If you can figure out where the non PD (and daytona, smart ass) music used in this video is from you get a thumbs up Also I have no idea when the PD2 vid will be ready, but it won't be next. Hoping to get a bunch of vids out early next year so we'll see.
Ha haa the first comment! I'm happy to watch this as someone who has endlessly heard the praises of Panzer Dragoon, but have never really made an effort to try to play it. Also after re-watching your Soul Hackers video (which is an accomplishment as I rarely watch videos twice) and listening to your commentary for this I am even more confident that subbing to you was a good decision Now I'm going to roll over and die because whatever I'm sick with is trying to make me cough out my lungs.
The original Team Andromeda games are really worth your time, especially 2 and Saga! Apparently saturn emulation has gotten much better recently too! Thank you for your support, and get well soon 🙏
"What would you say is the most important 3D ga-" DAYTOOONAAAAAAAA!!! "Okay, but what about something like Super Ma-" DAYTOOONAAAAAAAA!!! Edit: Ha! The video agrees with me. Double edit: Loved this BTW. Thanks for all your hard work. This is such an underrated and amazing series. I wish more people had the opportunity to play it.
@agroed I'm glad I read classic Sega fans correctly haha. I'm not into racing games, but the more I read up on Daytona the more I realized it was pretty important for graphical advancements in 3D gaming early on. It's really impressive, even if it's not for me. Thanks for your feedback 🫡
30 years later I can’t believe how good the soundtracks were of PD and Zwei. Thank god we have LPF to smoothen those edges a bit, because both games are still great today.
The only non-arcade rail-shooter I've played is Kid Icarus Uprising. Panzer Dragoon is a title you hear about often, but is inaccessible because of age or hardware or whatever. I always appreciate videos on niche games. 👍
@EmissaryOfSmeagol it's so silly that Sega is scared of official Saturn emulation, or even a port collection of these games. More people seriously deserve to play them, because they're still so worth it! Thank you for watching 🙏
I can see why you love those pixels. I tried the remake a couple years back and was blown away with how it looked, wondering if the original had the same charm. Well your video tells me that yes, it does. I love how it looks for 1995. 😃
Definitely going to give the remake another look in the future and try to be a bit more open-minded, but it's hard not to be a lil bias when I'm such a sucker for how the Saturn games look haha. Thanks for watching!
@ oh I completely understand. I find you can’t beat the texture of original releases. It just so happened that my first interaction with the game was the remake. 😁
@opaljk4835 The way I see it, if I have the means, I want to record it on original hardware. If I do need to emulate, I prefer to still not force an internal resolution unless it can somehow look good with it. These pixels are just too good to not represent
ok nah bro WHY ON EARTH was this uploaded at the same time I was getting nostalgic for Saturn bro, like I was JUST thinking and watching videos on Panzer Dragoon YESTERDAY. I watched Pandamoniums video TWICE bro
@ one of my favorite strategy games of that generation. It’s not as epic as shining force 3 or as deep as FFT, but it is so fun and cool looking. The Saturn has a couple extra stages as well, but I would suggest using a guide if you want to see them. Otherwise you’d never know you even missed anything
Good old times! I miss it! We need more kind of this games+concept+music. And more games are easy to learn but master it. And not that kind of bullshit-games of today with false Ideology... And your right about Panzer Dragoon Remake. Its so... Hayaaaa.
I'm getting deja vu since I swear I just saw a video about the Sega Saturn recently. I only know about Panzer Dragoon by its cult status (minus the other video on it), so I'd love to hear your takes on it.
"Look me dead in the face and tell me know what an FM Towns Marty is." Not ashamed to admit I started emulating old Japanese computer games once I discovered who Ryu Umemoto was... slightly ashamed to admit what kind most of the games he composed for were, lol. I also like the N64 way more than the PlayStation. Saturn is still the king of the fifth generation, but the N64 was a really cool console and I find its technical design flaws way more palatable than the PlayStation's. I genuinely find the texture issues and vertex rounding wobble completely unpalatable. The lighting in some games was really cool, but I think the mdec coprocessor was just a gimmick and has led to the console ageing very badly compared to the Saturn and N64. I actually like the 64 enough that I almost got into homebrew for it!
