You're the sole person who influenced me to try making a soap which I did today for the first time. I'm not sure how good it's going to come out. But I need to thank you for your inspiration.
same here, I stumbled on her rosemary soap video like three weeks ago and since them I am obsessed !!! I watched a course on soap making and find Elly soo much clear and explains so much better 😊 so thankful for all what you put in here Elly! I am waiting for my soap material to arrive and start my first batch, in the meantime I am soaking up the knowledge 😂
I must have watched fifty videos minimum by now making sure I learn as much as possible and I keep hearing about super fat, but this is the first explanation I’ve heard. It might not be the most exciting topic but this is information we need! Thank you so much. ♥️
OMG!! CONGRATULATIONS!! I cannot think of someone who is more worthy of this, for being so genuine and authentic and really wanting all her followers to do well! SO thank you!
Elly - you do a great job of breaking down the chemistry, and chemical risks, to help us understand the purpose and function of super fats. Thank you ❤
Thank you so much for taking your time to clarify this issue! There has always been an interrogation in my mind about the meaning of "superfat". This is one of the reasons I think you're an actual Educator in soap- making.
Now i understand why my soap has an oily in it even after 6weeks cured, now i will lower the super fat because here in the philippines very warm and humid we swet a lot,now i will be reducing it on summer and maybe adding super fat at cold season.Thank you so much Elly..❤
Thank you Elly. I follow you from Italy...here the making of soap with olive oil is a tradition and i like that you use it allways and highlight its caracteristics. Your videos are the most well explained in the web even if in my country it was such a common practice. I'm learning so much from you because you are so generous with your experiences.
Thank you Elly for another great informative video. I truly appreciate the simplicity in the way that you explain things that would possibly leave me baffled if I were left to decipher it myself from a book.
Elly your fun "grooming" introduction to this video cracked me up - you are so vain......not!🤩 I found your instructional talk on super fats so interesting and appreciate your detailed, plain and simple delivery that we can all get our heads around. The award you proudly showed us is more than deserved. Congratulations! Thanks for recommending the book. I will definitely look via the link you provided.
Thank you, hehe, yes I thought some of you might enjoy that. I run everything like that past my husband, and he laughed (in a good way) so I went for it. Thanks again, glad you enjoyed it. Yes, that book is the best resource on soap making I've ever come across. It's designed like a chemistry textbook for high school students, but it's very useful - I have learned a lot from it so far and am only a third of the way through!
Thank you, I have seen others adding superfats, so I am pleased you covered this. I was hoping to see your whiteboard in use :) maybe building up the excitement! Is the way to go. :) Good lesson.
Thank you Peter, you know, I tried to use the whiteboard but it wouldn't fit in this space! Nevermind, I'll be sure to get it out again. Was too overcast and dark in the kitchen that day :)
Thank you for explaining this so well! I enjoy learning from you. I just used your 100% coconut oil w/25% superfat recipe today. I made a small batch to see how we like it. I'm excited to see how it turns out.
so how did it turn out? What area do you live im curious how humidity and cold/hot areas affect soap on skin especially coconut oil and how soap just turns out.
@@houseofdc9867 The soap turned out great. I made more than one batch. added some rose clay in one batch and I added some activated charcoal and tea tree oil in another one for my grandson...to help with acne. He really like it for his face and even has asked for more. So that tells you a lot. :) We live in Georgia so it's more hot and humid than some other places.
This is the first video I’ve come across that REALLY explains superfatting. I’ve been so confused by superfatting from watch so many soap maker videos. Thank you so much for your in depth explanation. I’m now confident in just sticking to adding my 5% superfat in the calculator.
Congratulations on your subscriber award! That's so exciting!!! I love your videos. I learned about Sopanification in chemistry class at home via zoom at the beginning of the Pandemic! I looked up diy soap making on youtube and watched a ton of your video's. I've made a few batches and still practicing. Thank you Elly!
Hi, I am Joyce from Bangalore, India. Thanks for bringing out these videos for people like us. I watch your videos to understand soap making and it has helped me a lot. God bless you for your heart to teach others. 👍❤️
Thank you for your time to explain this topic. ..... Based on my experience, I use lye discount for my soap making. . For 33% coconut oil + 67% palm oil soap recipe, using 20-25% lye discount is good for your body skin but not your face skin because it is quite drying. . For 25% palm oil + 25% coconut oil + 25% olive oil + 25% sunflower seeds oil soap recipe, 5% lye discount is good for your body & face skin. . For 5% coconut oil + 95% palm oil soap recipe, using 10-13% lye discount is the best. If you go higher, the soap texture will be quite too soft. . In Malaysia, our dishes is usually too oily so, i use (-)5-7% lye discount for my dishwash soap bar. It's quite harsh for hand skin but, it will very effective to eliminate oil on our plates since we love oily food such as french fries, fried chicken, fried banana & so on. Hee~
Best explanation ever! I always questioned "super" fat. Especially when using 100% coconut oil. I was like, errrrr....how am I getting the super fat? Lye discounting makes sooooooooooo much more sense! Thank you soooooooooooo much!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
You are my SOAP TEACHER HERO! You are so sweet and so smart, the only reason why I’m able to understand and make soap, is because of what I’ve learned from you.. THANK YOU!
