    Vaulting / Smooth-Hang or Smooth-Drop through Beams.
    It's AC1's 12th Birthday, therefore the entire AC franchise's 12th Birthday, and some people have asked me plenty of times to make a guide on Vaulting so they can refer to it or save the link to conveniently show others. Here it finally is.

    Techurious did some testing. You don't need Catch Ledge in order to Vault, you can do it at any time with the button-combo we described. Additionally, if Altair is already perched on a Non-Standing Object, like a Beam-Type Object, or hanging off an edge with his feet against a wall, you can Vault with a Single Jump instead of a sequence of two. Here is his channel: ua-cam.com/channels/r5pP4gdQrbDLsoyegtyJQw.html
    Likewise, J4K8 has done some amazing work surrounding Vaults in AC1.

    Hey Leo K, I don't know if you know this or not, but I just did some testing and it turns out the second object doesn't have to be a beam type object. It can be any old ledge and Altair will do a slide as he jumps onto the edge of it. I say slide because he's not vaulting down anything, and you remain on the same surface, but the animation plays regardless. Just a fun little thing you can do that serves only to look cool.

      There's Shock-and-Awe Combat, there's Roof Dents in Damascus Poor District and there are traces of a Faction System that they never finished, so it's in the game, but very hard to trigger. (Guards of differing factions will fight each other if one of them sees the other attacking Altair, but doesn't see Altair himself).

    • @TheDanteEX
      @TheDanteEX 4 роки тому +8

      @@LeoKRogue That's so interesting because I always tried to get the Saracens and the Crusaders to meet in the Kingdom but they stop chasing you at an invisible barrier to prevent the two from meeting intentionally. And by Shock-and-Awe combat, are you referring to enemies being distracted in combat and able to be instant killed if you have the hidden blade equipped? Like when they flinch, scratch, or taunt.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  4 роки тому +16

      Yes. Specifically, Shock-and-Awe actually refers to the fear-chain effect that lets you combo an Assassination around to an entire cluster of guards if you can quickly identify who's shaken next.

    • @TheDanteEX
      @TheDanteEX 4 роки тому +21

      @@LeoKRogue Man, AC1 is so deliberately designed it's crazy cool. Some ideas don't work as well as others, sure, but you can tell there was a clear vision about what type of game it is. I love that Altair actually grabs the knives off his person, I love that he'll smile while killing an enemy in combat, and I love that he can taunt guards in Arabic (which by the way is a shame they didn't let Philip Shahbaz use an accent because it sounds so good in those lines). I realized when Ubisoft didn't understand the core of AC anymore in AC3 when they introduced auto-shoving. The whole point of having to shove or risk falling is so crowds are a hindrance when escaping but an asset when blending. So basically from AC3 on crowds can only be a positive; or pointless if you count Origins/Odyssey. AC3 also got rid of running and dropping loudly attracting attention which was disappointing. The entire idea of not drawing attention to yourself was basically dropped.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  4 роки тому +19

      Yeah, essentially by smoothing the friction out of the system they reduced the amount of available interactions, which means there's less gameplay-per-second. It's less textured now, there's less to consider or engage with. Definitely a loss in my heart. They did the same with Movement over the years.

The fact that you make entertaining, interesting, and helpful videos of the first games of my favourite saga ever just blows my mind. The fact that I can see my favourite game of the saga (I despise Odyssey due to having lost all the essence of Assassin’s Creed) being acknowledged by an inteligent player, who is passionate like me about them, even though they’re old, it just warms my heart. I also really agree with what you say and think. Being a fan since 2007 and watching the saga commit suicide in these past years and seeing people enjoy these new type of rpg shit they put into it makes me so angry, but you still see what really matters and give credit to the good games which stayed true to the Assassin’s Creed essence, know what I mean?

    idk if this is new information for the community but I'll just share a new thing I learned about vaulting just a day ago: you can vault over wooden racks (on rooftops), if it's close to an edge, climb up it, move towards the rack holding forward, HP, legs, and empty hand and altair will vault it like connor and assassins from later entries do fences and such. apparently the animation of pulling himself up a ledge also counts as a "jump" you have to do to pull off the vault but I'm not sure, I still need to do some testing to see if I can get it to work in other ways, if so, I'll let you know.
    edit: just read the comment, it may be the same principle of being perched and only requiring one jump to pull it off...

      @@LeoKRogue I'm testing right now, if you fast travel to jerusalem turn south west, the chimny on the roof next to the pretty useless parkour starter boxes is the perfect distance from the ledge
      I assume the pulling up animation counts as a jump so the next animation onto the rack/fence/chimny within a certain time defaults to vault when empty hand is pressed
      fuck me this is exciting, I'm contributing! :D

    There's great fighting technique for quickly killing the strongest enemies which I haven't found among your AC tutorials.
    Grab & throw them away from the rest of the group, exit the fight mode, select hidden blade and do a running assassination on them while they're still tumbling defenseless. Then quickly re-enter the fight.
    Works great on Templar knight's and strong story related characters, you don't have to eat through all their HP, just few smacks to get them off balance for your grapple attempt to work. You can even embarrass Al Mualim this way.

      @LeoKRogue  2 роки тому

      Yeah, the community calls that Shock and Awe combat. I haven't made a video on it but I use it very often while playing normally/during streams and such.

