    Omgggg I been making Soap for 3 years and you just gave me the formula to solve so many problems. I literally just quit my job last week to become a full time soap maker. I couldn’t keep up with the demand. Seeing your first 3 videos have me in tears. You are heaven sent! Thank you for this. I found my new favorite soap lady 🫶🏾

    You're an angel. Thank you for being so giving. That's why God has prospered your business. I have been 50/50 lye solution for a year, but I'd struggled with some recipes coming out too soft and then some seizing up. I think it's the fragrance or EO that makes the difference and over use of stick blender. I've started to just stir in at the end and it seems to work. Your videos are super helpful in understanding why things happen. God bless you and your business 🙏🏾 😊

    What a God-incidence. I can't belive I've never seen you Chanel. I also pray that prayer over my oils, we also use red buckets for our lye, and I also soap at 33% It is wonderful to do business on Kingdom principles, it makes no sense to people😂 But Jesus is só faithful, He literally gives you insight and ideas🙌🏻 I'm so excited to spend time on you Chanel. And thank you for the 50/50 lye tip. I've been thinking about it non stop for about 2 weeks and wondering if it's possible... Now I know👏🏻🙌🏻 blessings and favor to you

    Thank you so much for this. I just recant very first white label request and I had no idea how to go about the process with the formula and cure time. 🤷🏽‍♀️
    It takes forever to create solution and wait for it cool and the hot process method only works with a few of my recipes, others will overheat. I will try this and see if it works. 😊

      Thank you so much for sharing and so thrilled that you have found this content helpful! The science of soap is a fairly intricate one and sometimes we learn best by our own experimentation. It will click! Just keep at it. I recommend playing around with the Soap Maker 3 software as well so you can see how things change in the software when different oils are added or you choose different water discounts etc. I'll be continuing to make more videos for deeper dives into these topics as well. You've got this!

      yeah, thats how i fell out of it lol.. id learn from one video, then the next one completely contradict the previous one lol. im a wizz at math, but for some reason all this formula crap confused me.. i dont even understand what this premade 50/50 lye stuff is.. i have a bottle of sodium hydroxide beads.. that i mix with water, to make whatever % solution... idk, i gave it up 🤣

    • @marinrodriguez7729
      @marinrodriguez7729 Місяць тому

      As long as you use weight the maths can be straightforward. Remember...in the 50/50 lye solution there are equal weights of water and lye. The term 50/50 can be confusing but it just refers to having 50% by weight of each component...in this case 50% water and 50% lye. In othrr words, whatever amount (by weight) of lye you add is matched by an equal amount of water ( by weight). This is why having a scale is so important. Once made, if you then measure out say 40 oz of that solution, you will have half of that weight made up of lye and the other half of that weight will be water (20 oz of lye + 20 oz of water = 40 oz of solution that you measured out). This is your starting point. You then need to add additional liquid (water or whatever) to dilute the solution to whichever percentage you desire...in the video she recommends 33%. Using our existing numbers, you would add 20 more oz of liquid so that the solution total by weight is 60oz...20 oz lye+ 20 oz water + 20 oz of additional liquid. Now that you have 60 total oz of solution, you can see that you still have 20 oz of lye ( since you didnt add any additional lye) which is 33% (or 1/3) in the new total. I could add in some formulas but i dont want to overly complicate this. Happy soaping!

    • @TheSoapGal
      @TheSoapGal  7 місяців тому +2

      Congrats on starting your soaper journey!! You will add the rest of the liquids first, then add your 50/50 to the combined oils and additives. The 50/50 should be room temp. Do not reheat the 50/50 solution. Hope that helps!

    My 50/50 solutions turns slightly cloudy after I add the rest of the water. It is thicker and clear but then when I add the remaining distilled water it turned a little cloudy and heats up a little. Is this normal? I LOVE everything you share

    • @TheSoapGal
      @TheSoapGal  5 місяців тому

      Yes this is normal as the lye granules dissolve! The lye should be clear, the room temperature could affect that if it is too cold in the room or not enough water being used. But I suggest a strainer when pouring in the lye to catch any granules that might not dissolves if it happens again.

  • @jeannettecain7163
    @jeannettecain7163 10 місяців тому +2

    So if I heard that right, you have your 50/50 lye solution and with that you add a 1/3 of extra liquid, so say 12 oz water, 12 oz lye and the extra amount of liquid at the same 12 oz of goat milk, Aloe Vera or etc. (1/3 + 1/3 + extra 1/3). Thank you so much for your videos. Love them all.

    • @TheSoapGal
      @TheSoapGal  9 місяців тому +3

      Using a 25% full water recipe, you'd have 75% total liquid which yes would be broken down to 25% + 25% (50/50 solution) and 25% additional water, milk, or aloe etc. Hope that helps!

