After finishing this installation, this youtuber throw away his computer and open a bicycle shop. 😁
😂
@@chinmayshalawadi1 lol bro
I wouldn't want him working on my bike. It might take him 6 days to replace my reflector.
This is how real engineering is done. You start with a simple need, but end up learning so much. In reality it was probably efficient to just buy a bike with this in the first place. But your learning experience with this is priceless. Well done for ploughing through this and sharing all the problems and how you solved it! And also crediting all the videos in the process - very few people do this!
I don't usually comment on YT, but you really deserve an appreciation....Great work bro.
Thank you so much, means a lot!
Thanks a tonne bro. I was actually considering adding a gearkit to my wife's cycle myself, as other videos on youtube make it look simple. But no one spoke of axle length, frame widening, chain and crankset teeth thickness etc. This was really eye opening. Now I am just going to take it to a mechanic to get done. Thanks!!!
Glad that video was helpful :D
Try to get it done by some expert and not the hard way.
For me its your last line that got mr🤣🤣🤣😭
good work brother I am software engineer at the same time a cyclist too what you have done is a great stepping forward not your career but in your life, bicycles gave me the life that I wanted from a tired and stressful life in the tech world it gave me balance and more physical activities now I am able to ride bike with my gf, my brother and sometimes my with friends. Keep it up don't let the stressful industry swallow you up it is better to be balanced than to be stressed
Thank you so much! Yes!! I worked as an IoT engineer for quite a while in the last 2 years.
Totally understand what you're saying 😃
This video is brilliant - is shows your perseverance through ongoing challenges. And instead of giving up you just problem solved for a while before figuring out the solution. Well done
Thank you for the detailed explanation, got a great idea of what problems I can face if I choose to go ahead and a different perspective on the solutions! Great job
Thanks for sharing your experience of converting a single speed to a multi speed bike. I was suprised to see the special challenges that you had to over come. Great info. Cheers.
i admire your determination in avoiding buying parts and instead, learn and making workarounds with what you have!
Love the effort you put into the job as well as making the video! ❤
Thank you friend. Now I can think about doing a similar conversion!
A zhengbu k6 16 inch!
I really appreciate your hard work. You literary learned a software from scratch inorder to make your bicycle work. Keep going dude
This is Perseverance !
Glad to see people like you are still existing .
very useful information overall👍🏻...it’s really helpful for someone looking to restore/alter the bicycle on their own.....and hats off to ur efforts on learning 3D printing just for getting it perfect😍
Thank you!
I was trying to fix my kids cycle ... your video helped me alot ! thanks !
Dude, awesome job!! Very thorough presentation! Keep up the great work! 👍
Thank you so much
Finally. I've been searching all over the internet the past month or so to see if I could find a video to answer 'one' question. Can you put a multi speed 'freewheel' on a fixie/single speed hub? And the answer is, yes you can. Thank you so much for all the knowledge and information you provided through the problems you had to solve to complete your project/bike build. You sir are a enigma, an anomaly, better yet, a superstar.
Meditative experience to ridiculous 🤣
Great video bud
Even better that it’s in English!
Very informative and honest
Thanks for that!
Thank you!
Bhai ma bhi soch rha tha ki apni cycle ma gear add kru but apki video sa pta chla ki kitni prblm hoti h ab nhi kruga thanx for information. keep it up
From outside it just looks like a mad project. But it is a significant achievement and needs to be appreciated. Moreover he is enjoying it. So well done bro....👍👍👍
thank you!
Me, I'd have just bought another bike and called it a day. Having an off center wheel and brakes is not something I would want, but I will say, awesome job getting your project finished.
My idea was to convert a cool old 1960s single speed cruiser into a multi- gear bike. Thank you for convincing me not to try it- too much of a hassle. Maybe another way would be to install an internal gear hub ??
Described all the problems faced and solutions thereupon too. Great 👍
Nice work.
Good documentation.
I have done plenty of DIY on motorcycles when I was younger.
My only q.
After everything was done, could you manage to get the rear wheel properly aligned , as in, centered?
Great work man other UA-camrs make it seem so fucking easy for diy yet it's tough
I agree with that👍🏿
It looks like I watched a movie. Problems after a problem and finally a happy ending.
Good job man!
You the man.. thank you for going through all this trouble for me..
One thing I noted is how he used, Yonex badminton/tennis racquet grips for the handlebar grips. I used it too on my bike when I was in school many many years ago.
You deserve more views brother.
You look a bit tired. Take care.
