    They are kind of heavy at 134 Wh/Kg, but for racing, peak current and cooling is more important. I raced EVs in the 90' with lead acid batteries, and we abused them heavily and got slightly more than 50Wh/kg out of them. Typically for racing you'd use a higher concentration Sulfuric acid which both improved capacity and peak power, but hurt cycle life. They usually lasted 5-20 charge cycles. Funny thing was that there were strict rules about capacity, weight and size of the batteries in each class, but acid concentration was never mentioned in the rule books. ;)

    Are pouches good? I thought they puff with age. For racing it makes sense, but not energy storage. Also what happens to packs that big when they go bad?

  • @BunkerBlog
    @BunkerBlog 4 роки тому +1

    Do you think modular battery packs for DIY/racing applications will become common in the future? I'd love to have a few of these packs that could be configured or scaled up for whatever application you want (off road dune buggy/kart?).

    • @BrunoPOWEEER
      @BrunoPOWEEER  4 роки тому +2

      Yeah they’re safer keeping batteries contained in separate small modules which stops thermal runaway from spreading and killing the whole pack. Also you have the advantage of reconfiguring the pack for high voltage connecting all in series or paralleling for higher capacity or split into two smaller packs...

    Sexy! Any plans to build a hybrid ultra capacitor version of these amazing looking batteries?

    • @BrunoPOWEEER
      @BrunoPOWEEER  5 років тому +2

      We have some big 3000F ultracaps here, they’re amazing but it’s hard and a bit impractical when talking like going 400v or higher, they’re 2.7 or 3v so you need so many like 148 big caps and they’re around 550grams each and the energy stored is so little, same as a AA battery... makes more sense adding more cells to handle the current. As much as we would love to use supercaps it only make sense in very few scenarios and yes, they do an amazing job!!
      We are always thinking where and how we could use supercaps... soon we will find a good use and put them into action =]

      @@BrunoPOWEEER I'd be interested in the 3000f caps! Looking to use them for capturing the kinetic energy from my semi truck. I'm wanting to turn the rear drive axle into an electric drive axle with regen. Leaving the front axle an ice drive but running a dc generator with electric clutch off the out put shaft on the back of the front diff for even more return. The truck is an IShift automatic and has eco roll already. Meaning it goes into neutral when it senses a neutral grade in the road or a decline. If I can get the electric drive to kick me along on the flats then my truck would just keep its self in neutral. Thanks for the reply! Very cool stuff!