    • @marinrodriguez7729
      @marinrodriguez7729 Місяць тому

      Just remember that when measuring out your 50/50 solution to divide by 2 so that you know how much lye you have. In your example, if you are measuring out an existing 50/50 solution, you would have measured out 24 oz by weight of your 50/50. 24/2 = 12 oz of lye and 12 oz of water. To get to 33% lye solution you would def add another 12 oz of liquid of choice. To get to 25% lye you would need to add 24 oz of liquid of choice. Total you would have 12 oz lye + 12oz of water + 24 oz of additional liquid= 48 oz total...of which your original 12 oz of lye now makes up 25% of the total weight.

    • @adrienewilliams7186
      @adrienewilliams7186 Місяць тому

      Sorry, I not good with numbers. So, if I make a 64 oz batch of soap and use the 50/50 solution, I just add how much water and the lye together, that’s on my soap recipe plus the extra liquid?

    • @marinrodriguez7729
      @marinrodriguez7729 Місяць тому +1

      @@adrienewilliams7186depending on your recipe, yes. But the amount of 50/50 solution needs to be double the amount of lye that the recipe calls for. That way u will have the exact amount of lye u need. Good luck😊

    • @TheSoapGal
      @TheSoapGal  Рік тому +2

      Great question! I recommend having your 50/50 at room temp and just melting your oils and butters slightly - enough to thoroughly allow them to mix. I wouldn't recommend working with anything scorching hot or ice cold.

To see how fast it trace, and how it looks after curing few days, and even show how it lather washing your hands...My experience is that if my cure don t cure enought tgey disolve faster and get mushy, i like tgat they stay hard and last longer.Will that be the case with the lye 50/50.Sorry many questions🙈Thank you for your time 🙏🌟

      Hi there! So glad you found us too. We would recommend getting Soap Maker 3 software and using it to confirm your calculations in grams. You can add the milk at room temp and the trace will change based on your water discount. With 50/50 solution yes, the bars are safe to handle and cut within 48 hours but you will want to weigh the bars daily for a week to ensure no more water is dissipating before packaging. That is correct. Based on Dr. Kevin Dunn's research a bar that's cured for 1 week behaves the same as a bar that cures for 2 months. The only difference is the hardness of the bar. You will always want to test your own products thoroughly before selling. You can find my 50/50 lye video here! ua-cam.com/video/Unzj7g6S2mw/v-deo.html

      Sounds like your recipe has too much water! You always want more water than your lye but not too much water that the bars don't cure! This is why soap maker 3 is so valuable.

      It is a shame this question didn’t get answered.
      I make up 50:50, about 2 litres (quarts) in a safety gallon container, and use it all completely without any waste or mishap in a good number of soap recipes. It is always good to go and lasts me about three months sometimes. How amazing that is eh? I mix the right amount of lye solution into the soap batch once I have emulsified my additives into the oils, and blend to light trace. When whisk in well the essential oils or fragrance before pouring into the mould. This process frees up my brain to think more expansiveness about the extra liquid options I can use to make up the master batched lye solution quantity, for a great soap bar.

    If you use the 50/50 lye solution base cold and then add (say goats milk) to it, does it heat up again…or stay cold please? My biggest challenge with goats milk is scorching the milk. I can really see how this is a game changer for productivity 🥳🥳💕

    • @TheSoapGal
      @TheSoapGal  11 місяців тому

      Is it inside or on on the outer parts of the bars and is it flaky? Was your soap batter fully mixed (no lumps) before pouring? It could be that the bar is lye heavy or could be soda ash formation. Soda ash forms when unsaponified lye reacts with naturally-occurring carbon dioxide in the air. It doesn't affect the final bars and the soap is safe to use. However, it can obscure more intricate designs. It typically shows up on top of soap, but in some cases it can run all the way through. You can try steaming your bars or running them under cool water to remove.

    This is how I do it. I have a 20 quart 50/50 master-batch pot. Then add the extra liquid to my 50/50. Depends on what bars I’m making (soap, shampoo, dish, shaving) I use one of these as my extra liquid: water, goats milk, heavy cream, buttermilk, coconut milk, soap nuts, apple cider vinegar.
    Having my 50/50 lye-water already prepared saves me time.

      The lye should be clear, the room temperature could affect that if it is too cold in the room or not enough water being used. But I suggest using a strainer when pouring in the lye to catch any granules that might not dissolves if it happens again.

    I appreciate all that you do to help.... I dont think I'm understanding tho. When I saw you day in another video that you use a 50/50 solution so your cure time is shorter i thought thats all you use 🤔 but if I'm understanding correctly you start with 50/50 but then add more liquid, like aloe or milks or even water??? So then we are back to having more than 50/50 so now what about that shorter cure time? I feel like I'm not understanding, sorry to be a pain 😢 😅 🤷

    • @TheSoapGal
      @TheSoapGal  Рік тому +3

      Correct! It's because of the water discount. We're adding less additional water since there is already water in the 50/50 solution. You can adjust the ratios to fit your desired malleability. But with a 33% lye strength using 50/50 solution in my dry environment, cure time is 48 hours until the soap is safe and curable. Then it's important to weigh the bars to confirm the time it takes for final water evaporation.