You might have already done this but you could thread your 3d model so that you can add screws and give you more reliability on the snugness
Very insightful information. Thank you.
This is a great video... thanks for sharing! I am looking at adding gears to a fat tyre BMX and then adding an electric motor... This gave me quite a bit of insight into what I'm trying to do. Could you have not just replaced the chain wheel with a compatible one? Or are these universal and an expected challenge?
I could have probably replaced it, but due to pandemic I had to order it and I didn't want to wait too long
I purchased 6 speed gear kit- freewheel and derailleur is from vanum with shimano 7speed rapid fire shifter plus gear chain, now I am facing same problem with chain, gear chain is thinner so I have to sand or file down the chain ring.
Angle grinder reduces your efforts but increases your chances to make mistakes but filing is peace of mind just because it reduced work speed....!
I will share my experience if I face any more problems.....!
Good luck!
Make sure to paint the exposed chainring with some good paint. A spray paint won't work well.
I had this idea some years ago.
And i though about all your problems and how to solve. What i didnt know was the shifter and how to make the space bigger. Too bad i modified aluminum bikes.
Wow you really thought every step through
Great work. You mentioned problem which no other youtuber did. Besides, there aren't any videos on turning a single speed into a 8 speed. You helped me a lot. I was just wondering to know if the ride has become easier in uphill? And doesn't the derailleur get stuck in the wheel while you're on the 1st gear?!
Yes Ride has become so much better uphill. Nope derailleur doesn't get stuck :D
Great Work 👍
I watched lot of videos to put gears in cycle .and i always have some questions . Thnx for making this video ,this video is real truth about installing gear in gearless cycle now i realise that putting gears is not ok in normal cycle
Dude it's pretty normal and simple process..for professionals... he made the whole process so complicated and mind-heated
Just go to shop and let them do 'Their' job
Great work brother !!
Too good. I salute your efforts.
This is a Story of Perseverance...
Great work man
Wow! You really know how to make simple things complicated..... but great attempt. Btw, I'm a bike enthusisast & planning to make my doodhwala bicycle to a geared one soon, except that grinding teeth part. And even 4 gears are better than none.
😂😂 I was learning as I explored the world of biking and the technical knowledge of bikes.
I wonder if I can do this to my throne neo chrome single speed ?
The Guy who never Gives Up & doesnt make excuses ! I shld learn frm u , we r poles apart
Im also considering upgrading my gears and I have come up with a solution regarding the axle not long enough, offset ecc. Maybe buying a rear wheel with 7 speed cog(i found some in Facebook market that is ready to mount) will simplify the job.
Or install a new hub into your wheel. Make sure the diameter of the spoke holes is the same so you can reuse your spokes otherwise it will be too costly.
Great work..thanks for sharing..👍👍👍👍👍👍
Thank you!
Holy shit, you are 1000x better mechanic that those Giant & Trek service centres have
This is a great video, I learned a lot.
Thank you!
Thanks brother you helped me ❤️❤️
Wow! This is great!
How's the long term durability of these add on gears vs factory fitted one's?
The 3d printing ,man that's a great skill, you couldve drilled a hole through the handle bar or added a hose clamp and drilled the hose clamp, the wheel needs to be re aligned or also known as "dished"which basically moves the wheel position to one side more then the other,it is done with a wheel spoke/nipple' tool or an adjustable wrench and by oiling the spoke and nipple thread junctions before doing so,that way the axle will also benefit in giving you more thread on both sides of the axel bolts, check your wheel spokes afterward because some will protrude out of the nipple thread junctions so you may need to file them down afterward, also check your wheel rim holes maybe add duct/pipe tape as a rim liner,to prevent a rim puncture✌
You are right. He should have dished the wheel and can still do that. However it will not make his axle longer 😋
Thanks for sharing 🙏
Thanks for guiding me
I had 24 inch wheel, I want to upgrade it to 26 inch, when I tried it worked for single speed (rear wheel free to rotate 26 inch one) but when I put gears (I already installed it for 24inch) it strikes the frame,... Please anyone know how to keep wheel at the centre even after installing the gears???? Please help me out guys..
You good at troubleshooting man
Man, Great work :)
Wow, really enjoyed the video, learning new skills to fix problems for a basic bike is really something special.
1. Spare Parts:
I am a German living in Taiwan. Here the students have a good infrastructure for cheap repair shops, 2nd hand bikes, and parts around universities. Is this not the case where you live? I mean buying a round handlebar with a stem could be nearly for free, does it not make more sense to buy a 2nd hand handlebar than designing and printing a new bracket?
