- HOW TO MAKE A VARIABLE POWER SUPPLY
In this video I have made a variable power supply using an adjustable voltage regulator LM 317 and a power transistor to increase its output current . I have tried to make this video as easy as it could be and used common components. I Hope it would be helpful
COMPONENTS:
1- 1X LM 317
2- 1X D1047 TRANSISTOR
3- 1X BD139 TRANSISTOR
4- 1X 5 K OHM VERIABLE RESISTOR
5- 1X 10 K OHM VERIABLE RESISTOR
6- 1X 4.7 K OHM RESISTOR
7- 1X 4.7 OHM 10 WATT RESISTOR
8- 1X 220 OHM RESISTORS
9- 1X LED
10- 2X2 PIN TERMINAL BLOCKS
11- HEAT SINKS
12- 1X VERO BOARD
13- SOME WIRES

I don't know how much max apmere it supports , But I'm success with It. Thank You. I just tested under 2Amp, 12Volt and it's Okay.
*I did not found D1047 Transistor, So I used 2 NPN transistor TIP122 in parallel and it works. Thank you again.*

Yes, I made it on bread board for test. Yes It works very nice. I used a 2k variable resistor on the place of 220 ohm so that the highest volt is under control when it is more than 24v input. And I used 1n5408 power rectifier diode for bridge rectifier. And tip35c transistor for power transistor. Coz it's wattage is more. Great project sir, thnx.

What is the input voltage?
What is the max current it can output
@@chargedlabs3506 well D1047 transistor is rated for 12 amps. You could easily use it for upto 8 amps with appropriate heat sink. Just don't forget that it's a linear regulator. So bigger heat sink is required.

I want to use this circuit for 12v electromagnet. Electromagnet heats up a lot.
I want to keep my electromagnet ON for long time, as I am using it as door lock ( generally office door stays lock for longer time than open)
Any suggestions will that work to keep temperature of electromagnet cool ... I am ok with less electromagnet strength if we provide less voltage and current.
Whats the recomended mximum input for this??

hi body .i can't undestand how do you conect the green line out of bd139 to 10k potentiometer pin 1 .is it conect to this pin? or it just go to base line of D1047?
Hello, I just finished the design of your source and it works, I can vary voltage and current, but when I connect a test load of 2.2Ohm 10W, the voltage drops to 1.8V, it should not stay in the selected range before connecting the load ?

LM317 3rd leg is for output, but you connect this leg with Vin. Can you please tell me why?

I want approximately a minimum of 6 volts output and 3 to 4 amps, in a variable state where only the output amps are of specific requirement.

U need a transformer of 45 amp 27 volt minimum if u have different taps like 9 ,18,27 it is better to avoid power loss. Then need 4 diodes 40 amp and 4700mfd 4 to 6 nos then lm 3i7 and 3 nis 2n3055 parallel
