  • Galatians is a firm statement of the doctrine of justification by grace through faith. When Paul wrote this letter, the false doctrine of legalism and faith by works had infiltrated the church throughout Galatia. As a result, believers had traded their freedom in Christ for bondage to the old Jewish law that had been fulfilled by Jesus. On this flight, we discover the differences between law and grace as well as the practical application and results of the proper doctrine of grace.
This teaching is from our series The Bible from 30,000 Feet - 2018 with Skip Heitzig from Calvary Church.

We’re studying this book now and it has been such an eye opener! It’s so easy to want to work for something.. however, there’s great freedom in walking in the finished work of Christ! May many hear this and make the choice to come from under the old into the new.

Thank you for this lesson. My husband has started practicing a new Hebrew Israelite religion. I said no way. He is adamant that I am in sin because I refuse to follow all these laws he has discovered. This lesson in Galations only confirmed that it is not a gospel and a curse. I'm only praising God that my kids were raised Christians. I found all I needed in Jesus Christian. Pray for me. I don't know that our 25 year marriage can sustain this level of attack on me daily. This is a very complex issue. He only says, as the spiritual leader of this house your suppose to follow me. NOT if it leads me to He'll! You can walk that without me. We are to a breaking point. Thank you for this lesson.

I love how skip loves scripture! It is clearly demonstrated with his words actions and deeds! I love listening to bible teachers who love the scriptures they are teaching .. it helps to to remember what I am learning. It’s one thing to learn but a whole different thing to be able to remember what is learned to be to apply in ones life or to pass on the good news to someone in need!

We read in Isiah 61 that " The Spirit of the LORD is upon me," followed by a description ofthe anointing and authority to "set the captive free." Jesus reads from the scroll in the synagogue this same passage; then exclaims today the scripture is fulfilled. It's Jesus who sets us free!!! Only believe! Halleleujah ! This instruction has blessed me.

Thanks Pastor Skip. I'm new to Bible reading and read Galatians for the first time this week. Parts of it seemed contradictory and frankly, Paul sounded like an arrogant jerk. (But he's only human, too. Right?) The tone made it feel like an imperfect message, thus harder to accept this writing. Then your channel 'somehow' popped up on my UA-cam feed. This discussion of yours puts Galatians into context and i can now read the chapter without cringeing. (At some point I'll get to reading it with complete acceptance. But apparently, not yet 😁. I wonder if all beginning seekers go thru this..) Anyway, thank you. And I sure am curious why this would be anybody's fav book!

It is finished. In Jesus we have Everything. His finished work on the cross is enough. There is nothing more we can do. He is our Everything.

I believe a more accurate understanding of Paul’s letter to the Galatians is to see how he was trying to provide an understanding of the relationship between The Law and Grace. How The Law, which was simply two dimensional words cut onto stone tablets was given through Moses. But Grace, which is the transforming power of the Holy Spirit, came through Christ. In other words, through Christ The Law becomes “spiritual” and transforms the two dimensional words cut onto tablets of stone, into three dimensional words cut onto the tablets of our heart. Paul attempts to do this through an examination of what it means to accept Christ’s offer of redemption and enter into a New Covenant. But Paul doesn’t stop there, he also provides a thorough examination of the ramifications of returning back to the covenant from which they had been redeemed, whether that covenant was of legalism and The Law of Moses, as in the case of those of the cultivated olive tree (Judaism), or the covenant of liberalism and lawlessness, as the case for the uncultivated olive tree (Gentiles). May you be blessed in your pursuit of truth.

You put the word “grace” in your understanding of the verses. Yet the verses speak to faith and being gentile . You turned it around. Close - grace and faith can be intertwined- but two different words and meanings - go read again and stop twisting the words to build an unnecessary argument

@@elizabethantoine9652 With all due respect, this pastor has not heeded Peter’s warning (2 Peter 3:14-17). Having failed to rightly divide the word of truth (2 Timothy 2:15) he twists Paul’s writing to his own destruction and is being carried away into the error of lawlessness.
If you feel compelled I invite you to visit our c h a n n e l by clicking our logo and watch our teaching entitled, “Galatians 3:19 Explained”, where we explore this understanding in detail. May you be blessed in your pursuit of truth.

Skip says pride is the reason Christians add on and ritualize like a spiritual buffet but for me, it was fear. Am I good *enough*? Can I show reverence is some other way or additional way? As a Christian if nearly 60 years I still have to remind myself that believing is key. Simply faith and belief.

    SHALOM brother Skip
the Law does not save ANYBODY agree 100%
before I didn't care about The Law of God. but now
    because as a borne again
Now I obey The Law I'm not perfect but in Jesus I keep trying my best
    not. nine conmmandments
as you and many stream denominations believe but The Decalogue( no 9)
    ten cements
I live by faith in Jesus Christ and nothing else
what is Sin(1st in chap 3)
    are we perfect yet?
not we are still in the flesh
then when we Sin what tells us we sinned?
The Holy Spirit convicted us that we violate (hamartia)
fall short of the grace of God
tell not to obey the law to a true believer
is to tell you can sin?

I AGREE about the scripture, but let us not forget that the Jews rip Isaiah 53, Psalms 22 out of the Torah - so there is a lot they ignore, and a lot that has been ignored over time, in general. Which is precisely why Jesus tells us, as does the book of Daniel, Revelation, Isaiah, and others, that information will be numerous in the last days. And the last days are anything after the crucifixion, but the final times, of end times, as specified are different. So while I agree, kooks like Jospeh Smith, preaching a different should get no ear - when people discover things, that point directly to the coming of Jesus Christ, people better listen. Because that is not only prophesied, but it is happening right now.

  • @kevinerose
    @kevinerose 7 місяців тому

7:30 Great teaching Skip but here we are borderline going against the teachings of Galatians. Elaborating outside of scripture, private interpretation, and introducing doctrines of Man. The Jews did come there after Paul and did bring with them Jewish customs, but nowhere does it say they tried to usurp Paul's authority or teachings. And it does seem obvious that the Jews did not know Paul or about the letter from Peter which basically declares that the teachings of Paul were accurate to the faith.
I would refrain from dabbling that the Jews were somehow subversive to Paul. Paul was obviously upset about the visit from these particular Jews but I don't believe there is any evidence the Jews were going behind Paul to correct new Believers. All the commentaries about this is also wrong and we must stick to the Bible Alone in these matters of somehow there was dissention in the church body back in 60AD. Other than those who would seek to corrupt the gospel message. Today, we have far more corruption of the gospel message that we won't even talk about. And what Paul is upset about here is really a nothing burger compared to what is going on in the church today.
We need to use Galatians as our base for fixing today's church. We are failing all the lost souls of the world because we don't teach Galatians properly. With all our failing churches around the world, we have the solution right in front of us - Galatians is the answer everyone and every church leader is looking for to add growth to the church daily.
As a mature Christian, I pray that you reassess all that you have learned in commentaries and in writings then compare that to Scripture Alone. Most Christian writings and commentaries are at best inaccurate and at worst hold fast to old Roman Pagan's man-made doctrines. Sure, we did come away from the Church of Rome but not completely as the Reformers still held fast to many Roman fallacies. See 21:00 Only Galatians teachings can correct that if applied correctly.