2. Theft
What is the theft rate where you live? Hope you can keep your special decision for a long time!
Thanks for sharing, keep it up!
Nice work
good work
Before and after filing the gear. Best example for emotional acceleration right? :P
Na na na that was emotional deceleration 😂😂
You were really honest. I liked that. After watching this video I decided to buy a geared cycle instead of modifying a gearless cycle. But I wondered why didn't you buy a new chain which was thicker enough to fit your front chain wheel instead of scrapping off the thickness? What if you get a thick chain next time when the present chain is over used? Any way lot of things you have done. I would have left this project at the first challenge itself 😂😂😂✋👍🏿
😂 man If only the thicker chain worked, thicker chain won't work with the gears at the back and the derailleur
@@chinmayshalawadi1 Then that was the only option bro. I missed it☺️
Great effort 👍
Great job 👍 young man 👏
Good work.
But you have one front gear and 6 in the back?
Shifting through all those gears in the back will cause the chain to bend and it would cause premature wear, grinding noises, clunky shifting and maybe even snapping of chain.
Ha ha ha. Funny.
Holy cow..
Man, you are so stubborn, this is crazy but I salute you
I just bought a zhengbu k6 16 inch wheels. It looks too small to do this. How can I tell for sure?
I wanted the 20 inch version with gears, but the seat is 33" at it's lowest. The k6 16 feels like a scooter, not a bike :(
You should have gotten a thumb shifter, it's smooth and easy to operate
How did you mount and guide the gear cables on the frame? Didn’t you find problems with the cable slacking?
I used zip ties to tie them to the frame of the bicycle
Yar Bhai wheel touch on frame problem solve kasa kiya
Bro you had learnes a lot
Can you Tell me in which company cycle do you install the gear system..
Hercules
Eye opener ..
Bro kaha se iya please link dedo
Great man
RJ the bike guy tutorial on fitting the cassette to the single speed frame, huh? That dude has a tutorial for everything! Lol. The build looks great! How's it doing a year in?
It's doing pretty good, needs more frequent maintenance though. The black paint I had sprayed on wore out and made the chain quite messy.
Shifting and other things have been perfect
I have 91 defeatr can I convert it?
What cycle do you have ?...
And how much does it cost you ?..
Can you maybe make a video while riding the bike
My bicycle is a single speed bicycle with a full aluminum frame. So can I install gear on my cycle?
Aluminum is a bit tricky. Aluminum does not bend that easily. I wouldn't recommend
This guy learned 3d printing just to add gears to his cycle.
good to know there is no need to change the hub
Is their consequences after converting non gear to gear ?
hahaha wow ... but good job in hangin in there . that's what customizing is about . outstandin job sir
Thank you!
Thank you sooooo much for showing the problems that you get so we dont run into such problems.
Dude! you actually did a great job, you are a true engineer. Also, you left one step after cold setting called dropout alignment, check 'rj the bike guy' he has made a video about it, dropout alignment reduces the chance of axle breaking. Best of luck 👍
Thank you :)
I've actually seen that video!!
I figured I'll never be able to align it well since this wheel hub is too wide. And this cycle was never meant to have multiple gears installed.
Only way I can save the axle is by getting a new longer axle and having proper spacers to align the wheel in the dropout.
As it is currently axle will probably get damaged due to misalignment
BBC Shld make this a Short Documentary !
Super guru.. more than anything, Kudos to your determination!!
Superaagude.. next time you're in Mysuru, let's catch up.. inbox me!
Thanks 🙌
Which cycle
It's awesome to learn new things. And you really should understand all aspects of your bike, however after cost of parts and time spent I'm sure just buying a multi speed bicycle would of been cheaper and easier.
Yep definitely 😂.
@@chinmayshalawadi1 How much, if you don't mind me asking?
Hahaha.. I was thinking to do with my voya.. But he made me stunned
You could change the stem and handlebar
Yep that was another option!
@@chinmayshalawadi1 I have a 29inches single speed mtb and I want to install gear in it so what u suggest should I do it or not.??
If you have the time and you like doing such things then go ahead!! It's a great experience. As you saw the process can be quite tedious
Great work.. 🔥
Is this going to work in a single folding bike?
I'm not a 💯 sure, but I think it can be made to work
Amazing
Bro I have vector 91 granite x40 cycle can I upgrade it to gear cycle Pls check out and tell bro please
You are a hardcore DIYer......!
Please give links for the parts!
Please check the description :D
Hi, would you know anyone who can do it for me in Bangalore? And also the appropriate cost? Any leads will be really helpful.