Being that I am new to soap making, the information that you have given is invaluable! You have definitely cleared up any misunderstandings and confusions I have had regarding whether or not to add an additional super fat oil to my soap mixture. Thank you so much Elly!
I have watched/read maybe 20 different explanations of super fat, but this is the first that made it click. I now fully understand it, so thank you so much. Subscription earned!
You are amazing Elly. The only person that I know who really share your knowledge with others in a clearly and generous way. God bless you my dear. Thank you so much for your videos. 🥰😍😘
I have only made soap twice but I have always wondered what lye discount in many recipes but your explanation is SOOOOOOO understandable, THANK YOU!!!!
Your lectures on different topics of soap making are amazing!!! I have started soap making just a year back and learnt so many things by watching your UA-cam videos… Thank you so much for this wonderful video on super fat.. love to watch all your videos
I made your 4 soaps at the same time following your instructions to the dot. Before making them, I bought all ingredients and devices needed, since it was my first time. They were perfect, and everyone in the family got more than one sample of each. Now I feel I’m a soap artisan. I even make coconut shampoo bars. You are changing lives without knowing it. God bless you!!! Thank you!!!!
I love all of your videos, so informative and inspiring! And you are the most wholesome and sweet person! I’m about to make your coconut oil soap now 😊
I think I have watched this episode already but I am watching this again now. When we were starting, we use 10%sf in our soaps, but with the humidity in our country, our soaps spoil. It's very soft and it sweats even after curing. Now I only use 5%
So appreciated your explanation of super fatting/ lye discounting. I am a novice soap maker and loving this craft. You have made grasping the principles of soap making so much more interesting and manageable.
Was thinking last night about this topic & like magic you pop up as a recommended watch with the answer. I harvested and froze some Aloe Vera yesterday & today I make soap. 2nd ever batch. My first was high in coconut oil & thanks to you I know understand why I didn’t love it. I’ll still use coconut oil, just in smaller amounts. Thanks for all the knowledge & super friendly delivery!
Hi Elly, I just wanted to say I've been watching your videos and adore your scientific approach, it makes it so much easier. I trained as a scientist but don't work in my field and was diagnosed with ADHD later in life, it turned my life upside down, but seeing videos like yours make things so much smoother for me when I'm trying to teach myself something. Much love and best wishes from England, Sal.
OMG! Thank you VERY much Elly for extensively explaining Superfat! I've been making cold process & hot process soap for 1 year. I've watch many videos and ready on this subject and couldn't quit understand it until watching this video! I do add a Superfat at end of cooking my hot process but learned by watching one of your other videos, just do a 5% Superfat in my CP soaps since I add coconut or goat milk that has added fat. I love all of your videos! You're a great coach. Thanks again.💛
So adore your videos! Thank you, Elly! They're so helpful, informative and positive. As a beginner I've found answers, a lot of ideas and I'm inspired to continue my soapmaker journey.
Great and Informative video. I could say you've earned the title Mwalimu Elly (Mwalimu in Swahili is Teacher). You've answered the questions that are confusing for a beginner soap maker, it's like you read our minds. Many thanks for the video.
I love your technical research and sharing them out. They are easy to understand too. Thank you so much. I will definitely buy the book as you recommended. I have been watching your videos every day and they are so inspiring. 😊
you make it so much less intimating to formulating w soap making! especially with the intent to sell. im looking for a particular feel and random recipes only dont explain their reasonings or use similar oils/butters as me. i really understand what it means to superfat and feel confident. thankuu!
Thanks so much Elly. I've been in search of superfating explanation for so long. You just made my day with this video. It's my 1st time on your channel and I have subscribed already. Thank you.

Excellent explanation of super fats. I've watched your earlier videos on this topic, and this one answered all my open questions, as usual gr see at job!
Excellent selfless teacher you truly are Elly. Since I start watching your videos I am hooked. Your knowledge and experiences on this area are greatly appreciated by all who follow you including myself. Thank you for your time and effort, energy, money to share with us. You are like a generous fountain. Bless your beautiful soul. I'm going to make a batch with your already made formula to start with, and already excited, yet not started but soon. ❤❤❤
Thank you so much, Elly, I had no idea what superfast meant. I made the first batch of soap 2 weeks ago using olive oil and coconut oil using someone else's recipe, but I first watched a few of your videos which were very informative. I have ventured out and bought some white clay and shea butter after seeing that you use those ingredients as well. Much gratitude for sharing your information and experience. I always sought out homemade soaps for personal use and can now make my own. Happy happy me.
My advice is let a black person (or if your dark skinned yourself??) use your soap and give you an honest review. My soap never got better until a black person used my soap. After a bar or two he came back and said it left white lines in his skin. I said "Oh s***". I Had to go back to the drawing board with my recipe and start over.

great video, it really answered all my questions about choosing a lye discount percentage
Thank you, watched Sunday November 7, 2021