@holonholon1141 Honestly super fair! In the PD2 vid I'll prob include a bit bringing up the FM again bc honestly I don't have any actual beef with it I just thought the name was funny and could do a bit on it. Also honestly I don't have a direct issue with the N64 either as a piece of hardware, I just think the library is a bit lacking. Saturn definitely checks all my boxes on both ends with a really cool library of weird games and solid hardware (even if it was hard to dev on, apparently)
A few mistakes creeped in there. Health also restores to some extent after finishing a level; no need to die. The Saturn controller has one of the best D-Pads ever made. And the framerate is mighty fine on an actual Saturn. Maybe there is an issue with yours?
@elgoog-the-third your comments are trying really hard to get an argument going for no reason, so the most I'll give you is that panzer dragoon runs at 20 fps.
I appreciate the enthusiasm for the game, but you're being fast and loose with "bullshit" while not really elaborating on what your issues were. That you had to skip a boss to complete the game suggests that you were unwilling to learn the game on its own terms. There were definitely arcade and arcade style games that did have actual bullshit, but it seems that in this case you simply lacked the context of the game's design needed to make a proper judgment. Panzer Dragoon actually did an incredibly good job of preventing you from taking forced damage, since most "off screen" attacks can be dealt with by simply rotating the camera and taking out the enemies on that side; and it did this years before Star Fox 64. It just seems like you wanted the game to be something it wasn't while not fully understanding the intent behind the game's design.
@multitrackdriftu There's for sure some meaningful bits of criticism here to take and make the next vid better, but ironically there might be a bit of disconnect on what this video is trying to be and what you want presumably would like it to be. And, fair, to an extent! I use a lot of exaggerated comedic shorthand to get things across quickly to not bloat the video, since there's only so much time to talk about the parts of a game I value the most. My channel looks at games mostly in terms of art design and vibes. I do not personally gain much from difficult trial and error game design, so those parts of the game added very little to my enjoyment. There are more than enough things I valued in PD, so I wanted to discuss my hang-ups while not trying to make it seem like I hated the game because of it. I played up my frustration to call parts of the game bullshit in an endearing way, because I find it charming and I don't really care that the game id hard. I no longer felt negatively of the game when writing my script, so the intent was to be subversive in a quirky way. My use of language is loose in general, and I did not expect anyone to hone in on "bullshit" in that way. Oh well, live and learn etc. It was a minor oversight on my part, but you can't please everyone. I'm certainly not trying to. This was exactly the game I wanted it to be, and I stand by that. I'm sorry you didn't find a video that did the game proper justice for you. Hope you find one! Genuinely! Don't have much else to say, and I don't wish to have an internet argument, so that's about all I have left to say on this. Happy holidays.
@@culIen If that is the intended scope of the channel, may I make the suggestion that you title the videos more appropriately? I don't think it's unreasonable to see "Trailblazer of Early 3D Gaming" and expect a more in depth analysis of the game design. FWIW, I didn't hate watch this or anything like that. You definitely have talent, I enjoyed your analysis of the game's vibes as you put it. But you should be presenting your channel as the place to go for vibes, not game design.
@multitrackdriftu hard to really set proper expectations and optics these days, but I get it for sure. Not the best at titling vids, but the title was meant to discuss the literal visual aspect of 3D gaming and how it impressive the game was as a technical showcase. Maybe one day my titles will get better so people don't get confused at my intent, but until that day all I can do is keep trying to convey myself to the best of my ability and keep building on my style. All I can hope is in the meantime people will know what to expect from my vids. Take care and thanks!
