We found long ago that putting the nipple on a metal pipe elbow then a metal pipe up a bit (a short piece) from that is perfect snugged into a T post lip. Couple of hose clamps holding it snug to the tpost. Hose is higher than what the pigs mess with. Have yet to have to replace/fix a waterer/nipple since.
