- On the southern edge of the Black Hills is Hot Springs, South Dakota.
This historic town of about 3500 people is known for it's natural hot springs, (of course) with attractions such as Evans Plunge - an indoor hot water spring pool, Moccasin Springs Water Center, and the Mammoth Site.
Just a few minutes north of popular water sporting lake Angostura Reservoir.
Hot Springs is also home to a VA hospital.
About an hour from Rapid City, the homes are cheaper, but smaller.

I live in Hot Springs and it is so weird watching this video and seeing how far the construction has come from this video, to what it is now. Thank you for showcasing our quiet and quaint little town.
seeing the sidewalks and all the roads and businesses is amazing
@Zanox.1.23 It is a lovely place, just don't mind the amount of construction lol. I enjoy living here and the history this town has.
It was a few months ago, wasn't it? Glad they are making progress cuz it was quite the mess. 🤣
@TristanEmond It still is a big mess and with tourist season here, it is worse lol.
@@SnyperNelson "It'll be nice when it's done" hahaha Can't complain too much about those tourists dropping cash. :)
Hot Springs is where I bought my land to build my retirement home and yes it a very nice town and I can not waiting to move there. I do enjoy your channel.
Thanks for watching and being a fan. It's nice and laid back down there!
Approx how much does it cost to build a house in SD or in Hot Springs? Thank-you! I am looking into SD for my retirement place to live. I am torn between land or an already built house on a smaller land.
I love that there is a lot of little towns and still so much hustle and bustle
Some people love the little town feel. Others think there is nothing there. haha
Looks like a nice little town.
It really is!
Love Hot Springs!
You guys have probably spent a few minutes down there, eh? haha!
Thanks so much for doing the drive-thru of Hot Springs! It definitely looks like a mellow place to live. :-)
You are so welcome! Yeah if you are used to busy events all night long, this ain't the place for you. haha
🙂😀@@TristanEmond
Drive in is good time to talk about geology of area, history, etc
I should bring along someone that knows about that stuff. 🤣 I wouldn't be a good tour guide with that info so I talk about what I know. 🤷♂️
Beautiful! Thank you!
Certainly is a lot prettier in summer than the winter tho. haha! You can never go wrong with a walk downtown though.
Thanks for Hot Springs drive along video.
Been looking at that area for a while.
Glad I could help!
❤❤❤
😁
I've lived there multiple times and have family there. They use to have a coffee place I believe called the Java hut and also a nice family restaurant at the end of main on the right before Evans Plunge. Not sure why you didn't show the parks or ball diamond. Or naming off the grocery stores Which is Sonny's and Lynn's Dakota Mart. You need a wider lens to show people a town not just you driving just saying
Thanks for your comment! I probably shoulda shown the parks - darg. I'm just trying to give people a quick glimpse into the town to see if they want to research it more. 🤷♀ Then they can come a visit and get a better feel for it.
@greart-qe1hj the people that live there love that it's so small. I've had people coming from Nevada thinking they wanted to slow down. They visited here and said, nope...too small. haha
Nice Video. The town seems nice and quite but pretty windy. I wonder if the winds are normal there?
Yah we got da wind. 🌬 typically we'll see 10-20mph pretty normally - summer months we'll generally see less. It can gust 40-50mph sometimes. 🤷♂️
How do people adjust to the unpleasant very cold and windy weather in South Dakota, especially retirees? What kind of medical services exist in South Dakota?
You do kinda get used to it - but the right clothing is important, as well as knowing when to stay inside when the weather isn't something you are interested in playing in. After awhile, it'll feel weird if the wind isn't blowing. 😂
Rapid City and the Black Hills has the Monument Health system of care and Sioux Falls has Sanford. Some of the smaller towns around will have clinics and smaller hospitals, but will most likely send most of the specialty stuff to RC or SF.
Does Hot Springs have broadband internet? I'm a remote worker.
I couldn't find the 2 broadband carriers there (Midco and Bluepeak). Most of the city has Golden West Communications, which is kind of a hybrid DSL - probably 25mbps Max. I sold a home to a client down there and the sellers say they use verizon mifi since it's faster. TMobile may also be an option. There are towers nearby so speeds should be ok - just not the 1-2 you get with the broadband companies.
@@TristanEmond Thank you. I'm familiar with Golden West. I've watched some of their videos to learn more about the cable industry. I've lived in SD before so no illusions. My sister lives there and for some reason thinks I'd like Hot Springs more than Rapid. Trouble is, I am an urbanite. Best description I've heard of Rapid is by somebody that lives there and is from a big city. "A little bit of everything but not a lot of anything".
@@mh0862 that's pretty much a perfect description! 🤣 you may enjoy Rapid better just due to having those things around. I had clients from Vegas thinking about slowing down w a move to Hot Springs. After they visited they changed the mind..."too slow" 😎
