A Harp Twins *original song* - the 7th track of our new WINTER LIGHTS album (links under the video)! *We wrote both the music and the lyrics of NORDIC SOLSTICE.* This original song pays homage to our Scandinavian heritage. We found out recently that some of our Norwegian ancestors lived north of the Arctic Circle in Norway. The Winter Solstice has an important place in life, mythology and history - especially in northern parts of the world when the days are dark and the nights are long. The Scandinavian people of northern Europe celebrated the period of “midwinter”/winter solstice with the holiday, Jul/Yule, from which many modern day Christmas traditions are descended. We wanted the song to celebrate the rebirth of the sun after the longest night of the year. Everything that you hear in the video is just our harps and our voices - exactly like we can perform it live with no overlays or backtracks. Reposing the lyrics, I do enjoy the lyrics but it was interesting to hear that this was originally an instrumental piece. I do love instrumental music (big part of the reason why I'm here) but it's hard for me to imagine this without the lyrics now that I've gotten used to hearing it that way. Another solstice has come upon us as 2021 draws to a close. As we now approach Christmas and the New Year we pray for a year in which Covid is defeated and we look for signs of hope and new life. It is something of a double irony that I discovered this song on this date. First, I enjoy watching/listening to winter themed subjects in High Summer. It is my way to stay cool but oddly enough today is unseasonably cool and the Winter Solstice theme felt almost timely. Specifically, I found this Original Composition to be superb. The Essence of Night and Cold were profoundly captured(but not forlornly[Sun's Rebirth]). Words alone do not convey the pleasure this video gave me. Thank You.

We love to sing and we sing some in our live shows. Another solstice has come upon us as 2021 draws to a close. As we now approach Christmas and the New Year we pray for a year in which Covid is defeated and we look for signs of hope and new life. Already the daffodil leaves are emerging in the garden and the magnolia is budding. And perhaps Camille and Kennerly will find a way to cross the Atlantic to bring sunshine and their own echos of life to us here in England.

We love to sing but we like to show what we can do with only our two harps since we are a real life harp duo. Our arrangements are complex. We do not want the harp to be only a filler for singing. We want our harps to have center stage. Our videos are self-made by the 2 of us with only our 2 harp parts - but No backtrack, Karaoke, harp overlays, loops, studio recording, videographer, or crew. When we do sing, we want to keep it real, the harp part complex, and make the singing fit with our harp duet arrangements without diminishing "center-stage" for the harps :) :)
We hope you can hear us perform live someday! Our shows are a blast and the sound is much better than the compressed sound that UA-cam allows us!

It is something of a double irony that I discovered this song on this date. First, I enjoy watching/listening to winter themed subjects in High Summer. It is my way to stay cool but oddly enough today is unseasonably cool and the Winter Solstice theme felt almost timely. Specifically, I found this Original Composition to be superb. The Essence of Night and Cold were profoundly captured(but not forlornly[Sun's Rebirth]). Words alone do not convey the pleasure this video gave me. Thank You.
