I have owned that simple human soap dispenser for years and still love it! That being said, changing the batteries is a little challenging!
YUP, IT'S EASIER TO ACTUALLY USE A TISSUE, POP UP! THEN PUMP THE SOAP! AND DISCARD THE TISSUE. CHEAPER TOO. CLEANER TOO! 😉😉
The new one has a rechargeable battery. It comes with a magnetic surface tye connector you plug into any USB charging port. It charges in about an hour and lasts for several months. you cna get wall outlets, or wall mountable power strips that have aUSB port on them too which can facilitate charging items like this.
The new one, which they do not indicated in this video, has a variable output. You ut your hand up higher for a small amount of soap, and lower for more soap.
Im ordering a second one now one for dish soap and one for hand soap, because we are tired of overfilling that stupid kitchen sink mounted hand pump that only squirts soap down the side of the sink. Useless.
HA! That's literally what I am futzing with right now, which is what brought be here! I love it too, but the batteries, especailly when there is soap inside, YIKES! total pain. So I already have the best one according to ATK, hmmm... I think my next one will be the rechargable model, which fits neatly in the SHuman wall mount holder, thereby freeing up even more space.
I've had these for a couple years ... one in the kitchen, one in the bathroom. They are wonderful!
I have used the non-winning (Umbra) one on the far left-umbra for 7 years in both my bathroom and kitchen. And they are still going strong, no issues. I choose it because it looks awesome on my counter and available in a variety of colours to suit my decor.
Just bought Simplehuman dispenser that is rechargeable, after paying $25 for a different brand that required batteries but did not work after the firs day. Decided that over the years, the Simplehuman price difference would not be a hardship. It does not disappoint. Varies amt of soap dispensed by how close to the nozzle you place your hands- less at top, more at bottom. LOVE it. Opened this review to see if I made the right choice and thankfully, yes!
This just happened to me, I have a Simple Human one but bought a cheaper one for the bathroom and it worked two weeks.

I’ve been saying for years that the soap dispenser is likely the dirtiest thing in the house...but that it likely doesn’t matter anyway because you’re always going to wash your hands after touching it

I've owned a number of models and while great when they work they rarely last more than a year before the pump fails. The rechargable foam pump from Simple Human has faired much better as they don't have to pump as thick a soap solution.

We try D’s automatic soap dispensers a few years ago what we found out was that our cats figured out how to use it and they did. So we work around them thank you..

We use a tissue, to pump the larger better dispensers! Cheaper! No batteries. Just throw out the tissues.

Also how it holds up over time.I used the Simple Human dispenser you nominated as the winner. I liked it for the relatively short time it served its purpose, but opted for a manual pump version after that. I’m not sure you need to worry about contamination if you are washing your hands after you pump. - I love your videos. Please keep them coming.
Yes, Simplehuman is the best, I bought my first one in 2012, still works!
I've owned the simple human winner in this one and I liked how it performed and how it looked. But it ended up not working in a few months and I took it apart and I discovered water and soap somehow got inside of it. If you're going to buy this make sure it doesn't fall into a sink full of water and don't put it under running water or it will destroy the electronics inside.

Im usign the 9 OZ one and you can completely run the whole thing under water to clean it if needed. I have not had it fall into a sink full of water though. They shoud have included that in their tests because what is around kitchen sinks? Sinks full of water! Cheers.

I was a fan of the winning pump but it takes 4xAA batteries and runs out fairly fast. Constantly changing and felt like I was killing the planet!
Ended up going with the SimpleHuman rechargeable model (silver one in this video). Still a fan, feel it pumps out too much soap even on the lowest setting but haven’t run out yet (early days).
They also have a foaming hands free dispenser I’m curious about too.
I use the dispenser that is attached to the sink and it works fine. But I will say after handling raw chicken or have oily hands an auto-dispenser might be good. My concern would be how much soap it dispenses and can you adjust that? Looking at the video it appears all of these put out way more soap than you would need. I pea-sized amount of soap to me is enough and if I need more I’ll pump more.
I bought a simplehuman auto soap dispenser, it worked for a month, exchanged it for a new one, that one worked for two months, so I just gave up. I just use a regular hand soap dispenser and use the side of my wrist to pump it.
They all dispensed far more soap than necessary!
I'll stick with my old fashioned bar of kitchen soap. It's not the prettiest, but I get the amount I want and the bar keeps itself clean. And costs nothing beyond the price of the soap. [I use a 100% coconut oil soap, it cleans well, is kind to my hands, and lasts forever.]
I would dispute the "far more soap" comment, as an owner of both the gel and foaming dispensers, the soap output is adjustable . If you are a conservative adult who cares about conservation, like I was, bar soap (with a compostable wrapper) is maybe...best? Kids factor in differently.
I use Mrs. Myers pump dispensers. The soap is great and you decide how much of it you want.
I have both Simple Human models (battery and chargeable) and both have power issues. The battery operated one goes through batteries very quickly, despite being rarely used. The rechargeable one holds a charge for about 3 days, despite their claim of 3-4 months. Actually, the rechargeable one currently will not turn on. It’s very expensive for how little it worked.
I have the one on the far right. The batteries only last about 1 month, for maybe 5 to 10 uses a day. What I really want is a RECHARGEABLE soap dispenser. That would be great.
What would be your recommendations for FOAMING soap dispensers? 🙂
I guess I am old school, I have a push type soap dispenser that I push with the back of my wrist so as not to contaminate it, then I use my wrist or arm to activate my lever handle on my faucet to turn that on.
What about clogging issues? How long before you need to unglog that nozzle?
THe simple human version has a no clog dispensing pump. If the nozzle clogs, which is very rare, just wipe it off.
Yeah, the winner is pretty awesome but what ATK can’t tell you is that the pump will only last 18 mos- 2 years and you’ll have to replace it. It just stops working. We have had FOUR of these so just accept the fact that you’ll have to replace it and make sure to use the 20% off coupon at BBB bc they don’t go on sale anywhere else. Also, they tell you the wrong price, it is $50 (I just checked BBB and the SH sites to be sure.)

