LYRICS
When the curtain falls it rolls, unwraps, reminds me the person that I am. I'm still afraid, ashamed, of what's behind me, but you gave me the strength to stand.
sha sha shake it off go get the things you want. I'll bottle the shame ( bottle the shame ). Just sha sha shake it off, and no one will ever know ( won't know ).
I'm a slave to all these voices in my head, and I'm afraid I'm afraid of what they've said. Im a slave.
Sometimes when no ones left to listen ill sit and argue w myself. Say all the things I wish to tell you, without hurting someone else.
sha sha shake it off go get the things you want. I'll bottle the shame. bottle the shame. Just sha sha shake it off, and no one will ever know ( won't know ).
I'm a slave to all these voices in my head, and I'm afraid I'm afraid of what they've said. Im a slave to all these voices in my head, and I'm afraid they'll walk with me until my end.
Hey you, whend ya get so cold? Hey you, just do what you're told, do what you're told. Hey you, you're gonna be a star. As long as you'll let us we'll make you the person that you aren't.
I'm a slave to all these voices in my head, and I'm afraid I'm afraid of what they've said. Im a slave ( I'm a slave ) to all these voices in my head, and I'm afraid ( I'm afraid ) they'll walk w me until my end.
Sha sha sha shake it off go get the things you want. I'll bottle the shame (bottle the shame).
I think this song and Sometimes You're The Hammer are the best two songs on the album. Right Back At It Again and I'm Already Gone are really good as well.
Listen to The Document Speaks for Itself and come back :)
imSulfurate yes!!
imSulfurate don't forget about end of me
Let's just agree that the entire album is great.
city of ocala tho
_Sometimes when no ones left to listen ill sit and argue with myself. Say all the things I wish to tell you, without hurting someone else. Sha sha shake it off go get the things you want. I'll bottle the shame. bottle the shame. Just sha sha shake it off, and no one will ever know ( won't know )._ I think I fell in complete love with this song after the first time I listened to this song.
"STAHP."
Kyle Rash lolol
I heard the half life scientist saying stop lol
This song is just absolutely perfect. This song is literally me put into lyrics, however cliche it may sound. I've had it playing on repeat for like 2 hours now. I might even sleep to it...
Still mad this song wasn't bigger, my favorite ADTR song
This entire album is one of the most underrated albums of all time. Fell in love with it and especially this song from the first listen.
All of their songs and this is your favorite ?😂
This song is sooo under appreciated. This song hit me the hardest. More than any if their other songs. This song! This is what best describes me
Me too
Do chu have kik CX ??
To each to his own but nevertheless this is an amazing song
I've been into ADTR since about 2009 when my friend introduced me to Homesick. Of all their songs, this may very well be my favorite. It's really unique - super catchy, aggressive, displays the great vocal range, somehow melodic, and brilliant lyrics.
"Hey you, just do what you're told, do what you're told.
Hey you, you're gonna be a star.
As long as you'll let us we'll make you the person that you aren't. "
^ this just screams victory records reference
exactly, it gives me the chills!!
100 percent family.
"Hey you, when you get so cold"*********
Sounds like the music industry in general. He’s a slave.
Amazing song from an amazing album. The variety in songs is fantastic. So many bands, especially this genre, have albums where front to back you can't distinguish between songs because they're all the same. Adtr has a range, and they're fantastic at both heavy, mellow, and everything in between.
Cant believe its already been 8 years since this song came out.....i feel old as hell, still the best band
When a song gets you choked up for no reason , though know there's heart
This band will forever be awesome
Still think this?
@@vegitogogeta4110 yeah dummy
@@vegitogogeta4110 I do
Damn right.
I bought this album when it came out and only listened to violence until now. I'm obsessed with these songs now.
This song is soo What Seperates Me From You
agreed
I was trying to find if and I went through the whole album with no luck but then I got mind fucked by Google
Yeah it really feels like it'd belong there, but this song is great nonethesless.
Creeper333pl fuck you bitch
but this a good song tho
my favorite line is "sometimes when no one's left to listen I'll sit and argue with myself, say all the things I wish to tell you without hurting someone else"
2:42 didn't know lil wayne was featured on this track
+dylanandstuff best part of the song
"EYAHHHHHH"
You mean lil john
😂😂😂
People say ADTR doesn't sound the same but I feel like their musical journey has been perfect progression of their sound. ADTR and Silverstein are the only bands that still have close roots to their original sound, love this album!
Couldn't agree more. Every band changes it's called growing up. And usually the fan base will grow with them.
Thursday
Facts
I never thought that I'll come back to this song almost 8 years later just to say that I've been related to this situation so bad, at least for last couple years.
I grew up listening to this and 6 Years later I am still in love with it ❤
I've had Common Courtesy since it came out and I never listened to this song until a few months ago! I feel so bad this is a great song
+DropDead Darling oh man, you've missed out xD
One does not simply, not listen to the entire album. It's common courtesy.
yelling stop at 1:59 is one of my favorite moments of this song.
2:00 I'm flying.
