    I can't believe Roxy was still there!! I lived in Bloomsbury 20 years ago and drank in the 7 stars quite regularly. She was no spring chicken then. Hats off for Roxy 🎉

    Thank you for taking us on a fascinating pub crawl. You are a mine of interesting information.
    Seven stars .A pubby pub, that also does pub food to soak up the booze is a big tick ✔️
    The Blackfriars. Definitely in my top ten. ✔️
    Next time I ought to have a pint in hand. Here’s to the next one. 👏👏👍😀

    Just stumbled across your channel and really happy I did so! Especially loved the Soho one, the slightly grubby Blue Posts always has a special place in my heart! Have you not thought about the old pubs along the Thames in Wapping?

    A special pub! The front room hosted me and my boss at the time for several friday sandwiches and pints. We'd totter back to work with the understanding, scientifically tested that three pints were too many to have at lunch and be expected to work.
    There's an historic stove at the back of the pub which is apparently from the original building on the site because it is triangular: was the corner of the building.
    Highly recommend anyone go there for a pint

    Thank you for bringing back happy memories. I spent many an hour in your four pubs. I believe the 'Cittie of York' has the longest bar in London. The Seven Stars used to have a resident cat, which sat on the bar and refused to move. In the 1980's I had the honour to use the 'pissoir' in Star Lane, probably having first filled-up in the seven stars. The Mitre and The Blackfriars are quite sensational. All four pubs remain proper pubs, where a proper pint, drawn through a hand-pump is still to be had. I suppose gastro pubs have a place, but they are not for me.

      Thank you John, and I really hope I have done justice to these four very special pubs. I think if I had to pick just one area of London for a pub crawl it would be this one: in particular the Mitre, the Seven Stars and the Cittie of Yorke are pretty much as good as it gets in terms of London pubs, in my opinion.

      the seven stars still has its resident cat my friend, its favourite spot now is the sofa to the right of the bar nestled among the cushions. Often bring my cat-loving friends to the seven stars in the hopes it makes a guest-appearance.

    I used to work in Theobalds Road in Holborn. We frequented Enterprise in Red Lion Street, that has retained much of its original tiling and mirrors. Lovely pub. Just across the road down Lambs Conduit Street is The Lamb. It was a fantastic Young's Pub. Still has its original privacy glass from Victorian times and still serves a smashing pint of ale. Finally I recommend a trip to the Rugby Tavern just around the corner. If you have time pop into The Queens Larder in Queens Square. Some beautiful London plane trees in the Square. Great pub but tiny.
    One of the finest areas in London for outstanding pubs. If you have covered these pubs, I apologise. The algorithm has just started recommending your films and I am enjoying working my way through them. Thanks 👍

    I like the outside of the Shakespeare's Head, in Kingsway Holborn, was formally known as Africa House, has great statues on the roof, the pub is a Weatherspoon, very modern inside.

    Excellent group. I usually start at Blackfriar, The Cheese, Mitre, Citti, Seven Stars and maybe Ye Olde White Horse. By then I’m glad I don’t have to drive anywhere. :- )

    • @TweedyPubs
      @TweedyPubs  Рік тому

      That is a great list - although I think I've only been to the White Horse once or twice. I think it's quite a studenty pub isn't it (being in the grounds of LSE)...?

    Seven Stars is a cracking pub - it's been done up since the last time I was there. I did hear that the bankruptcy court entrance/exit was opposite the pub, so bankrupts were described as being on 'queer street', a derivative of Carey St.

      Most of the denizens only work in the area, going home at the weekends. And it's off the main drag where tourists aimlessly plod. The Cheshire Cheese, just off Fleet Street, is very interesting historically and well trod by US visitors.

    Had many debauched evenings in the Cittie of Yorke. There's also a bar in the basement chiseled into the chalk. Similar to the olde Cheshire Cheese.

    Please please move the camera around slowly and smoothly. You give me a headache jerking it around like this. Apart from the camerawork the video was very enjoyable.

    • @TweedyPubs
      @TweedyPubs  Рік тому +2

      Sorry about that. This video was from 6 months ago (it's a re-upload, it was originally on my other channel), and I hope in the interim I have slowly started to get at least a bit less messy with the camera work. I'm really not a natural filmmaker - it seems to come so easily to other people but I keep having to remind myself the camera isn't recording exactly whatever my eyes are seeing in any given moment!

    • @johnorchin8567

      @@TweedyPubs I don’t think it comes easily to anyone, but I think it does require some skill.
      The video itself was full of interesting facts of which I haven’t heard elsewhere.
      The urinals in Star Yard are not very well documented - and are one of London’s hidden gems.