The bad part is there's no way to know when these camera-shifts will occur unless you've already memorized them, which is just bad design and something I've put on blast while streaming, as well. I'm new to the AC series so I could easily be wrong, but while I was trying this out I seem to be able to trigger this with one jump as long as I pressed the empty hand button before the jump started. This is easiest to do for me while being turned in the opposite direction, as the animation for Altair turning around gives you enough time to input the rest of the commands before the jump. So movement key in the direction of Altair's back+legs/jump+empty hand(must be pressed before the jump starts). It can be done without that method but the timing is really strict as you have to press empty hand just slightly after legs/jump.

    Hey Leo, I finally picked up AC1 and I’m loving it so far. I just had a question about Hidden Blade counter timings. I often have a hard time countering on the first attack enemies do, but I am consistently able to counter on the second attack that they do after the initial strike, which is much faster. I think it has something to do with the fact that because the attacks are faster, the overall counter window covers more of the attack duration. When should I be hitting the button on the slower attacks?

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  4 роки тому +1

      On the slower attacks, what you can actually try to do is begin Moving Altair _away_ or _towards_ the enemy, that way you are allowed to basically partially define _when_ the right time to press the button is, yourself. This helped me a lot when I was learning the game. If you find that you're pressing it too early (Blade-Flick animation happens, but you get hit right after), then walk INTO the enemy and then press the button. If you find that you're pressing it too late (by the time you've tapped the button, you've already been hit), pull _away_ from the guard and wait for the sword to almost hit you.
      Try this and let me know if it helps any.

    • @jcers
      @jcers 4 роки тому +1

      Leo K [Rogue] a combination of this and memorizing all of the different attack patterns and moves that enemies do has been very helpful. What I’ve noticed is that on a lot of attack animations, you have to wait until it feels like they’ve already hit you to hit the button. Just breezed my way through Arsuf and one-shotted Robert De Sable with a counter. It’s crazy how much more enjoyable the game is with these hidden techs that so many people played through the entire game without knowing. I think that if everyone put in the time to understand the game’s movement controls and learned how to use shock and awe combat, AC1 would probably be a lot more popular among the general fan base. The things you hear about it are usually to the tune of “AC1 was good for what it was” when it’s completely on par with the best games in the series in literally every metric other than set pieces and side content. The game just has this unique feel to it that none of the other games seem to replicate. It’s probably going to contend to be my personal favourite by the time I’m done with it.

    Ik you don’t do ac related stuff anymore but i gotta rant and idk where to except here. So feel no obligation to respond or acknowledge this if you do read this.
    I love AC2 and it’s probably one of my favourite games but I really don’t like what they did with the brotherhood. AC1 had this very delicate and precise sense of mystery to it that actually left you questioning things. For example the whole garden of eden behind masyaf castle and the stories revolving around it. The assassins felt like an actual dangerous cult. You weren’t completely sure whether you were even the good guys. There was an incredible sense of mystery surrounding the apple of eden. And most importantly than anything, the protagonist wasn’t the one incharge. Altair was a prodigy, yes, but he wasn’t almualim. In ac2 the sense of power that comes with simply being an assassin was lost. And with ACB, you played as the mentor which killed the sense if mystery even more. With ACR set in a new area, you were able to get that feeling of mystery back to a small extent but it wasn’t the same. In AC1 you could feel the political tension in cities and between assassins templars and the other party(the king or something idr, like who the main templar antagonist was manipulating.)

      No worries about commenting AC-Related stuff, I'm cool with talking about it if I'm asked :3
      Also, I fully agree with you. AC1's mood, atmosphere, and overall vibe was something so unique and special even inside of AC's own 'golden age' era of games. Never replicated, never matched. My absolute favorite for all those reasons you described. You truly had to pay attention and think, very rarely would something just be given to you, whether in gameplay or story. You earned every inch of understanding, and every piece of your rank.

    But how to drop to ground from any object like beam or wall how to just simply drop???

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  Рік тому

      To drop normally, just press Empty Hand a bunch and move toward what you want to drop from. Then when the Assassin is hanging off it with his hands, press that same button again to drop.
      Defaults:
      Shift / Circle / B

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  4 роки тому +1

      Yup! I'd say that's 90% true in most situations. You do get the odd moments where the Assassin just... stutters off of a valid grab or interaction on a wall for no reason but those usually only happen at extreme angles and can be played around. For everything else, there's Catch Ledge. I'd kill for movement this advanced again.

    I was today years old when I learnt this. Is it exclusive to AC1?

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  3 роки тому +1

      In this exact form, yes.
      AC1 features Vaulting as explained in this video.
      AC3, 4, Rogue, Unity, Syndicate, Odyssey have Vaulting by running at an obstacle and holding Crouch/Loot/Drop.
      AC2, Brotherhood, Revelations and Origins lack Vaulting of any kind.

    • @LeoKRogue
      @LeoKRogue  2 роки тому +1

      No idea. It was an "unfinished" mechanic in the first game so they just abandoned the idea until it returned in a different form in the Kenway saga.

      In AC3 and forward, yes. Run at an obstacle on the ground and hold Drop/Movement down. It's just cosmetic in those games, it works differently than the AC1 version.

      No, AC1 only.
      There is a different "version" of vaulting that starts being possible from AC3 and forward as well.
      You also can't do it at all in Origins, barring very specific objects.

      Same engine, but slightly different assets and code-base so it doesn't matter.
      You cannot Vault in the Ezio Trilogy, it's a special mechanic unique to AC1, just like Shock and Awe Combat and Hidden Blade being able to counter every attack with no exceptions. (Some attacks can never be Counter-Killed with Hidden Blade in AC2 and onward.)