It's 11 in the morning where I'm from right now
i wonder what means the "@ 11"
Life @ 11 probably means the last hour of life (so to speak). Late life. 12 is usually symbolism for an end.
I think it means Life at 11 as in life at 11 years of age. Or maybe 11 years in the music business (because they've been official since '03, so it makes sense)
maybe it could mean literally what it says..life at 11...like 11pm at night...feeling like a slave to voices. could be talking about self hate depression or fear, but also the line that says as long as you let us we'll make you the person you aren't, or you gave me strength to stand, could be meaning trying to help someone out of their own personal darkness. ???
I dunno just taking some guesses, that's what I kinda "imagine" when i hear this.
StarRimmedGlasses Idk though cause this whole album is dedicated to how fucked up victory records is and I can hear that alot in that song "hey you your gonna be a star, as long as you let us we'll make you the person that you aren't" I want to say that the name of this song as some type of significance to that
roboytoaight could be him talking to him self at night you knwo? like what do we all do around 11pm when were trying to sleep? we just think. and this song goes deeper than we probably now.
Reminds me of Another Song About The Weekend because it's like the happiest song on the album.
"I'm a slave to all these voices in my head,
And I'm afraid, I'm afraid of what they've said.
I'm a slave to all these voices in my head,
And I'm afraid they'll walk with me until my end."
If this is your idea of happy, I'm worried for you.
Yeah that's what I meant haha. Minus the lyrics, it sounds pretty happy
***** The sound isn't as happy as Leave All The Lights On or I Surrender ;)
Porkchop King So I Remember is less happier than this song? KK GUYS
Skylark I never said that dude?
This is the best jam on the whole record. Lyrics, beat and guitar are ALL on point.
my favorite song off of common courtesy
That bridge with the voices and the instrumental that follows get me everytime
Fuckin A man - brilliant
I can't find the guitar chords for these, does anyone know them?
1:59 Stop!!!
the suspense at 1:53 was always my favorite part
hola eres hermosa , bye (:
🖤🖤🖤
I think this is my favorite song off this album...I think I replayed this song about 10 times on my first listen through the album.
This is literally the best song on the album why so little views :(
Alchohlica This album is literally full of bangers, though.
STAHP
tjd2466 I like to think on the lyric sheet Jeremy actually wrote it like that.
I can relate to this song too well im afraid
My dad passed away about 2 weeks before this album dropped.. this band got me through so much shit man. I love you ADTR❤️
Be honest, who else relates to this song? :( 🖤
I got a full music video for an advertisement 😂
This song grew on me 2nd time :) TIME TO LISTEN TO THE OTHER SONGS!
My 2nd favourite song on Common Courtesy after 'I Remember'
This Song reminds me of a woman I knew for such a long time and fell in love with it. Didn’t have the courage to tell her I loved her until I was married
This has become one of my favorite songs in recent times
The lyrics of this song sound like maybe what he’s going through right now...
1:59 gives me chills each time I hear it.
I love that part so much! I will be listening to this song with headphones on and every time that part comes, I say Stop with him! I have definitely seen people are me stop what they are doing. It makes me laugh to myself. I just keep doing what I am doing and they look puzzled. lol.
Please make this your next single!
I listen to this song everyday, and I love it so much. Thank you so much for creating such an inspirational song.
such a cool song....pumped 4 soundwave perth
No matter what happens, you've always got adtr
oh my gosh I love this song so much
the recording sounds so good.. the bass guitar =
STOP.
that totally surprised me lol. awesome
Common Courtesy have a special place in my heart, first because the whole thing is awesome, this album don't has a single bad song, and second because it was in the Common Courtesy Latin American Tour i saw ADTR live for the first time, they pulled out a great show, i will always remember the night, thanks ADTR for everything, you are one of my favorite bands
My favorite song on the album. Oh, I bought their sweater from their store, with the album art from CC. Best. Sweater. Ever.
Still a slave to all the voices in my head…thank u adtr for common courtesy giving me a way to cope
Stop!! I fucking love this
2021 still bangs 🤘
Am I the only one that thinks that this is the absolute best song on the album
Whoa, guys and gals can we say another AMAZING album from ADTR? Awesome job guys, fan for life here!
Definitely my favorite on the album. Good job on the whole album guys!
-favorite song-
i miss adtr :'( i hope i see them again
Does anyone know what all the voices are saying?
All I can make out is "That is the stupidest thing-" "I already said that" "That's racist!(?)"
I got a tattoo of a latin quotation over a year ago across my chest. It reads "Nemo liber est qui corpori servit" translation "no one is free who is a slave to their own body" It relates to so many self doubts and vices like this song is about.
Great song, Great band. Need to come to NJ
been a fan since and their name was treason, love u guys 4 life
I hope every problem of theirs end soon and they find a decent record company. Nevertheless, they showed that without a record a band can still produce awesome music that everyones loves and adore.
I think they decided to just publish their music under their own label now, hence their channel ADTR Records.