I wear gloves when handling meat. But I also own the OXO rechargeable soap dispenser. I like it way better than the Simple Human models. I don't think they tested it.
Did OXO make a touchless soap dispenser? I've never seen it before.

@@CreamyJalapeno Haha!!Thats funny just after you ragged on it. I use the same one you have. This video did not show them refilling them, which would have been awesome. For the SH one refills effortlessly, and you can completely rinse it, and it has varriable soap dispensing depending on how far you are from the spout. It woudl have been the winner, its at $60.

I had the winner (simple human) but it went through batteries so fast! I ended up giving it away because I didn't like how many batteries it used

Need to test battery life in these also and if they start giving less and less soap getting clogged cause that was my problem with one i bought
$40 for a soap dispenser when hand pumps are already built into pretty much every soap bottle is hard to justify. Plus who cares if the soap pump is contaminated? You're washing your hands right after touching it.
This is what I was thinking through the whole video. I even refill those hand pump bottles.
If anyone wants to complain about the manual hand pumps, they can always disinfect the pump by washing it by hand and spray it with an antibacterial spray.

If that is not a value for you, that is up to you. The point is that you have a no touch pump. Nothing is free. ITs not overkill.

@@DearHenryA We did that for years. Then I got tired of having to re-sanitize the hand pump part. Especially after handling poultry etc. Cross contamination. I too considered it a mit much to buy one. However, when I did, A no touch dispenser is definitely a game changer. Clean, and it pays for itself.

The small Simple Human pump isn't built well, after 3-4 years ours quit. As did the replacement. And it chews through batteries, which must be inserted in the bottom, which encourages the soap fill to leak.
Perhaps their more expensive model is better.
Is there a soap dispensing pump for foaming hand wash type?
I don't know about the self dispensing ones, but I have a hand pump model that provides foam soap, but I have to use more than I'd normally to be as effective than the straight Method soap. Essentially, the soap I use is diluted with water when refilling, but it also weakens the soap's effectiveness. YMMV of course.

I had a Simple Human touch free dispenser once a few years back. Started leaking all over the place. I'm a bit wary.
The problem with automatic soap dispensers in a kitchen is that you can't control the volume of soap dispensed. If your hands are greasy then you need a lot of soap. But if you are doing a number of decontamination washes between tasks your hands are mostly clean and you just need a dab of soap.
Myself, I just fill a manual dispenser with Dawn for the kitchen and use it both for cleaning dishes and hands.
It's the same issue with manual dispensers. If you want more you pump more. With automatic you wave your hand under the dispenser and it will dispense more soap.
@@johnj5p But, for a minor touch-up cleaning of my hands in the kitchen I can get a full lather with Dawn dishwashing detergent with a volume equal to 1-2 grains of rice from a manual dispenser. The automatic dispensers in this video seemed to put out a minimum volume of 1-2 teaspoons of soap.

I just took the manual pump mechanism off a bottle of baby wash and put it on my dish soap bottle. It fits perfectly, works great and best of all cost nothing!
I’ve often wondered why someone would buy these devices, the point being you are about to wash your hands to remove any germs, dirt etc. DUH!

How dirty the soap dispenser is doesn't matter one bit because you're washing your hands. What you need to watch out for is the faucet handles/knobs. You touch those before when your hands are contaminated, then wash, and then touch the handles again after thereby contaminating your hands again. Much better to invest in a touchless faucet if you care about microbes that much

I just drip soap on the hand pump after I lather my hands to keep it clean.
We did that too. then you gotta brush it, rinse it dry it... else you have a slimy mess.
I purchased 2 of the one on the end.. one wasn't used very often at all.. after a year they both stop working... simple human is expensive trash...
I do something crazy. I wash the soap dispenser while I wash my hands.
Anyone trying to get a cheaper one beware of bottoms they will get wet and the compartment for batteries can corrode
Or you could just use a bar of soap and rise the soap bar while washing your hands for less than a dollar........

