    Nice to see that I've got my kits fairly well set up, but I need more gauze. As far as what's missing, I'd nominate a headlight. Put lithium batteries in it so you don't have to worry about them leaking. Bad things seem to happen in the dark and you always need more hands than you have.

    Very nicely explained without getting too heavy handed or drawn into long explanations. I was looking to update and restock my trauma kit while making some new ones for family, and this video was very informative. I'm now buying a lot of my gear from your store. Thank you sir.

    Why would it be beneficial to have hemostatic agent in a compression bandage? Packing gauze, yes. But a compression bandage wouldn't likely touch the bleeder, would it?

    • @MountainManMedical
      @MountainManMedical  5 місяців тому

      Yes beneficial! Wound packing is important for controlling Severe Bleeding. A Pressure dressing is added to the wound packing to keep it in place and increase pressure. A pressure dressing can be used on light to moderate bleeding though.

    Brian, thanks to your guidance, I have all of those. I also have a couple of ace bandages. What is your opinion on Coban as opposed to an ace wrap?

    • @MountainManMedical
      @MountainManMedical  3 роки тому

      Hmmm, Good Question. I don't know if I've ever tried to substitute Coban for an Ace wrap. I know that Coban gets dirty quick because its sticky and I've had trouble getting it off in the past because you can lose the end of it after it sticks to itself, so it might need to be cut away.
      There might be a benefit I'm not seeing, but it seems to me that an ace wrap does what coban would do, so I don't feel a particular need to switch things up until I hear a good reason for it.

      @@MountainManMedical allow me to sway you with my basic non-combat knowledge. As far as dirty, the primary purpose of self-sticking wrap would be to get to a hospital or EMS response, so dirt isn't an issue for me. The trauma nurse that taught my stop the bleed course said don't worry about dirt, we have plenty of stuff to clean it with, just get the bleeding stopped.My secondary theory is that you can just kind of wrap and slap Coban, as opposed to have to worry about attaching little hooks on ace wraps. Am I missing something more important, when I'm just trying to save every second I can?

      @@defensivepistolscience1344 Nope! I love your thought process and I have no problems with it.
      And yes I know what you mean about those stupid little Ace Wrap clips. I hate them. That's why our Ace Wraps have hook and loop closures instead of the clips.

    Does or can the hemostatic dressings cause a reaction in some people?? Is this a problem? I know the first item on the table is to stop the bleed, but can this agent cause problems down the road?

      Great question. This is something that there isn't a lot of research on, and there could be other side effects depending on the casualty, but ultimately, saving their life is the priority.

    I noticed you didn't have any non hemostatic gauze, like the typical compressed gauze, I'm just curious if there was a reason for that? Obviously the hemostatic gauze is two in one but it's also very expensive.
    Could you pack a wound initially with one hemostatic gauze then follow it up with non hemostatic compressed gauze?

      That was the Quickclot and Chitogauze products products that he highlighted.

    • @MountainManMedical
      @MountainManMedical  3 роки тому

      Yes! I think that's a reasonable way to approach this. Regular gauze is still very effective at stopping bleeding in junctional wounds, and the hemostatic gauze is just a little bit better.
      So I like to supplement my QuikClot and ChitoGauze with just regular z folded gauze in case I run out of Hemostatics.
