be. Even 2001 had its dull moments as brilliant as it was overall.
Indeed. I love how the events at the club between Sharon, Kat and Sam sort of have me flashbacks to that era.
And the same doubts and anxieties Sam had over her place in the Mitchell family, rubbing the businesses for Phil etc cropped up around the same period as well. I’m not surprised she got into bed with Jonah because this insecurity runs deep as the dates show

When Kat confronted Ronnie in 2011 it was the same as when Kat confronted Sam in 2005 🤣 Samantha Janus and Kim Medcalf have similar acting.

In all the years that Tracy has been in Eastenders I think she should have had her own storyline by now.
Fantastic! There are barely much scenes of Kim’s Sam on YT which is disappointing. Kim’s Sam was a good balance between Ronnie and Roxy, but alternated more towards Ronnie by the end of her stint.
Just a side note: Whitney reminds me a lot like Zoe Slater.

I’ve been saying that for years about Whitney 🤣🤣 she’s just a much shorter version of Zoe. Kat’s scenes with Whit always reminds me of Kat & Zoe. Also if you remember the old Lauren Branning from before 2010, she resembled Zoe Slater as well.
I miss Minty. He was such a loveable and comical character.
It was appalling when they made him interact with Danniella Westbrook. It just wasn’t the same. Minty would never fall in love with her version of Sam 😂

Kim is a more multi dimensional well rounded actress than Westbrook Kim is capable of way more as a character / actress than her … although I appreciate early Westbrook her personal life skews the character and distracts from the honesty and reality of watching Sam Mitchell…. Kim is Sam Mitchell and always has been since the day she took over in 2002

It’s safe to say that Medcalf’s Sam. really came into her-own in 2005 (not-that she wasn’t good before then). I still get chills every time I remember/watch the ‘IT WAS CHRISSIE!’ line. She thought she was doing the right thing but she really had no idea the trouble she’d created for herself.

kim medcalf takes the crown! danniella done a good job in her early years, but since she returned in 2009 2010 and 2016, i hated how drugs changed her entire appearance, and that her acting skills were rusty. but still, kim medcalf’s sam is a green flag