@@WeatherManToBe Oh, heavens no. Bar soap is cheaper to buy and to use. Liquid soap is a convenience, and you're paying for the water to dilute it and the packaging to hold and ship it. I'm not judging anyone for using liquid soap--but realize that it's not the economy option.
@@ajs11201 it's actually the reverse. Bar soap is the more convenient option. Liquid soap is cheaper BECAUSE it isn't diluted. For example, $4 worth of bar soap would last less than a 1/4 of the time $4 of liquid soap lasts. You are paying for the shipping and additives for the convenience of not needing a container.

You should get a sensored faucet. It's fantastic to have in the kitchen.
@@CreamyJalapeno Those are cool, indeed. The faucet we have has a large lever on the side which allows you to use the back of your hand if you have grimy hands. I was thinking of putting one of those in when I changed out the kitchen faucet, but Im renting so there was a $$$ consideration.

Well. Here's the deal. Neither the water faucet nor the soap nor the bottle of detergent will ever touch the food. The only important thing is to keep your hands clean. Touch the faucet and the bar of soap and the bottle of dish detergent. It is more important to know when to wash your hands and to do it well than to engage in some kind of hygiene theater. Although I like most of these product evaluations, I have to give this one a FAIL.

Maybe I just don't get it, but why be so concerned about contaminating a soap dispenser? Whoever touches the 'contaminated' soap dispenser will be washing their hands immediately after, right? So why the fuss? I'd be more concerned about turning on the water with germy hands and then reinfecting your clean hands when turning it off.
Isn't this over engineering? When you use the soap dispensor and contaminate it, you're still washing and rinsing anyway. There is no scenario where you touch the soap dispensor and not wash.
Rinse your hands thoroughly before using the soap. Problem solved, no batteries or refilling required.

I have a large bowl of soapy hot water with about a half teaspoon of chlorine in the sink while I cook. That takes care of everything, no dispenser required!

Bullshit. They give the price they paid at the time they purchase the items they test. Prices change, and in particular the prices at Amazon rapidly change in response to increased demand, rather than to changes in Amazon's actual cost.
@@seikibrian8641 I do, in fact, know the standard price for this item bc I purchased it eight years ago when it was first launched and the standard price has not changed. Since I have had to repurchase regularly, I know that the price doesn’t changed even on Amazon, bc I look regularly. Besides, they should be telling the consumer the standard price that the company states since this is THE MOST ACCURATE. In my original comment, I even recommended that folks go to BBB and use their 20% coupon bc that is the cheapest way to purchase this item. Even SH only offers 15% off of it is your first purchase from their site.

The idea that "contaminating the soap dispenser" is something necessary to avoid is strange to me. The very next thing you do after touching the soap dispenser is you WASH YOUR HANDS. Your hands are clean no matter what your dispenser is "contaminated" with.
I worked in healthcare -- a field, like food service, in which clean hands are not just a good idea but a legal and moral requirement -- for about thirty years, and I never saw a touchless soap dispenser. They just make no sense.
The thing that really needs to be hands-free is your faucet handle. Hospital sinks have levers you can operate with your forearm.
Kitchens can be tight. You may have to move it or contact by accident and don't want to cross contaminate
@@WeatherManToBe My first kitchen was so small I almost couldn't work in it, and cross-contamination was never an issue. You don't put a soap dispenser in your path. At worst, mount it on a wall.
Yeah it’s okay that if your hands aren’t messy. It’s like what in the video showed in a kitchen you get your hands messy with oil, chicken juice or eg your entire hands covered with marinade sauce, you then have to touch the dispenser and getting it dirty. I know you can use the back of your hands or arms to press the dispenser but it’s not really a practice of a household setting. Times my little sister and I bake she got her hands with wipe cream, used the soap dispenser getting it all with cream and I’ve to clean the entire dispenser and bottle
@@cookiecastaneda4270 The point isn't that your hands will or won't pick up whatever might be on the dispenser. The point is that, no matter what is or isn't on your hands after you touch the dispenser, the next thing you always do is wash your hands. You never put soap on your hands and not wash them.
I agree with you totally. It is the touch free faucet you want. Previous owner had a foot operated cold water sink installed on the living room dinning room divider that acts as a bar. That thing was so useful during covid, come in from the garage, shoes off, foot on the pedal, squeeze some soap, clean hands. No faucet handle to touch. Though I will say before all this crap of a year, didn't find it useful, because you sort of had to keep it pressed for it to work, and it only shoots out cold water, not great for washing a lot of cups when you want the water always on, great for washing hands though or a lime or two. Probably a good thing to have if you got room for a bar faucet, plus makes the bar looks cleaner, no faucet handle, and nothing to knock glass into.