I think you are right. best of luck to them :) thank you :)
***** They have their own record label now. One reason I respect them heavily.
same here! I'm really proud of them :)
this album is everything
hands down one of the best adtr songs
Dem feels @ 2:00
Классная песня
can't believe its been 9 years
Yeaaaaah!!
What is the meaning of "life '@' 11" ?
Sorry I don't get it :x
I look at the meaning of this as him telling the viewpoint of somebody who is 11 years old (just elaborating on all options, the song mentions dirnking so probably not lol) but I would most likely say it's supposed to from the viewpoint of a teenager, maybe 14 to 25 years and even older, at 11pm who is down and reflecting on life. I go with the latter because i think it makes more sense, personally because i have anxiety/depression, but the lyrics in this song can apply a variety of mental illnesses.
He takes the viewpoint of somebody around that age group (14-25) who is dealing with some sort of mental illness, as well as having dealt with an even greater (possibly greater, unknown/irrelevant?) mental illness / physically real thing such that is traumatizing in the past. The lyrics say things such as "I'm still afraid, ashamed, of whats behind me" and "I'm a slave to all these voices in my head, and I'm afraid of what they've said".
The song goes on to emphasize the singer having some kind of mental illness by saying things like "Sometimes when no ones left to listen, i'll sit and argue with myself, say all the things i wish to tell you, without hurting someone else". This stretch of lyrics is basically saying he keeps going on and obsessing about things even to himself when everybody else has gone home, or whatever (relating to the title of life @ 11). As well as talking about the anxiety and worry about other's feelings when knowing pieces of information about them that they're sensitive about.
He's dealing with a weight on him everyday from all this stress and anxiety, by writing "Shake it off, i'll bottle the shame...and no one will ever know" suggesting he is turning to alcohol regularly to cope, hiding it, and it could be the sign of a problem. He then continues by quoting the lyric "hey you whendya get so cold? hey you, do what your told!" Him being cold is caused by the ongoing stress/anxiety/pressure of people and the following lyric is kind of ironic because the people telling him to do what he's told are asking him why he's cold before (even though they partially made him that way by forcing him to listen).
The last lyric I mentioned, is perhaps the part that gives the most accurate descirption of the songs meaning. The lyrics have a very personal aspect to them, as the people telling somebody (Assumably Jeremy, the lead singer) that he's gonna be a star. This is probably timeframed around ADTR's rise before fame, vocalizing the people around Jeremy. As well as the last bit, "we'll make you the person that you aren't" suggesting that the people who helped Jeremy and the rest of ADTR get to the top (record labels, managers, family/friends for support) make Jeremy and the others a completely different, fake person, all for profit. Meanwhile, this has severely negative mental impacts on the boys and it comes out of them at night especially, and that, is life @ 11.
Sorry for my probably over-analyzed explanation of this song, excuse any typos, very tired.
TLDR; Song is about Jeremy and the ADTR members on their rise to fame, and the stress/anxiety caused by life and the pressure of the people around them on the way to fame, and the mental illnesses it has caused them, and he's reflecting on it at 11pm. This can also be related to an everyday person suffering from a mental illness such as stress/anxiety growing up.
+Andrew Mclalin completely agree
Bruna O. title? No clue. song sounds like it's about schizophrenia
Andrew Mclalin thank you very much! Well, I notice that @ is a symbol for the word "at", as you say "reflecting on it at 11" so I guess it make sense. But please correct me if I am wrong..
Bruna O. I think it means the year 2011. He might be referring to his previous label and how they treated him. "I'm a slave to all of these in my head" "When you'd get so cold".
Most underrated album of all time imo

Please put this on soundcloud!!!!!!!!!
I'm begging you!
Whose still listening in 2018?
Trey Ossenfort 2020
This is my all time favorite :)
I've listened to most of the Cd, it's pretty good. I love how they bring in the singer of Paramore on one song, she killed it.
What song is Haley on? Don't remember hearing her and I've listened to this album a lot.
Haley is not featured on this record at all
I think he may have been confused with If it means a lot to you...and that's still doesn't have Haley on it. This guys' on dope.
The only person that this album features is Lil Jon. You can hear his part at 2:42.
if it had haley williams, they would've mentioned it
I needed this song today
Omg soo happy
LUVZ this song !!!!!!
Anyone 2020?!
Yeah bro
❤️
best song on common courtesy hands down
You got me through my teen years 💜
These guys got me through so much pain, even after high school ha ha ha. They will forever be in my heart and my soul.
Underrated track
Like a living
This band is way too good haha
Happy new year
Am I the only one who's wondering what happened to "Same Book, But Never The Same Page"?
Underrated fuckin song. Underrated album.
Amazing song!
same chords as " you cant take, take, take , take it away from me " .. but at 2x speed :)
This is the best freaking band !!!!!!!!😍😍😍😍😍
Here for the masterpiece in 2021?
Why is Same Book But Never the Same Page not on here??
listening @ 11:11
But are you listening on 11/11?

FUCKING LOVE IT SO MUCH!!!!!!
What's the song about?
